to get this shape them the oyster is alive they put a plastic or another piece of the shape they want and it becomes an irritant. then as a immune response the piece gets covered with the essence of pearls to protect itself. not any better than getting a fake pearl. A real pearl will have defects and 100% not as many in one oyster. theyre expensive and going a traditional route of a naturally formed pearl will cost a LOT
