Perhaps it was a mistake to call the series Indy too... It sounds really more like the very last incarnation of the late F 5000! Was it under SCCA umbrella?

Went to this with my dad when I was 10, good times. Q104 the radio station did a contest to win a spot in the mini moosehead grand prix and my mother won calling in on the phone! it was an RC car race but half the RC cars broke down during the race including hers.

The GTR and the Subaru were so overpowered in that game that winning with either of them isn't all that impressive of a feat. Winning in a Hyundai however, now that's something to take note of.

Impressive that there was juanster and about another 4 or 5 car lengths between me and Compeau and he still got me.

Wow, Richard Petty had an illustrious career in Stock Car/ NASCAR racing, I've followed him for years, I have his Signatured Charlie One Horse Hat, modeled after Mr. Petty, he signed it B4 his museum sent it to me!!! I also have the Cool Ray Polaroid Roadmaster Sunglasses that he wore in the '70's/ early '80s, ten pairs to be exact!!! I'm a diecast car collector too, I have numerous replica racecars that he race over the decades!!! Richard Petty was always my hero, as a person who has homespun philosophy, and life experiences, racecar driver, he will always be the KING, LONG LIVE THE KING, RICHARD PETTY!!! Thanks for sharing! I don't live in Halifax, or anywhere in Canada, but I would be hard-pressed to find better street racing anywhere than on this circuit in the Maritimes. I just wish there was a full telecast of the MASCAR race, though.

How the fuck does Halifax not does this stuff anymore.

I was the Race Director for the Moosehead Grand Prix from Year 1 in 1990 to the last one in 1995 at CFB Shearwater with the IMSA WSC cars. Bill Tempero worked hard to create the AIS and it worked well for us for our very first event! The wide range in the AIS teams was amazing! On one hand, the Unser's arrived with a full-on CART-style 18 wheeler rig and at the other end, a Ford 1/2 ton truck arrived with an Indy car sitting on an open trailer behind it!!! 😳 Roger Ward - multi-time Indy 500 winner was the AIS Chief Steward and I have many great stories from that first event. One story is that for the start of the AIS Race, Roger arrived at Race Control chuckling and shaking his head. When I asked him what was up, he said that he had passed all of the crews headed to Pit Lane and all, except for one team, were loaded down with spares and equipment. It was the team for the car that had qualified in P2 - Oncle Jacques Villeneuve. Roger asked them what was up and they replied that no one on the team figured that he would last longer than 4 laps!! They started their Pace Lap (more on that later!!) and got the Green Flag!! Robbie Unser on the pole and still in P1 at the end of the 1st lap. On the second lap, Oncle Jacques passed him to take the lead! On the third lap, Oncle Jacques pasted it into the wall and was out of the race!!! He didn't make the four laps the team had predicted!!! And the team didn't have to carry all of the heavy equipment and tires back to the paddock from the pit lane!!! Lots of great stories from the Moosehead GP! :)
