Jeff Wayne's The War Of The Worlds! - Retro Game Review
The chances of anything coming from Mars are a million to one he said...
Not sure what he said about the chances of a PS1 game based on a musical version which is based on one of the greatest pieces of Sci Fi literature ever published though, but here we have it, a cheeky review of Jeff Waynes The War Of The Worlds, a vehicular combat game based on the 1978 concept album!

Lies Of P - King Of Puppets Boss

Hardest boss in the game so far for me, that first phase had some moves that just kept on kicking my arse with the timing, and the random jumping around the arena was a paaaaain. Second phase wasn't too bad but he has some jammy attacks and it comes after the first phase. Lies Of P - Mad Clown Puppet Boss
Просмотров 11711 месяцев назад
I'm not keen on clowns at the best of times, this one gave me quite a lot of grief. I wasn't exactly levelled up/prepared to take him on, and his attacks took a bit of time to get used to, plus I got a bit impatient. Not the hardest boss, but some awkward timing to get the guards right. Did I mention I'm not keen on clowns tho? Please don't forget to Like, Comment and Subscribe! :) Check me out...

Tenchu: Stealth Assassins - Games I've Wanted To Play
I did a review of this game some years ago. Felt like I was a lil too positive with the game after hearing other people's opinion on it. I suppose it's because I managed to adapt to the awkwardness of the controls rather quickly. There are obviously quite a few missions that can get you better vehicles, but would have been nice if there was a bonus mission that let you play as the Martians, destroying everything in your path as I feel like that would be a worthy reward for finishing the game. Be nice if one day this game got a remake with improved controls and some better missions to keep it interesting.
I'd love to see it given a remake, if anything because I adore the album so having more out there based around it is a big win in my eyes. But yeah, for some reason I found it really difficult to adapt to the controls, it just never properly clicked with me, which was a shame because I did like a fair amount to do with the game. Also agree, it'd be neat to have one cool mission from the Martian perspective :)
Humans with tanks in a WotW game is pretty odd, given that the Martian war machines were predictions of tanks becoming part of warfare, decades before actual tanks made an appearance. But if they can't set a WotW movie in the correct era then expecting it from a game is maybe too much. I still have the twin-CD version of the musical in my car, since that's the only place I have a CD player now. :)
I haven't played this game but I love the music album. I would love it if someone would make a modern day third person shooter around it, where you're shooting, exploding and bayonetting Martians with WOI equipment in London.
@@Johnny-Thunder Genuinely I think there could be something super special done with the source material as a game. Even an updated version of this with fresh mechanics would be neat!
Great video man. Really interesting to see. You have a point about old controls. These days control systems are so standardised in 3d games that playing older stuff, even with games you played as a kid, is like driving a car with the pedals the wrong way round.
@@_The_Jim thank you so much! You're Def right about standardized controls, it's UI elements too and the auto corrections and adjustments made that help as well. It's very hard to play a game like this cos I guess I personally expected more assistance but obv it isnt there.
I've never seen this game be played. Thank you so much for covering it. Brilliant review.
@@n64lifepodcast Thank you so much! It's Def an interesting title, it might not have fully clicked with me but there was a lot to like with it and you can tell it was made with love!
You could click left or right + the attack button if the enemy is moving to the side. Or crouch+attack for bigger damage. Crouch+X is the quick turn for Tenchu. Up.up+X for double jumps, up,up+square for stabbing, you can get your enemies at a disadvantage with that. I love this game very much, Top 1 really. As well as Metal Gear Solid, specially MGS3 (top 2). The stealth in this ok for me, as I could go back and forth with being stealthy or not, as with MGS. What I'm not ok is the ones on Splinter Cell. Only played one game, so my view on it may be wrong too.
Yo thanks for making these playthroughs
rest video James. Desert strike and its sequels always fascinated me but at the time I just found it too hard. Luckily a friend of mine was good at it and years later 8 got to watch him beat it on an emulator. I like your style of taking the viewer through the game giving a feel of how it would be to play
Thank you so much for the kind words! Yeah the Strike games are bloody tough ones, definitely a method to them but just super simple to pick up and play at least. I'm def gonna have to play the rest of them. Appreciate the words about the style too! Took me a while to find what works but I think I got there :)
Played that non stop
I used to play this game so much.
Adored this game and still remember the elation I had as a kid upon completing mission one. Got the itch to play this game thanks to this video. Never played with From Above controls so think I’m gonna give that a bash. Cracking vid! ❤
Would definitely recommend giving it a go tbh! It definitely made things a touch easier although the game was still super tricky at times :D
How tall is he from the bottom of his feet to the top of his head? In other words, what's his height without the rubble and base (so just the figure itself)?
