Beyond League - The Rise of Riot Games' Universe
The immediate turn off from LoL for me is when I found out I have to grind for other heroes, while Dota / Dota 2 give you entire roster from the start, ACTUAL Free2Play game. I was a Dota 1 player back in the day, then played HoN, Smite, League, and even Mobile Legend. Dota is still my fav due to its complexity.
video itsewlf is high quality but the story line is messed up and seems random. It goes from story of history of Dota vs TFT to just only talking about TFT. then randomly coming back to tft again. I also don't know who the target for this video is. Current TFT or new people. Current tft players a lot of details you added were boring
Thx for your feedback! The video is meant as a reminder. Games evolve over the years and my videos are meant as a reminder from where we started to where we are currently
Wth is with this chatgpt script.

There’s also Autochess (owned by the creators of the original). Valve made the same mistake that Blizzard did with Dota Allstars by not giving respect to the original creators and giving them a good contract. They’d have Dota and Autochess right now, but greed.
TFT has its own face, it's Mortdog. Underlords doesn't have that.
I think that's because how Valve operates with very strict NDA's
SOMEONE FINALLY ACKNOWLEDGED OUR BOY RISING THUNDER!
It's part of the gaming history! Dauntless FTW
@@Beyond_The_Nexus *insert banger crow quote here*
Yup - a great game to be sure. Have close to 210 hours spread between 2 playtroughs - good times. Didn't dig the vampire/demon hunter character tho. Don't think he was in the comic so for me he just sprouted into existence out of nowhere. Didn't know however that the team was involved in so many other things that i have watched and loved (like Castlevania) - that was informative video for me.
Glad you enjoyed the video. What I said in the video was Airship hired Powerhouse Animations to make the cinematic for the video. Powerhouse worked on Castlevania Heman Blood of zeus not Airship
@@Beyond_The_Nexus I got that but i thought that Powerhouse Animations were part of Airship Games which they evidently were not. Oh well - i can't imagine there will be a second Battle Chasers game regardless of who does the animations so that's sad :/ I really do want to and probably others too but doesn't seem like a possibility.
Agreed! Considering Airship Syndicate's current focus on Wayfinder, a Battle Chasers 2 seems unlikely in the near future. However, we can't ignore Joe Madureira's passion for the Battle Chasers universe . Perhaps we will get continuation of the comic book series, or even a Netflix show!
@@Beyond_The_Nexus let's hope :)
alternative title: nuclear bomb vs nuclear bomb vs coughing baby
😂
The fact that we have a video about the evolution of a game that didn't even release yet says a lot great work =)
Well I'm really excited for this game
@@Beyond_The_Nexus we are, I live in Argentina so I don't have money for a decent PC, Guilty Gear barely runs, and I know that Riot is really good on making good games for low specs PCs and free!!. So its the dream for a 3rd class country citizen like me to play a fighting game on release
The video is super awesome. But there is some false information. Mortdog has also confirmed this but set 2 dit zo bad that it was almost the end of tft.
Yes I know! He said that he was given one more chance (set 3) to make it work before sunseting the project. Also Set 2 was the first time when I stopped playing TFT. What I meant when I said the "success of set 2" was the core idea of sets started and evolved with set 2, a proof of concept if you want. We wouldn't had good sets without the bad ones so in that sense even if set 2 was BAD it was also good
Honestly, seeing HOTS is just hilarious to me, because only Dota 2 and League truly push the MOBA genre.
Hots is on this list because it's made by Blizzard and as you know Blizzard is the grandfather of mobas. So I think Hots deserve to be on the list. Plus I like hots and it's my channel and I can make the videos however I want :))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))
@Beyond_The_Nexus yeah dude it's your video no one can tell you what to do I just found it funny. And blizzard did no thing for the moba genre they literally ignored the mode until league became a thing so they started to care.
Yes I'm aware Blizzard messed up big time, and I actually feel bad because I feel like Hots could have been the best of the rest in the moba space after Dota and lol, but Bobby Kotick ...
@@Beyond_The_Nexus Hots feels so mobile legends to me but this is a compliment cuz MLBB is truly the best moba after League and Dotes
yup hots it's the definition of casual and fun
good video, i always found it annoying how other channels keep calling league or any riot related game, a mere copy cat they tend to look down over everything league, valorant, lor and tft offer to their players. i like the idea of this channel.
thank you! I really appreciate that!!!
When league fã made a video.
Well it is a Riot focused channel ...
@@Beyond_The_Nexus its good content, you can do more parts, for others games on list.
Working on something new right now, but I'm curious what other games would you like to see
@@Beyond_The_Nexus Heroes of Newerth its a cool theme, Icefrog and Euls tried to get revenge on Guinsoo and Pendragon for developing lol.
