"On Stage" Hand Embroidered Western Wear
We are calling this one "On Stage"
This commission is a theater themed Western shirt and skirt. The client wanted a theater theme, but without using the regular symbol of the two masks. They also wanted to include bunnies and plants. So we used subtle symbolism from various productions. Can you guess which ones? We'll give you one hint. If you look closely, you'll see that the roses have been painted red 😁. Another highlight is the ticket trim that borders all around the hand embroidered art. We couldn't find anything out there like it so we had to figure out how to make it from scratch. This ensemble took a grand total of 271 hours to complete.

      I don't want to put too much personal information out here, but let's just say we did have to take out a small loan in order to get it moved. We just don't have that kind of money to spare on a regular basis, and of course we were not expecting to have to move it at all. Not an ideal situation, but definitely cheaper than building a new home in the current economy.

    If you submerge the shell/scales in water or oil they have a much lower chance of shattering or fracturing while you drill or punch their holes. (best option is mineral oil as it holds less oxygen and thus will do less harm to your tools) I know I'm 3 years late here, just a helpful hint for anyone who came here for reference or research in order to make their own craft from shells.

    • @thewiltedtulipcostumes
      @thewiltedtulipcostumes 2 года назад

      The skirt panel with one side folded is approximately 18"W x 24"L. You need to cut four panels for the whole skirt, so you would need about 1.5yds at 45" (folded lengthwise). You could squeeze the skirt out of 1yd of 60" fabric if you fold it widthwise and stack the panels one over the other. Hope this helps!

    Looks fantastic! - A word on working with shells though: I read a terrible story about a sculptor who gave herself heavy metal poisoning through breathing (& maybe accidentally ingesting?) the shell dust from working on a sculpture made of sea shells. Because shellfish are filter feeders they can naturally accumulate heavy metals from the ocean in their shells - presumably it doesn’t affect them, nor anyone that eats them because the metals are dumped into the shell itself. But that means that the shell dust can be extremely toxic, so it’s really important to use the best respirator you can lay your hands on & to wash the shell dust off thoroughly if you’re working with shells like this. This wasn’t a risk that would ever have occurred to me, so just thought I would pass it on.
