1998 Ford Expedition air ride delete/ coil spring conversion
Просмотров 24 тыс.3 года назад
This episode I’m removing the air ride suspension on my 1998 Ford Expedition and installing coil springs in the rear and standard shocks in the front
Head dude I've got a question . I'll put pictures up but I've got 4x4 98 ExpeditionEddieBauer 5.4 I'm down here looking and I don't think I've got the air suspension bought these Duralast Twintube for the front not seeing the switch for air suspension or anything like ya got So if I get under there just wanna know if there's anything special I gotta do or just hit the bolts top to bottom slip her out and put the new ones in with the old coilovers?
this must be a 2 wheel drive because the front shocks have a coil also around the shock
What?? You can see the axle and the axle boot and torsion bars so this is a 4x4. There were no coils around the stock shocks but there was in the new ones he installed because he is doing an air bag delete video.
Your State Sucks! Look At All The Rust Caused By SALT!
junk ass ford this should never be an issue on a truck or van pure shit!!!
That poor truck is rusted to shit! 😢 great video tho! Great job!
Does welding inside the thread bore distort the threads in the aluminum head at all? Or is that just a necessary problem that needs to be remedied after the damage is done?
Why can’t you leave the font air ride shocks?
Great video. Were you able to get the driver's side off without lifting up the engine?
I got an 01 expedition it's not getting gas I change the fuel pump and fuses still nothing can you point me in the right direction
Have you checked the fuel inertia switch?
Mine it's N Eddie bower but doesn't have the air ride in the front... Is that normal its also a 4wd
Yup, the front air bags was not standard on all 4x4 depending on year. Mine is a 2000 EB 4x4 and has airbags all the way around.
What lift kit does it have 🤔
The muffler shop told me $1300 so now I’m researching how to’s 😅. Great job!
great info .I'm going to convert my Navagator with rear springs.I see some kits come with front shocks with coil spring on them to make up for removing front air shock.I see you just used standard front shocks.Does it seem to work okay with standard shocks .
Would this cause the abs and suspension lights to turn on?
yes
How did you get the bottom ones
Hey thanks, details were on point ,
That rest looks terrible I'm glad mine doesn't have any rest on it at all 😂
Bro you just did way too much I converted mine from air Bags to coil springs and I didn’t do everything that you did you’re making it look like a tweaker trying to steal some mufflers, That thing has so much rust is that even roadworthy what’s holding it together glue and duct tape
Wow, bro. Your sentences and punctuation looks like a tweaker’s.
Man your a fcn beast haha
good job good camera skills 😎
Never buy a used expedition with air suspension. Big money to repair. Buy one without it.
Not really that big money if you can do it your self.
Dude, are you kidding me? Thank God I live on the west coast. Couldn't imagine having to deal with that rust. We complain about doing the jobs with no rust!
Ford parts ..or aftermarket?
I found the whole kit for my 98 Expedition on Rock Auto site
I'm going to be doing mine. My air ride keeps sounding and that's aggravation to here. So I'm doing springs and shocks. This will help me out thanks. Oh by the way. Mine is a 99 expedition xlt Eddie type. What sate are you in. I'm in Boise, Idaho
ty for filming that that was awesome creative gj
Good god that is rusted!!! Nice job
Dude the rust on that thing is it even safe for the road?
Can you list the rear shocks and springs? I want to get someone to do this for me.
I found the whole kit for my 1998 expedition, on Rock Auto site.
I just got a 2000 4x4 expedition with tow package. I replaced 4 shocks and noticed truck has a separate coil spring for each rear tire. No air bag. I'm guessing it was already converted but then why is there also gas shocks?
More than likely that was how it came from the factory. I have a 97 with same set up. The springs give it height. The shocks only absorb the compression of the springs when hitting bumps. Shocks do not hold the body up imho.
Pretty good man! Thinking of tackling this in my dads 02 expedition
I am doing my navigator but why you install only normal shock at front mine is a shock with coil in one unit
How does it ride without the air shock? My truck floats too much with Ranchos so the helper style is going in now.
Great job. I was wondering how you were going to extract the studs that broke off under the surface of the head. Apparently the solution is to pile on the weld and annoying it enough so it comes out :D Now I feel a bit better about doing it to my 97 5.4
What state are you in?
Keep coming back to your videos and think you deserve a like and subscribe. Bad ass brother
I live in ahoskie nc who do this kind of work here?or-the closest place.
Dude. Fuckin EXCELLENT job, this is the best video on how to do this that I've seen. Thank you.
My 98 Expedition started going flat in the back and I was getting ready to replace the air coils with springs. Then one day I went to Lowes and bought about 200 lbs of stepping stones, loaded in the back of the vehicle. Left it over night and expected to find the suspension all the way down in the morning. To my surprise, it hadn’t lost any air and was fully up. With this in mind, I jacked the rear up and put on jack stands so the air bags would fully open. I then cleaned the cylinders and sprayed silicone lube on them. Suspension hasn’t leaked for over a week now. My Expedition might be an exception as it only has 90000 miles and the cylinders don’t look deteriorated at all.
CAN I HIRE YOU, WHAT STATE ARE YOU IN?
Just replaced My Air bags with springs what I need to know is do the fuses need to be put back in for any reason
Im actually in the middle of swapping my air bags to coil springs. Did you ever find the answer for the question about needing to leave fuses or relay in place after you installed the coil springs..??? I'm also wondering what all i can remove once i have coil spring completed. Thanks man.
How many inches are the coil springs you have cause I have a 1997 expedition my coil springs are 3inches drop
Thanks for your video, I have the same vehicle & Have watched so many others, but yours shows it in such a simple way. Looking forward to seeing what else your going to do. Now to get started on mine. Making mine into an overlander.
Most detailed video I've seen in RUclips regarding this conversion! My 2000 expedition has been giving me issues with the rear suspension for a few years now but it wasn't until two days ago when the rear just hit the floor. After looking at about 20+ vids none of them were as good as yours. Not even close. Really glad I saw your video. Keep up the good work! Liked and subscribed! Can't wait to see what else you upload regarding the expedition.