I plan to do a Pendragon video soon, but the next couple of videos are not going to be riot related. The next video is going to be about Battle Chasers
I think you should advertise your channel.
Thank you but this is a passion project for me, and I don't want to advertise it, but if you found this video interesting please feel free to share it with your friends. Thank you for your support!!!
Hey man, this is a nice video and the editing is very clean, but I do wanna ask what your scriptwriting process is? The script comes off robotic, as if it was written by AI. Obvs I don’t wanna assume that it is, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it were.
9:53 you really just said that. no fucking way.

YUP YOU GOT ME GG
Genuinely amazed that this video only has 70 likes - I got half-way through and was floored that you're a newer channel putting out this kind of content! Great quality video and such a good history of everything that's happened up until now! So excited for this game to release (maybe a little selfishly - I am making a keyboard adapter that works on PS4/PS5 so hoping that it's a hit with the 2XKO community!)
Thank you for your support, means a lot. About your adapter you think it will also work on PS3?
@@Beyond_The_Nexus I never thought of supporting it, was there a game you had in mind for it? It's one of the easier consoles to support (vs. the Gamecube which uses that weird port...)
It would be great if I could play SARPBC using a keyboard and mouse. I'm working on a project about the history of Rocket League and need to record some gameplay footage of the original game. Since I'm more comfortable with keyboard and mouse controls, I thought your adapter might be a better solution than using an emulator.
@@Beyond_The_Nexus Ha! Didn't know about this game! Excited for the vid, but unfortunately my adapter doesn't support mouse at all 😭
No problem, I will use a PS3 emulator and call it a day. Anyways you will have to wait some time for this project, the next video is going to be about Battle Chasers Nightwar
Hots is dead bro
It's abandoned but not dead. The players are still keeping the game alive!
I feel like the game that has more familiarity wins out I respect teamfight tactics for being the only other Auto chess that is not pay to win
I totally agree, each time a new set comes out I feel like the game is a mess, and I feel like quitting, but that's because I don't know the new champions pool
I hope the file size isn't too crazy
Why do you think Tekken 7 95GB is not reasonable 🤪🤪🤪
Saw you denied it, but it seems the script is made with the help of a an ai.
Groundhog Day much?
Riot is making a big mistake by not launchingwild rift in India for so long it's gonna cost riot the growth of the game .
that's a shame
... well I clicked on this video hoping to hear about how the race turned out and what made the difference. But I guess it's nice to recap how the competitors arrived at the starting line and then cut out right as the firing gun goes off ._.
you know how the race turned out, Dota2 and Lol are giants and sadly Blizzard left HOTS to die
Do you think Wild Rift is the future of LoL or is it 2xko? or are they the series and movies that will come out after Arcane?
Riot is following a strategic approach, where each project, whether a new game or an old one, Arcane, or even virtual music bands like KDA, leverages the success of previous ventures to create a cohesive and expanding universe.
@@Beyond_The_NexusIf Riot is expanding, could it be as big as Pokémon or Marvel? Could LoL have its own anime? there are many questions But I also want to know if Riot would be interested in the Japanese market.I have heard that even in Japan the character of Ahri is very popular among her community.
Now that's something super interesting I would love an anime set in the riot universe
@@Beyond_The_NexusFor that to work, the IP would have to be successful in Japan. Can 2xko be successful in Japan?
While Japan has incredible animation studios, there's a lot of talent around the world. Powerhouse Animation Studios and Blue Spirit Productions are just a couple of examples of stellar non-Japanese studios. I honestly believe if Riot were to create an anime, they would pick a studio outside Japan.
Do you think 2xko will be a before and after in fighting games?
It's hard to say. Could be judging by the success of Rising Thunder, and also Riot Games tends to release games that are really polished and fun to play. So yes this game could has a lot of potential to be more than a fighting game!
@@Beyond_The_NexusCould it be a hit in Japan too?
Based on Evo Japan yes I think it's safe to say that
@@Beyond_The_NexusI am happy that for the first time, LoL is recognized in Japan, I am an otaku and I would love to see Japanese LoL fans thanks to 2xko, especially Ahri, she has the potential to be the most popular champion in Japan
omegalul hots XDD
Hots is nice
I think there is one thing that you missed that I would love to highlight. Not only will this game be a tag fighter but, it will also be possible (and likely very popular) to play in teams of 2, where one player controls each character.
I know but I couldn't find any footage of 2v2 so I decided to remove that part from the script. I might do an update for this video if I get selected for the Aug playtest. wish me luck!!!
