Sleep, Walk & Stuff
Добавлен 30 авг 2021
I sleep, I walk, I do other stuff while staying in London every week.
I work in London but I live in South Wales. Every week I spend a night in London. I stay in hotel in different parts of the city. These videos show those hotel rooms. I'll share my walking commute from work to the hotel and anything interesting I stumble upon along the way. I'll also 'review' the hotel I'm staying in and, time willing, have a little explore.

Staying in... Fox Connaught near Excel, #London. Room inspired by charity shops & dead folk. Maybe.
Not a great stay this time! Firstly, it was my mistake to book a place without realising it was a pub even though it sounds every bit like a pub. Yep, that's on me.
As soon as you crossed from the #pub into where the rooms were it went downhill. I mention a few times in the #video that it reminded me of a charity shop in both the look, feel, decor and smell. It really did feel like everything belonged to dead people. You know that feeling when you step into a house and feel that someone died there. Yeah, that. Maybe I've looked at too many houses but I have felt that a lot.
Away from that the bed was uncomfortable and when it rains it gets noisy dripping outside the window. Bathroom was we...

Staying in... the New Linden #hotel in Bayswater, home of the NOISIEST floorboards in #london
Просмотров 8618 месяцев назад
Yep. These floorboards were no joke. They were nosy in my room, noisy n the corridor and noisy above and below me. A cacophony of annoying noise. This stay at the New Linen was £75 (half price offer believe it or not) and took place on a Wednesday night. Yeah... I won't be staying here again. Not worth the price but even if they halved the price again the creaky floorboards make it an impossibl...

Picking up where we left off in the last 'walk...' video. Again, partly an experiment but this time a more successful one! We start by the Oxo Tower and pass by the Tate Modern, Shakespeare Globe Theatre, go under London Bridge, see HMS Belfast, City Hall, cross Tower Bridge and finish up at the Tower of London. #subscribe #london #walk #tourism #tour #shakespeare #walking #southbank #tate #bri...
Walk... Victoria Embankment and the Southbank, London
Просмотров 3339 месяцев назад
Full disclosure, this is technical test of a new piece of equipment that I bought. Spoiler, it did not go to plan, however, we have around 40 minutes of a #walk that you may find of interest. Walked down Victoria #Embankment towards #Westminster, crossed Westminster Bridge and back down the #Southbank passing the #London Eye, BFI, Southbank Centre.
Staying in... Nox Hotel Hyde Park
Просмотров 2 тыс.9 месяцев назад
Another stay in a Nox Hotel, this time at the Hyde Park branch. Located on Queensway there are plenty of food options around especially if you are prepared to walk a little. Fast food is close but walk 5-10 minutes in most directions and better options present itself. There are tube stations on the road and a lovely stroll around Hyde Park is literally at the bottom of road. Getting to play Ark...
Staying in... Travelodge Kew Bridge
Просмотров 6609 месяцев назад
Lessons learned this video. 1) Check the journey before you leave work. 2) Kew Gardens is not the same place as Kew Bridge! Sigh. A longer than planned walk to the hotel after getting off at the wrong underground station but we saw a little bit of Kew albeit not as much (Gardens were in opposite direction) as I would have liked and it was dark. Travelodge Kew Bridge charged £55 and I stayed on ...
Staying in... the Cherry Rooms, Mile End, London

Even though the booking was a mistake and there were issues when I got there, the experience wasn't as bad as it should have been. It was £60 for the night. Still waiting for my partial refund to come through though! It was #valentinesday too! Why not #subscribe and make a dude #happy #break #hotel #room #pub #firealarm #london #stay #cherry #budget
Staying at... Clawford Lakes in Devon. A nice blue/green cabin on a lake.
Просмотров 2,5 тыс.10 месяцев назад
A break from the hotels this time as a personal celebration takes us to the Clawford Lakes that are located in Devon, UK. Accompanied by my wife and my dog Meg, we spend some lazy time around the lake and suck at Scrabble. I take you for a walk around the site so you can see the various cabins and cocoons here as well as showing you what £220 a night gets you in a lakeside cabin. I was sure the...
Staying in... Urbanloft in Cologne. Also attending Gamescom 2023.
Просмотров 438Год назад
Another work trip to Germany, this time I'm in Cologne for the Gamescom expo, as such, I did not book the hotel so I'm unsure of the price but fair to say the Urbanloft is a pleasant stay but in an area that is possibly not the best. I also give you a little tour around Gamescom if interested. It's a massive event so can't show everything but you should get a flavour. After all, these vids are ...
Staying in... (spoiler:) the very accurately named Good Hotel in Docklands, London
Просмотров 754Год назад
A really enjoyable stay at the Good Hotel in Docklands, London. One of the nicest hotels I've stayed in since doing these videos. Such a nice vibe and being able to simply lie in bed and watch the water was incredibly relaxing. £72 for a stay on a Monday night. One of the few hotels s far that earned a future booking. #hotel #stay #tourism #tour #room #london #break #budget #roomtour #travel
Staying in... The 29 Hotel in Pimlico / Victoria, London
Просмотров 806Год назад
This week we stay in Pimlico for the first time. Truth told, it's pretty much Victoria as it's only a 5 minute walk from the coach station and 10 minutes from the train station. It was £75 for the evening which, after the fact, was a bit much. Not a place I would want to revisit for a few reasons. #hotel #stay #tourism #tour #room #london #break #budget #roomtour #travel
Staying in... Travelodge Windsor Central. Also attended a PlayStation event & explored Windsor a bit
Просмотров 900Год назад
Another work event takes me to Windsor. I'm in town for a PlayStation event (which I talk about a little) and am staying in the local Travelodge. We are looking at around £150 a night for the SUPER room. Seems a bit on the pricy side but it was booked very late. Also wandered around Windsor, taking in the castle and realising that I don't remember Windsor as well as I thought (I used to work in...

