Thank you Neil. I would say that I'm a bit more consistent, so I don't feel like I have to finish the point quickly or I'll lose, like I used to. I also try to block in a way that I don't give the opponent an easy follow up attack, but this is not easy against some players.

It happens to me as well, every time I watch a match, I want to play so badly. There are a couple of players in our league aged 70-72, you can do it!

Thank you, she is a very fast player and has very good serves, it's really hard to keep up with that speed. I have to say that this is the best I've coped with her fast game, but it took a toll from me physically. She has good mental strength, it's not the first time she comes back and wins against me.

Thanks a lot for your feedback, and that's one of the reasons why I record some training sessions. I know that my form is far from optimal, my swings are either short and janky or too long. I guess that it's because the first forehand shot that I tried was that, and it worked at the level of the people I was playing against. I know the proper form and I've tried it in some training sessions at home, but the feeling is completely different to my normal shot and I tend to hit the ball with really bad spin and speed, although the recovery is far better. Over the years, my forehand has evolved and my stroke is more compact and shorter than it used to be (believe me, it was too exagerated), but I doubt that I will be able to change to the textbook technique without getting too behind in my game, and playing 4 different leagues I can't afford that at the moment, since forehand is my best shot and how I usually win games. Having said that, I still work on making that stroke shorter and finishing in at the front, but there are so many things to fix in my game that it's one step at the time. My footwork, my backhand feeling, reading the lines, service receive..., they all need a lot of attention as well, but it's part of the fun, there is always room for improvement. This training session was a bit more focused on my backhand opening, since I don't want to rely on my forehand all the time, and be a bit more of a complete player.

Thank you, Neil. When you see results, you get motivated and try it during matches. I'm not afraid of using my backhand openings and attacks during matches now, I need to polish the feeling, because sometimes the contact is too hard, too soft, too much wrist but not elbow, or too much elbow without wrist. Pips are out of the menu for now, but you never know. If I get to a level where I play always close to the table I might give them a try another year or during the summer again, they have a lot of advantages as well, and you can always twiddle.

Thank you, I felt like Romans missed more shots than what I'm used to see when he plays, but it could had been the timing, placement or length of the balls, or the spin. I think that apart from serve receive (where I missed more than I would like to), I played quite decently.

I stopped using SP at the end of the summer because even when it was great for serve receive and hitting when close, my game is one step behind of the table and SP become less and less effective the further away you are (when it comes to offense). Something clicked a couple of months ago and I'm able to feel the shot when I am doing backhands, before it was a hit and miss but no feedback, now I get many points with my backhand, almost as much as with my forehand. Still a long way to go and need to stay lower for more speed and accuracy, but I'm a bit more all-round player. I'll show you what I can do on the 11th of December 😉

@@Belgamor77 I did say that I felt you could develop more with a normal rubber on your BH, and I can see it’s definitely improving, great to see mate. I’m not sure I can play on the 11th unfortunately, I’ve struggled to play regularly in Trafford this season, hopefully I’ll get more games in after Xmas 👍🏻

@@neilmyatt1980 thanks, to be honest, after watching your videos and backhand improvement, it pushed me to improve. Seeing a fellow forehand loop player getting dangerous with his backhand as well made me want to have more weapons apart from my forehand. @ ah thanks mate, really appreciate this. I’m getting much more keen to play backhands and be more aggressive with it, rather than trying to run around it. I agree it’s a long road, but keep working on the right things and it will come good. I’m also learning there’s so much more to TT than forehands and backhands. Serve, receive, touch, flick etc are equally as important, as are tactics! So much to work on!! Keep working bud 💪🏻

Thank you for your comment, John. Wasiu has improved so much in the last year that he is a different player. He used to be ok at putting the ball back on the table, but without much speed, so it was a battle of consistency, but now he returns the ball faster and if you slow down a bit he will punish you. He has a wide wingspan and quick legs, and his reading of spin is very good, so to go past him I had to do either shots with a lot of spin, very wide angles, or fadeaway shots. I'm usually better against defensive players than offensive ones who stay close to the table, my fast game has to improve and my shots need to be more compact to do that, but I have to admit that it had been a while since I won games against Wasiu.

@Belgamor77 hi Carlos, ive only just picked up your post; your right, he plays the same style but a bit quicker with his differently placed push, tospin but stilll highish returns. That good chinese Bowie girl plastered him to the wall recently with her consistent smashes, that just left him smiling! Although he got his revenge a few days ago cause of her lack of consistency this time. I played with him at St Marys last year and kept telling him he needs to be attacking, he has all the equipment, like Pitchford, but its difficult to retrain your muscles and mind, but he has no option..will he listen?!? And yourself? Have all the shots and approach, just consistency like everyone else. At Hollingwood tonight, just watching. Cheers.

@@JohnCTTcentreUnofficialcoach Wasiu is listening to you, I've seen him playing friendly matches and he is doing topspin with forehand and backhand. I guess that when it comes to matches he doesn't want to use incomplete shots and sticks with his game, but I can see that when the other player gets a bit overwhelmed with Wasiu's consistency and slows down, Wasiu goes forward and attacks. As you say, the pushes and returns are a bit high so attacking players will have an advantage there, but he is also good at reading the direction of the ball, he has long arms and legs and moves quickly. As you say, when he starts combining that with a more offensive style, he'll be a powerhouse, he's doing quite well in the first division already.

Ive seen Wasiu now get beat by two youngsters, Rowan and Max , who both hit him off when invited..... although I think he has since taken revenge on the chinese? girl Bowie. Wasiu will have to change borh his mental approach and also his style and muscle memory habit, which are now very much ingrained. The theory is simple, but not the practice. How many players do you know that have made a transition such as what Wasiu needs to take him to the next level...however he has all the components, only tme will tell.

On the Stiga Cybershape blade, I use Double Fish Phoenix Volant 2 on the forehand, and Donic Baracuda max on the backhand. On the Stuor Arylate Carbon blade, I use Donic Baracuda max on the forehand and Donic Baracuda 1.8 on the backhand. I tend to use the normal blade (round) when I think I need more control or I am not sharp enough for the Cybershape, I find that if you don't hit the right shots with the right angles, the ball tends to fly quite far from the table, and the other blade is more forgiving.