I'll be very harsh and honest, this video was really, really disappointing. - All the footage you used was extremely modern. From the people, to the websites, to the games. - All the stock footage was completely pointless - find relevant footage for your b-role - show the games or early docu dev footage from Riot or smth. It's literally on their channel if you sort by oldest and scroll a bit. - The history is a lot more complicated and the differences between the games is stark. You can't do this topic justice in 10 minutes. - Gbay99 already made an incredible series on the origins of League of Legends that covered everything here in a lot more detail and much better footage. It makes this video less than useless. Instead of rehashing this basic information, you could instead reference that other video series and build on top of it, giving us more information while shedding light on the topic. I don't know what your plan is with this channel but this is not it for me, chief. This felt like a very, very cheap video that was borderline reading an article rather than presenting a well researched and well presented mini documentary. I wish you the best but this was genuinely bad. Do more research. Use more relevant footage. Make sure this is unique and not an already existed and well dived in topic. You are not making a comedy skit on a topic. It's a documentary style video. If someone has already made it, there is no point in putting your spin on it unless you have a lot more nuance and new information to give your audience. Even that one little shot of the Eastern games when you talk about Free to Play doesn't show the free to play games of that era such as Maplestory and other bs games of the time. Instead you show a page of the newest stuff on the market which obviously DID NOT influence League since it came much later. Maybe get some old League players to look at your video before you release it. This requires so much early feedback. Again, good luck. Be better. I'd for you to succeed and make great League videos about stuff surrounding the game and its history. There is a genuine lack of that stuff which is why I was so excited to watch this. This comment was primary to be constructive even if very harsh. Positive notes: The presentation is quite sleek and the voice over was of very good quality. The very passive experience of the video is pleasant 👍🏼
Guess my video was really bad if you felt the need to write so much. I'm glad you watched it and I'm sorry you didn't like it.
A really nice quality video! keep up the great work man!
Thanks for checking out my video! Really glad you liked it!!! If you'd like to share the video, that would be fantastic!
6:59 My, how the times change.
It's amazing to see how things evolve over time!
Great video! Been wondering what's been going on with this game.
Hey, thanks for checking out the video! This August Riot will organize a playtest, so I might make a new video covering this topic soon
Its actually kinda pathetic how riot hasnt had a single original idea, like ever. all their games are carbon copies of dota cs and underlords
By that logic, wouldn't EA Sports games fall under the same category?
@@Beyond_The_Nexus Aren't all EA Sports games dogshit and just bait for younger and dumber audience to buy a copy of last years game over and over? Regarding riot, there's nothing wrong with taking major inspiration from other studios. Riot has mastered "dumbing down" games to make them more accessible for casual players.
😂😂 It's hard for me to say YES to your comment and than justify all the fifa games I bought over the years 😂😂
By this logic, Dota 2 is just a pathetic copy of the original Dota since all they did was take some of the original developers of that mode and create Dota 2 with their Source 2 engine. League took Dota as inspiration, and their game nowadays is so much different from Dota, yet Dota 2 looks more like an upgrade to Dota. So basically Valve did the same, but we only find Valve meat riders crying about that on Reddit. For Underlords, it is clear that the devs who created the mode didn't agree with Valve and went and created their own game. So Valve went and created Underlords just to fail miserably, yet Riot took the inspiration from the mode and made a good game out of it that serves both casuals and the competitive. Basically, TFT was inspired by Auto Chess, not Underlords, and it came two weeks after Underlords. But what can I say, Valve meat riders lack logic when they start pulling shit out of their ass.
League came out in 2009 and Dota 2 came out in 2013. So, even with a more advanced engine and a graphically appealing game, they failed to dominate the genre. Why don't people understand this logic? Making a game accessible for both casual and competitive players is always much harder than just making a game for competitive players. This is why Valve only succeeded with CSGO and dominated it because there is only one game. The funny part is they don't have to care about it. They can just focus on Steam and gain money without creating any game.
I feel like this video ( mostly in the second half) is just a giant glazing to TFT. All the words used sound very good, like you've really written a good script with rich wording, but calling TFT divisions " ladder, ingeniously segmented into tiers" or creating sentences with many other over the top words, make it look like a promotional video, glazing Riot's product to high heavens. The video is still nice, and high quality:>
Well I wouldn't say know if Riot would offer me a job that's for sure :)))))))))))))
LOL is out of the race, it's just china communism party spyware.
:D everything is made in China
Dude who cares about either to be honest. Korean Autochess was and always will be better.
Korean Autochess ???
I loved Underlords so much and I still don't get how TFT was able to "kill" it that easily. It was so easy for new players to get started because it had a very detailed tutorial and a PvE-campagin with over 100 setups (e. g. puzzles). With TFT I fell like you don't even live long enough to even learn anything from your first rounds.
I don't think TFT directly killed Underlords. It feels more like what happened to Artifact - Valve created a game to capitalize on the trends, then seemingly abandoned the project. It's a shame, really, because both Artifact and Underlords were/are good games.
