I'd recommend making the short walk to the Winthrop Street bridge for an even better shot. It's higher from the tracks than even the College Avenue bridge, and you can see the train coming all the way from West Medford and as it trails off around the bend towards Medford/Tufts.

Looks like a 7700 or 7800 we had in Buffalo at the nfta started in 1981 it came with a blower mounted on the engine and air ride suspension as well as a road speed governor for the transmission.

Those horns also bring back memories of the North Shore Line and the later cars of the Chicago Aurora and Elgin.

This train isn't enroute to Washington as this is a Keystone Service. The Keystone Service runs from Harrisburg (Southbound/Westbound Terminal) and New York (Northbound/Eastbound Terminal)

Was this bus being scrapped? just looking at the gun shots on the windsheilds of this and the rough shape of the other buses. Those double arm wipers are very rare. I drove a 63 GM like this and if the transmission linkages aren't in top shape, it's a bastard to shift.

That's a Detroit 6V-71 engine. I always preferred the Detroit 8V-71 over the smaller less powerful 6 cylinder. It's just good to see that it's still around.

In Jersey we had a TON of these Stick GM buses. ALL used for NYC runs but some were even used intra-state. Just about every New Jersey bus line had Stick GM's.

Counterpoint. Seattle/King County metro here in the Seattle area kept a fleet of 1954 busses going until the early 1980's because they had hydramatic auto transmissions that had 4 speeds and worked reasonably well. What was wrong with the operators of this bus that they saw fit to buy a manual transmission. I wouldn't want to drive a city bus this way and I don't think it can be done today

This is the sound leaving the Port Authority Bus Terminal in New York City on the NJ bound buses back in the day… When that bus would leave that glass partitioned loading platform and exit the buildings down the ramp! And you see the view of the bustling city below from the third floor level…To me that was bus heaven!