I spent so much time with this game. Another one that we rented so many times that we might as well have bought it several times lol! Thanks, this was the first result that was related to what I was trying to find!
❤❤Amazing Retro 👌🥂🔥♥️
Great video, love the background info before the game to give context.
My Dad picked out a copy of Snatcher at a tiny second-hand electronics store when I was 14 ( ~1998). We played the game for months, figuring out secrets etc, which became some of my fondest *memories growing up. The game really shaped how I viewed the world, but I was always perplexed why no one seemed to know of it, ha. It's obviously dated by today's standards, but I agree a re-release would probably still be well received. Enjoyed the video 👍.
Thank you so much! And thank you for sharing your story too! I love hearing about people finding gems like that. It is such a good game, I'd so love to see a re-release.
Great video. Very informative. I like how the second half is a bit like a "lets play" covering you experience of playing a game
@@_The_Jim Thank you so much :) Glad you enjoyed it! Definitely enjoyed talking about the game and playing it, was a proper gem for a system which I think has a super bad rep
Nice collection! 🎮 😯
I was there back in the day. The magazine's sold me on the game massively so I asked for it for months. However I couldn't get past those damn foxes so I'm glad you had the same issues. I probably ended up trading this game for a pittance, I wish I'd kept it.
Haha they're so brutal tbh! Great to control but hard to fight against
Cracking video, man. You really gave a feel what it was like to play. I suppose the big reason it went so successful was due to the physical nature of games. These days we can download quirky indie games for about 15 to 25 pounds. Back in those days it was all physical and and you had to pay for the cartridge, so something like this would be the same price as a major AAA release. Therefore only a few people with money to burn would take a risk on something they didn't immediately understand
Thank you so much! Really glad you enjoyed the video :) I never actually considered that side of it, you are right nowadays the more experimental games tend to fall into that indie/AA category that are priced a bit cheaper away from the AAA experiences. From what I know N64 stuff was more expensive back then too, so people did have to be more careful.
I still have this game on ps1. I remember discovering it for the first time on a ps1 demo disc in the 90’s. Really cool game.
I found the shinji Ikari rising project at my local library when I was younger and I opened it up to see what it’s about and I found full on boobs.😭
Thanks for the review. Super informative! I take some issues with the Polymega, a laundry list ultimately and $550 for the base unit takes it beyond being an enthusiast vs casual discussion for me in my opinion. I'm an enthusiast and the product isn't anywhere good enough for what they're asking. There are other solutions that ultimately play the games it does better and/or cheaper. It's a casual extremely flawed product wrapped in a non-casual price tag surrounded with bad customer service.
I had just finished this model, and was wondering if you knew what those extra pieces were? Mainly 25, 116 and 117 i believe? And that clear stand i couldnt quite figure out even with a translator. Thanks in advance! I know this is an older video, but if you see this i would be grateful!
@@hopehedgehog2267 hey, thanks for the comment. Honestly, I don't have the spare parts/instructions for this anymore so I couldn't say. Sometimes these kits do come with extra parts and such for affixing to additional all purpose items you can get for model kits though.
@JLSoryu thank you! I just keep the extra parts in the box it came in. Strange there wasn't much on the instructions about it though. But i guess I'll just keep them around until something comes up i guess! XD thank you for replying 🙇
I have this one but lost the instructions if you still have them, I am on a search :(!!!
@@earthsfur oh yes! I still have my instructions hah, luckily i still keep them. if you give me an email or something i can send you pictures of it.
@@hopehedgehog2267 TYSM!!! I've been searching the ends of the internet for the instructions, so I can finally work on it. G!!!mail works for me. Doritoalpaca is the user (youtube censors the email rip).
Great unboxing, thank you for sharing!
Wow, there us a really high density if mean/nasty comments here. I was just looking for something to listen to as I go for a run and want to learn more about Polymega because I was considering buying one of their 6 button PCE controllers. Great video.
Is there a regular Kiryu model kit? Also what about a repaint based on EVA unit 2?
There is a Unit 02 variation. :) And there are regular model kits around.
I really enjoyed that. It looks like a good game. Im rubbish at anything strategic so i enjoyed seeing what you could do with it
Thank you so much! Honestly I tend to be pretty terrible at anything requiring too much strategy. I try playing stuff like Civ and it falls apart very quickly. With this it's fairly user friendly, because it feels like you don't get punished too harshly for failing. It's definitely a game I'd recommend to anyone.
Polygarbage
You should try the fan games out. I made Bane of Oakenshade and currently slowly working on a short sequel. There's heaps of KF games to dive into.
