    Would not want to get shot by that cannonball! Awesome to see the ingenuity of the Kiwi Soldier on that bayonet.

    Damn, that curved one is really cool looking! Gives me machete & kukri vibes. Even more so if it was used strictly as a utility blade.

    Such bs when you think about it, You fight a war of gunpowder and artillery yet you want to punish someone for having a serrated blade. Honestly a normal bayonet had the same effect. Now if you added a Gut hook I'd get the reasoning cause that's screwed.

    It's a nice original 2nd pattern, the reproductions have thinner handles, guard, and blade. Also a gap between the guard and the blade. Still v functional.

    Awesome insightful video! The Tranters were considered to be amongst the best percussion revolves. They were produced in a variety of calibers from small up to 50 and 577 calibers. Did the English ,Canadian or Australian users of the Tranter cap&ball percussion revolvers use Combustible Paper Cartridges like the Americans did in their cap&ball percussion revolvers?

  • @richardbruce8111
    @richardbruce8111 2 года назад

    Tranter was a competitor of ADAMS ,The first Adams was "self cocking" but would only fire with a full trigger pull The Tranter was popular as it cocked the hammer & allowed deliberate touching off with the centre trigger in the guard.. so nice on the target range but with skill loading a cylinder took @ 1..2 minutes. with the round ball the grooved bullet with grease in the channel was desirable if the gun was to be loaded for some time it proved too complex in the heat of a close battle & quickly reverted to true double action (thumb cocking or long pull rising & falling hammer) the "SINGLE ACTION of the Colt ( cylinder turn & hammer ready to touch off ) was more usual in USA as targets were generally at longer distance. There was a grim rumour that frantic pulling of BOTH triggers resulted in a temporary "lock up" with Tranters fatal to the user! remember these guns are 150 + YEARS OLD real antiques! so do not try firing they are too valuable & really good steel was VERY scarce before 1870 and blow ups were fairly common . If you wish to shoot join a black powder club & use modern replica preferably stainless steel they are easy to clean & the actions are safe too. Yes these are a relic of the land wars, Remember the tribes had been absolutely slaughtered (by each other! ) prior to Treaty 1840 (@40000 dead not of @ 120000 population & captured victims were slaves (or worse yum!) disease was also a big problem! Much of todays "education" misses the truly aweful problems of our past! we need several view points without the advantage of metal ,cloth, fruit ,vegetables pigs sheep cows horses suckles wheat writing etc. Tribal life was Truly Hard in ways we cannot know! We are ALL just SO fortunate to live TODAY** YAY

    There were also American-made self-cockers. Savage-North made a Navy caliber gun with a figure-8 trigger that operated in the same manner and Starr produced a self-cocker in both the Navy and Army calibers. The Army caliber Starr was the 3rd most issued northern forces revolver of the American Civil War.

    She might be an 80s replica by the looks, that someone used. I can't remember who made it but they did a v42 also and used to be for sale in American Blade magazine. It was expensive back then and if it was mint would be a valuable blade now.

      @@ethanmcardle3215 not a chance. An original ww2 2nd patt start at like £500 and really good condition ones are well north of £1000. The £70 ones are just cheapy modern replicas with zinc alloy handles not the brass of the originals and the overall quality is really poor. Original 2nd patts are very rare and £70 wouldn't even be an opening bid.

      Mr Darren well I assumed that this random guy on RUclips hasn’t got a box full of original ww2 FBS commando knives so I guessed he probably has modern replicas.