TFT killed Underlords the same way LoL killed Dota. It didn't. Valve just gave up on it and put it on no/minimal maintenance, as they do with games in general (let's see how long the hero shooter one lasts)
For my personal experience the game stopped having players in ranked-mode when TFT got released and from that moment on Valve was still providing updates. When the last big November-update was released the game already lost most of his player base. Funny enpugh some poeple on Reddit now calling out for Valve to revive this gem because TFT needs Riot's Vanguard to run. :D
@munkleson8882 It's a shame really, because Valve used to make good games, I would love to play Portal 3
@toddybeartwitch so what you are saying is it died in 6 days?
good video but the script was clearly made by ChatGPT, which is not a great thing if you can tell
Hate to disappoint by the script was made by me
I like the video, it was interesting to watch the history of the genre. But it also felt like a suck-up to TFT for a long time, until you mentioned DOTA Underlords last update in 2021. So my constructive criticism would be, consider mentioning that earlier in the video, since you've been talking about Underlords before anyways, finish the thoughts on them first. anyways, good work.
Thank you for your feedback! It's true that most of the second half of the video is focusing on TFT, that's because my channel is mostly focusing on Riot Games, I'm also playing a lot more TFT than Underlords, so it was easier for me to script the video this way. It's not like I have anything against Underlords, if Valve would support the game I would like to go back and play it
I think it's interesting that we haven't yet seen much experimentation on the MOBA formula. One day I was playing Spyro 3, and wondered to myself what it would be like, to have control of a character like that in a MOBA lane, killing minions and trading dmg against a similarly controlled character on the enemy side.
I think there ware a lot of experimentation on the moba formula, with games like Gigantic, Paragon and Battleborn just to name a few, but they all failed because one reason or another. As for spyro in a moba game the closest you can get imo is playing hots with deathwing
@@Beyond_The_Nexus when I mentioned Spyro, I meant more as in the idea of a moba, where all players control characters from 3rd person perspective, with an analog stick or wasd, have a jump button, etc. No idea if it would work, or maybe its been already tested. I don't know.
Oh in that case you should try Paragon. You play on a classic moba 3 lane map and you control your campion from a 3rd person perspective, kindda like a moba combined with overwatch
@@Beyond_The_Nexus that sounds something like something I had in mind. Maybe I will, after I finish my current single player game, thx for the tip!
What are you currently playing? I've started Dragon Quest XI
holy shit what a high quality video. keep going and you'll make it big
Thank you! Please spared the word
calling DotA's development turbulent without mentioning how Penddragon essentially fucked over the entire DotA community after he joined Riot and replaced the DotA-Allstars forum with an ad for League of Legends, while simultaneously taking community suggestions on those forums to turn into League of Legends champs tells me everything I need to know about this low quality video 👍
I totally agree the quality of my videos sucks :D . I could make a 10 minutes long video only about Pendragon, and I might do that soon, but for this video I felt like only mentioning Pendragon will be enough, most of the viewers already know what happened with pendragon. The main goal was to celebrate these three MOBAs, not to pick favorites!
@@Beyond_The_Nexus fair enough, sorry if I came off rude, I just really don’t like Pendragon 😂
:)))))))))))))
To be fair, HOTS wasn't really even part of the race. Smite was more "on time" than HOTS. I do enjoy playing HOTS though because it is much simpler. I'm not a league player but I've played it some. I know more about dota than anything else but that game changes pretty drastically sometimes during major patches and it's hard to keep up.
I know there where better picks for the 3 moba but I went with hots because blizzard was an important pillar in crating moba.
@@Beyond_The_Nexus Yeah man. Great video.
Thank you!!!!!
why are you skipping dota2's much better F2P model with no hero unlocks and only cosmetic shop...
Because its a lol focused channel.
Riot Focused :P
Both F2P models seem similar to me. Sure, you might need to grind more in LoL to unlock a few champions, but let's be honest, most players I know only play a few champions anyway. Unlocking 5 champions in LoL is actually pretty easy to do. The same goes for Dota 2. Back when I played, I mainly stuck with Lion and Venomancer.
This channel is giga glazing Riot, which is fine, it's his channel. @beyond_the_nexus They're not played the same. People don't one trick in dota the same way they do in league. Some support players do because they can afford it. they pick first and it's more important to counter pick with offlane (top), mid, and carry (adc). My dota friends has tried league and they can't stand not being able to try champions they just faced. They are at an uneven playingfield when other players have access to champions they don't. It stands to say that dota + is close to being p2w as well.
A good way for Riot to fix this, is to implement a rotation system for the free campions like in hots. Also if you have an Xbox Pass and link your Riot account to that Xbox pass all the champions will be unlocked.
It recieved so much hate, havent played it yet, but I played dungeon keeper from the same deloper and it was actually pretty good
It's not really my kind of game, but my wife really enjoyed it