I'll have a look at that and check it out :) I saw there is another title on stream which is inspired by Kings Field which looks good too. Def keen to see what is out there :)
Love it! Looks great! I was thinking I might not plug in the saucer impulse engines because they are never lit up when the Enterprise isn’t separated. You know what, I just had a thought, if the LEDs are clear I might use them to boost some of the brightness of the more dimly lit windows. I found yesterday that whacking them up against the bottom of the panels, with a bit of PVC tape, they do give a boost of light to the saucer lights, as they are far from uniform. Great vid though! What a journey!
I have the main three soundtrack cds special edition with the extra booklets and slipcase, im no completionist so i don't care much about the other cds but they come cheap even the special editions if you know were to look for
Thanks for this. 🙂 I can definitely see how this grew into their future games. Great to discover where this all started.
Avoid this product. My base console was faulty straight out of the box…infinite boot loop upon first start up. After weeks, Playmaji responded to my emails with a shipping label to perform a repair, but this “solution”was no longer acceptable to me. (Send me a new unit and I’ll mail the faulty one back…you didn’t have a problem receiving my payment, did you?) Since requesting a refund for the faulty console (within 30 days of arrival) I have heard nothing from the company. Playmaji: please honor the return policy you list on your website. If the product worked out of the box, I wouldn’t have to complain on RUclips channels. With customer service so seemingly low, their warranty and refund policies are worthless and not to be relied upon.
I've seen some footage of King's Field 4 and to be honest other than graphics it still has the same gameplay by the look of it. Loved the video as well mate, well done.
Thank you so much! Really enjoyed making this one. And aye, doesn't seem like they changed too much, just improved and refined.
Nice one dude. I'd be interested to see how you get on later in the game
I'll Def be continuing it, likely be posting updates on twitter or depending on how it goes, doing a follow up vid. :)
I grew up on King’s Field and I’ve loved the first two American releases. I’ve also love Demons Souls and Dark Souls. I just recently realized that From Software made both series. I plan the play the Japanese King’s Field very soon since the first game wasn’t release in America.
I'm excited to go back and finish it. Had a lot of fun learning how to play this and seeing where they started. Really really want to play the other ones too!
@@JLSoryu The PS1 games get better with each entry. I did not like the PS2 games.
You spent $500 on poop lol
where can i get one i really want to put my older systems up
You can get them from Playmaji directly, Polymega.com :)
Has anyone tried connecting an external hard drive to the console instead of using the internal option? I’m surprised that they didn’t put a 3rd USB Port in the back of the console. It would be nice if it played Sega Dreamcast games too.
I've not heard of anyone using an external HDD but I do agree with you it'd be nice to have another USB port on there! I really do hope Dreamcast comes to it one day!
Another transformative review
im not too convinced by the emulation tbh its very VERY pixelated and the n64 emulation is the worst i have seen its just an upscaled 240p signal and it looks like your watching through a screen door, i really hope they can make the games look a little better via updates, plus theres issues mine makes a strange audio noise from time to time and it randomly crashes or restarts, the theres the build quality which is questionable, its not worth £400 plus imo thats ps5 territory, i do however like the UI and the fact that its trying to be an "all in one"
Im old, and have never understood the appeal of the whole Nintendo thing, we grew up on how realistic the graphics looked, to me Mario bros etc cartoonish aspect of the aesthetics of Nintendo... just couldn't get into, I liked megadrive though and ps1, but each to their own, great video.
Wish it wasn't just an emulation box, but i do like the design, the pads are nice too and can be used on original hardware, along with the nice Emulation Station/Launchbox like UI and the fact that you can back up your games. It's what the Retron5 should have been. But in this day and age, i would prefer something like an FPGA clone or original hardware or a cheaper emulation product. A product like this doesn't really set it self apart. Better options like og hardware with a scaler, like the RetroTinks or the OSSC, the Raspberry Pi or a PC, Analogue, Retroid, Evercade, Miyo Mini, the many Anbernic products, Mister FPGA or even the Switch OLED could be had for less.
im a purist I guess. if im going to play retro games, might as well go all they. I prefer original hardware with a crt whenever possible or just use an emulator if I can't. this isnt for me. Kinda seems like a weird compromise, especially for the money.
Pre or post trans?
just another company that doesn't have the b**ls to put on a simple cartridge version of the edition of kirby where he get his gf pregant...i am so sick of how many youtubers won't talk about this! like oh ok it didn't even happen? lmao...nice try
Polymega is garbage
I speak for myself obviously as this is my personal account, but thanks for the video. I think you will see a constant and consistent improvement in our CS and social engagement. I'm really glad you are enjoying your Polymega.
Thanks so much for the kind words! Things definitely seem to be improving and the system is wonderful. Expect many more videos from it :)
Thanks for the video. The system looks great and plays great. Appreciate the heads up about the negatives.