Visiting pals in Derry at Halloween, a drive to Donegal & in Liverpool for the Everton stadium tour!
I stayed in this hotel before and it isn't the grandest hotel. I did not enjoy my experience here. In fact I encountered 7 problems when I stayed here.
Heyy thanks for this! We'll be staying here soon, can't wait!
Nice
thank you for the video. I stayed in the exact same lodge last week. I found it perfect for one person. Yes the sofa was hard and the plates were heavier than usual but overall I had a great time. Fishing was good too
Venture outside of London....???
Slowly working my way through your videos and enjoying them all. I stayed in this PI a few years ago for 5 nights. There were net curtains on the windows - between the inner and outer glass. For 5 nights I tried to pull back the net curtain to look out and just banged my fingers on the inner window. I suppose it saves on laundry.
Hard bed is good for the body.
Out of all the budget hotels you have done ... what area and hotel will you recommend for a family of 5 in December?
Hi there. Thanks for your question. This is a tough one because I torture myself sometimes with the truly budget ones and I'd hate to do that to you/the kids. If you book early enough the safest option is a Travelodge, maybe the one in Ealing. It often shows up for less than £70 a night. My personal fave is the Church Street Hotel with the caveat that it's a bit of a walk to a tube station and it's shared bathrooms. Stayed there 4 or 5 times now.
10 out of 10 for staying here and showing us thow dude and your very brave as well cause it looks scarry to me id be worried to sleep there.thank you for showing us thow.
Great vlog, really enjoyed.
I love your videos and have stayed in some of the hotels you visit. This video is special because you just took an image of my study! Moved in in March this year. Wish I could have invited you over for a beer. You have become a minor celebrity in my household!
Oh, wow. That must have been quite the surprise. Although it was a while ago now and my brain is starting to merge some stays, I have fond memories of that hotel. I think there was a pizza place down the road that I really liked.
Ive reviewed this hotel as well! It was just OK but strange booker-in! haha
Why do you torture yourself like this 🤔
If I knew what lay ahead I would not have! Hotels often look so different in photos...
Mate I listened very carefully to your video , I personally think you need to take a good look at yourself and your video and think " hmm do I complain about everything!" , c'mon plates too heavy! Too many bugs! Gravel path too loud under foot , really! I found this attitude to a " romantic " break away really disturbing, here's my advise.... take a chill pill 😉
I'd have to watch the vid again but I doubt I complained about "everything" but who knows, maybe I did. What I will say against the examples you made: the plates were legit heavy and I think a young kid or a particularly weak (for whatever reason) adult may struggle, the level of bugs I think are worth pointing out as it was October and not especially warm, if I complained about the gravel being noisy it was more to apologise for any noise rather than gravel being gravel. But, hey, my vids are not for everyone if they were I'd have more subscribers. I appreciate you watching though and offering your feedback. Take care.
Do you recommend the hotel? Seems like a very good price for London
You know what you are getting with a Travelodge. It's not close to the centre so you will need to jump on the underground for 40 minutes or so. If you are okay with that, the price is reasonable in comparison.
Useful video! Thank you 👍👍👍
Glad it was helpful!
No lift..wot if u have heavy luggage
Booking there. 2 nights without a microwave I can handle
A microwave is very much a luxury for me.
Stupid place for reception
Of the two evils, I would choose opera over techno any day, but not in the bloody morning!
Tough call but I agree with you.
Not sure if John Dalton stayed at the hotel 🏨
So very sorry for your loss Meg was a beautiful dog. Thanks for a true review of Clawford floating cabins etc am booking later this year and I now know cabin 2 is in the best position for my fishing exploits and what to expect Bless you and take care
Hi there, I’m wondering if it is easy to go to the airport from the hotel or going to central Paris?
I never used the airport so I don't recall for sure but it was close to a underground service and was fairly easy to navigate. I walked to Eiffel Tower / Notre Dame in maybe 40 minutes. Again, tube close by that would speed things up.
So many stairs! Inconvenient
In the late 90s I stayed at the Oxford Hotel in Earl’s Court.
Hello. How far is this from ovo arena???
Very close. Maybe a 10 minute walk.
Have you visited the Ravna Gora in Holland Park?
I have actually. It's one of the longer vids because I also went to a speakeasy and shared the experience. Can find it here: ruclips.net/video/QuJTHn6ADIA/видео.htmlsi=KcuD_LuI-aOcPrPD
Is it possible you have stayed at Lords Hotel? It is right around the corner beside Leinster Square, which might be why New Linden felt so familiar. I happen to have stayed at both, Lords is very basic but better value for money in my opinion and cheaper.
I know the hotel you mean but I've not stayed at Lords. I've seen it come up when I'm choosing my hotels though so I'm sure a stay is in my future! Appreciate the tip though, I'll pay it more attention next time.
