    You can get well over 100 watts on 10 meters easily by the separate internal alc control for 10 meters.

    Regarding the inside top view of the power supply, there are not two transformers. The big one is the power supply transformer, the 2nd one is the power supply filter choke. The jumper in the octal socket on the back apron is removed when using the AM modulator. Those are the pins for the 730 modulator output. Without the modulator, the jumper is needed to complete the circuit for CW operation. The other pins are for modulators with various modulator transformer impedencies, and there is a pin to supply 120 volts to a replies that are activated in transmit mode.

    Thanks for the video, Barry. With the use of panadapters, it's concerning how many signals are "splattering." It was sure enjoyable meeting you on 17 meters today. 73, Bob.

    Your DX60B final PLATE current is way too high!! The LOAD control should be set fully CCW and the PLATE control set within the selected band's label on the PLATE control. Switch to CW, adjust the PLATE control for a maximum dip in plate current. Adjust the LOAD control to increase the plate current to approximately 100ma then rotate the plate control again for a maximum dip in plate current. Alternate between dipping the plate current and increasing the load control until maximum power output of 50 watts is obtained and maximum plate current of 150ma, NOT over 200ma as your video shows. The DX-60B is a 90 watts DC input power transmitter with a typical maximum power output of 50 watts on 80 thru 15 and about 30 watts output on 10 meters into a 50-ohm load with a maximum plate current of 150ma. If you continue tuning your DX-60B to a maximum plate current of over 200ma, the final tube life span will be significantly reduced, and that current level puts excessive stress on the power supply!!

    IMHO, the Collins was the the poor mans Drake...Look at the receiver and transmitter results for the Collins....As an owner of a few Collins S-Lines and KWM2 and KWM2A, radios, they were absolute garbage compared to a stock Drake B-Line or a Drake modified C-Line....

    2:35 This makes no sense what you said. The plug on top is for a key. The plug on bottom is for a key. If I have a paddle, which one do I plug in to use the onboard keyer? The TOP one, I would think, since the bottom one is a mono plug, and only for an external keyer or a straight key? I am SO CONFUSED!!!!

    At 3:24 you said there is an N connector for UHF and a PL-259 for HF but the radio is VHF/UHF ONLY so no HF and that is an SO-239 not a PL-259.

    • @1OFGODSOWN
      @1OFGODSOWN 4 года назад

      You also were wrong about the output power since it does not do 50 watts on either band in any mode.It says VHF FM/CW is 6-45 watts & VHF SSB is 6-35 watts.Output power on UHF is 6-40 watts on FM/CW & 6-30 watts on SSB & it is listed on Page 55 of the owners manual.You said you had owned it since it was New in 1998 but you still did not know much about the radio it appears? I have owned mine now for about a week & know more it also appears.Happy I found your video so I could pass on some Correct information about an AWESOME 2 meter & 440 All mode transceiver.

    waiting for mine to be built.....had a four-band K1 about 4 years ago....sold it to pay taxes....now, you can't get the four-band module anymore.....the Internal ATU is half the cost of the radio, more if you don't put it together......with that said....it has a bitching receiver....excellent filtering, and a few big boy transceiver goodies.....did use my former K1 to finish a contest when my main HF rig went tits up......run it on 40M into a small linear, and got almost 100w out.....it will do 7 to 7 1/2 watts off a power supply @ 14VDC on 40m by itself.....a bit lower on 30/20/15.....ran for days off a gel cell camping....loved the little rig, and now, I'll have another one......contest quality rig....excellent for CW......will receive SSB if you have the wide VFO setting (150-160 kHz, instead of the 70-80 kHz tuning spread)....would love to find a four band module....good rig but pricey....for another 100 bucks, I could have had a new/used portable all-band rig, that didn't need to be built, but I have had one before, and wanted another one.....I'll see how some SOTA activations go this summer with my new K1 and Mountain Bike/Hiking endeavours.....:-)

    "mass-produced"? I wish! Seriously, Bob Dyer still sells these kits for around $155 plus $12 s&h CONUS. They were extant circa middle/late 90s and *still* a magnificent little kit/radio. Recommend the added KC-1 keyer/frequency enunciator ($45) as that makes the rig a truly backpack-able package. For some real fun, turn it down to just below one watt and see who you can work QRPp! So far, with a crappy antenna, I am out to Colorado from SoCal. Also note you have the little birdie around 7,028 kc as well. Enjoy; it's a neat little unit and a piece of modern-day QRP history. 71/72, Bill, k6whp 15m CW, Zuni Loop MEF

    I am picking up one of these tomorrow with a Heathkit a-9b amp. I am not sure if it works yet or not. I actually have been wanting a tube amp or dual mono to create a hifi system. This transmitter is coming with the amp for $15 off of craigslist(I couldn't pass this up). Anyway, with limited internet info, how do I go about cleaning and checking performance with these. Any info would be great. Thanks, Scott
