ONAN #1  RANDOM SHUTDOWN FIX!!!
Просмотров 90Год назад
UPDATE I ordered a new switch came in today 9/11/23 put new switch on cranked it up ran about 30 minutes and shut down again give me a 47 code control panel, detected a misfire. I unplugged new switch cranked it back up and it ran fine again, so I am going to just leave switch out since it runs without it? Apparently something to do with wiring from the switch to control panel? Took me years...

    Guys. Mine has been doing this shutting down thing for a long while. 2 years. My camper is a 2018. Generator has 120 hrs on it. So not like it’s old and crusty. It’s very clean and had very little use. So aggravating when needed. it acts like it runs out of gas. I’ve read all the posts. I thought heat was my problem. Vaporizing the gas when it got too hot. It was!!! I took a box fan and plugged it in , zipped tied it to my open generator door while raised. Took the side cover off generator. It ran all day and in the heat. Never shutting down. The way the have the gas line and pump ran is a bad deal. I had changed pump last year. Thought I had crude in my tank. Every time it stopped and I needed it I’d cha he the filter. No! It’s the heat. Try a box fan first. Onan 5500. Many of them are doing it. The dealers are making $1000s and thousands tinkering and guessing. Never getting them fixed. They are over heating. !!!!

    I've had the trans out of my 52 inch version a few times. I made a wooden cradle to balance the tranny and jacked the mower high, it's not really a bad job. K66 tuff torq trans has 2 compartments, hydrostatic side and gear side. Full synthetic oil is the correct way to go, I used 10w50. It's has 2 filters onboard. One for the hydrostatic charge pump and one between gear and hydro case. Stripping the hydro side out of box isn't as daunting as it appears, just watch a few youtube videos to get the idea and take a handful of photos as you strip the unit down. Filters aren't cheap. Sorry to get off track, my k66 has two drain plugs already installed from factory, one for hydro side and one for gear side. They are the two 10mm bolts on the base/pan. But filling in position looks tough.

    I wish these mowers didn't have these stupid expensive, hard to service transaxles. I used to have a mower with a simple mechanical gearbox, and the clutch was just loosening the tension on the belt. Ah the good old days. Have you looked at prices on a replacement transaxle? They are nearly $1000! Ridiculous!

    • @theobserver9131
      @theobserver9131 2 года назад

      The simple mower I'm talking about, was a present from my stepfather when I was about 12 years old! I was a little gearhead and I liked taking everything apart. My stepfather bought me the mower so I could take that apart instead of all of his stuff, lol! Best present ever! I turned that mower into so many different things!

    • @theobserver9131
      @theobserver9131 2 года назад

      At one point, I turned it into a drag racer. Lol! It was a record-breaking machine! The slowest drag racer ever! But it was long! About 12 feet. I had so much fun with that thing.

  • @theobserver9131
    @theobserver9131 2 года назад

    OK, hold on a minute! How did you get that plug out of the top? I tend to be pretty good at these things, but I could not figure out how to get that top plug out. I ended up just punching a hole in it, and pouring oil through that hole. No doubt that's gonna be a problem eventually.

    • @theobserver9131
      @theobserver9131 2 года назад

      I wasn't changing the oil, so I wasn't worried about draining it, I was just trying to top it off. It was making a grinding noise like your power steering in a car or a truck, and it was super jerky, so I figured it might want some oil. It did help somewhat, but I imagine I should probably change the oil and the oil filter.

    I think I have this same mower or one very close. (LGT2654) I didn’t see this video before changing my oil but for anyone that is trying to decide which method to use I dropped the transaxle to do mine and the only hard part I remember was trying to get the belt unstuck when I pulled it into a place it should not have been. If you don’t have a tap and die kit I think I only took out 4 bolts to drop it.

    I hope you realize that there are 2 separate oil reservoirs that need to be drained. If not there will still be some old oil in the case. Not much but I would get out as much as possible. You could remove the breather cap and main cap then use suction to suck out the oil from both, then refill through the main cap. Be careful removing vent cap/ 2 pcs
