The Moody Blues - Driftwood (Promotion Video).flv
Promotional video for Moody Blues aired on Netherlands tv. 1978..after 32 years, I still think this song should have gotten higher in the charts than it did.

Why oh why oh why did I not got to see them on their farewell tour in 1973? They were playing the Victoria Hall, Hanley, where I saw loads of bands, I was a big fan of their music and yet I didn't go?!? Cannot for the life of me remember why..it's a big regret...however, the next year I did see Chapman-Whitney Streetwalkers a couple of times- got their autographs on a Family LP at Stafford Top of The World and saw them at Buxton Festival, where it was dull and rainy all weekend, except for a magical moment when the sun emerged as they were playing 'My friend the sun'. Incidentally, where was this live footage shot?

Family was the best live band of its era. Unfortunately, because of the infamous mic stand incident with Bill Graham, they did not make it to the USA.

Strange who makes it through to their 80s....and Roger certainly pushed his body and vocal chords, so hes done well....😅

Always thought Roger Chapman and John Whitney were underated as song writers at the time, like Ian Anderson in Tull they could actually write lyrics that weren't just mindless drivel like the stuff some of their contemporaries were churning out. I only saw Family once, they sounded a lot better than this, I suspect this would have been recorded on something like an 8 track hidden inside someone's coat which was quite common back in the day, that's why the sound is so awful. Family were very much a Bovril band - you either loved or hated them. I was of course one of the former, much preferred them to Genesis who had about the same level of support at the time, but there you go, good or bad music is after all only about personal choice at the end of the day for most people.

I never heard Family until recently, before that all I knew was that Ric Grech and Jon Wetton had played in the band. Chatman’s vocals are unique, but he loses me when his vibrato goes billy-goatish.

Forgive me, Ric Grech, but this was the best Family lineup. Weider and Poli took the band to the next level. And Chapman... well... Chapman is inimitable.

I saw 'Family" in a concert in Torquay in 1970. This changer my life and turned me from a Mod, into growing my hair long and a beard to go with it. Wow.... Where have those 53 years gone ! I am now living on the beach in Thailand, so I can't complain. 😊

Fantastic band with an unusual instrumental lineup. This looks like an extract from their performance at the Isle of Wight Festival in August 1970, one of the many occasions on which I saw them live in the early 1970s. I also saw them live at the Central London Polytechnic (famous for being where Richard Wright, Nick Masón and Roger Waters studied) and got chatting to Roger Chapman after the show. He was a really nice guy and autographed one of his broken tambourines for me. He used to smash them against the mike stand and would get through several in a performance.