That room left me feelong depressed and i didn't even sleep in it! London is full of overpriced mediocre hotels. The noisy floorboards were inexcusable. Obviously a cheap cowboy job. Then there was the noisy fan in the bathroom and the flat pillows. That room was definitely not worth £150 a night or £75 either. Thanks for exposing this.
Floorboards were a joke. I don't mind the noisy bathroom fan because it's temporary and I would prefer that the bathroom has one! Was pricey especially because of the issues. Won't stay again.
150 squid the regular price for that room? That's just wrong. I don't know about the Asian inspired decorations but I recognise that bathroom from somewhere!
Those decorations were weird. Straight from a horror film for me. The pricing on this hotel was completely out of whack but that's London I guess. Especially this part of London.
£75 is well overpriced!
It really was. I think my disappoint showed!
The view of the street from your room was nice but I think the floor boards would've definitely been a deciding factor for me. Thanks for sharing.
It's always nice when you have a view straight down a street. I will have nightmares about those floorboard. They will always be the benchmark to how bad floorboards can be. Thanks for watching!
Great vlog, think the floor boards would drive me mad, looking at staying in Bayswater again, or Notting hill.
I think they did drive me a little mad. When that was all I could hear in the early hours I had to stop myself from shouting out!
I enjoyed walking along with you, I did almost the exact same route ( but not through the Galeria) a couple of years ago when I went to see Abba Voyage. After crossing Tower Bridge we carried on eastwards to our hotel in Limehouse before jumping on the DLR for the final stretch. A walk of about 4 miles - unfortunately I couldn't do it now as I have a heart condition. Also, crazy to think this was only a part of The Queue to see the late Queen lying in state. I look forward to watching your further adventures.
Thank you for walking with me!
WITH commentary! Good vid!
Thanks for the comment and the feedback. It did feel strange not to talk tbh. I'll take the pro commentary opinion on board. Thank you so much for watching.
Didn’t realise you started posting again missed the vids
Yeah, life happened for a while there. Should be a bit more regular now.
Never walked that part, looks lovely, thanks for the vlog.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching!
Love your content, gives me ideas where to stay or where to avoid.
Love this comment, Paula! The exact reason I continue to make the videos! Thank you so much for watching!
Sorry to hear about your dog bro. Clawford is great. Disappointed to hear about the cobwebs but being on a lake the pods will need more regular maintenance and cleaning. What I have found that sets Clawford apart is the peace and the fishing is brilliant (if you’re a angler that alone makes the stay x100 better)- it’s still a relatively new resort so I’m sure they’ll act on feedback. Also there is a food van that comes from the local farm and the food they sell is amazing!
Thanks, man. Overall, I really liked the stay. Hopefully that came across in the video. Like you say, you are on a lake, there be spiders. Luckily we only saw what the spiders did rather than the spiders themselves. Did not see the van which is a shame. Would have liked too have picked up some fresh bread and the like. Appreciate you watching the video.
Thank you
Good intro and I get it! :( I do hotel walkthrough reviews but yours are better than mine !
Nah. I appreciate that you don't need to talk over them. I often feel like I'm talking nonsense! Not sure about all those Arsenal vids though :) Thanks for the watch!
i am planning to stay in March too
how is the hotel Sir is it nice to stay and near the underground train from London Heathrow?
Hotel is a good one. Trains from Heathrow frequent and fairly quick. From there easy to jump on tube to hotel.
are there any nice places to see there.....is it near undergroundstation from London City and from Airport Heathrow? I am planning to stay next month in March
Hi there, yep, was a nice hotel. Plenty pf places to eat in the area. Nice walk around Hyde Park on a nice day too. Close to the tube so you can get to where you need to be fairly easily.
hello am planning to stay in this hotel how was it? is it worth it to stay in the area or ?
My last name is actually Mercure!!!
I feel like this is the video where you took the relationship with the viewer to the next level lol Nice one mate.
A lot of fun seeing the EGX expo. Very true what you said about the Amiga being the game changer. Most who are old enough and were into gaming enough had that experience, although the slightly older crowd always seemed to hang on to the Atari ST as their game changing model.
Still enjoying these videos. Hope you are having a good one!
Give Les Miserables a miss. I spent the longest 4 hours of my life watching it in central London. The problem was that it was a free ticket from friends of my neighbour and they were sitting next to me. So I was stuck. I don't know how many times I fell asleep that evening but it was mind numbingly boring. I'd even rather sit through Titanic and I hate that long winded film with a passion. Anyway I thought I'd pretend this was Christmas in London a few days ago rather than two years ago, so it was was fun - even if I got a bit of a sense that you were being just a little bah humbug!
