Talking w his agent now. Hope we can work together
Don’t play it down. Prince played a big role in Dr.Rogers life.
Love your work Bill.just picked up Thelma Houston and the pressure cookers love that drum sound with the Jim's
Really enjoyable interview. Great to hear some extra background info about Alan's part in those legendary NIN albums. Thanks
I cant believe this video doesnt have many views?! This is hidden treasure! I absolutely love listening to steve Lipson’s producing stories! Wish this was longer!
Daft punk was already hugely successful and an legendary act Andrew , just because u didn’t know it doesn’t mean ‘they had just a few things going’ look them up on google
353 views.. insane. This is gold.
Albini sucks......The sound on this album was horrible.....Too much Bottom......Can`t hear the drums.....Needs to be remastered.....
He didn't "produce" DSOTM...
2:41 How is it "slightly ironic?" Now of the allegations Michael faced were ever proven.
I love those albums he contributed to. A great talent. U2 to Morrissey - so many! What a legacy. I wish had him producing my stuff.
I had no idea what that song was.. the sheep and carrots!!!!! let the rabbits wear Glasses!!!
id love to hear him talk about making mbv loveless
Crazy part is that if you can find the alan parsons quad remix of the album... to a DSOM addict, it is like a totally different album. and much better. ruclips.net/p/PLilX_wFszP8gRPyRPBrQrFm_Fe655NHGv
Agreed. Everyone has been listening to the mixdown of this masterpiece
These are so great. Thank you Andrew.
Thanks was epic. Thanks!
COVID phobic?
Holy crap! Its no wonder this is the most popular episode of all time!! How cool!!
Amazing. 5 hours of expert information. 340 views and no comments.
Regarding how Jimmy specifically plays the guitar riff on Whole Lotta Love, I know what Steve was referring to. Joe Walsh broke it down on a RUclips video a while back and showed the correct way to play it.
Rip Steve
Pretty sad that the Tom Waits album "Alpha Hobo" is probably never going to come out.
Love how Bruce would pan the instruments on the Love albums. Very cool interview
You asked some great questions, great interviewer!!
The mask ruins this interview. Very disappointing.
Dude he died.
@@slofty but he was alive at this point in time. That's the reference here. We know Steve passed long after this interview.
@@edriley2703he was found with a mask in his throat . It became sentient and attacked him
What nonsense. The book “White Fragility” was written by a self described racist who thinks poc are inferior. Non of that aged well. Apologizing for being a white male. Talk about racist. Steve had a logic behind his early work. He wasn’t ignorant or particularly privileged. He was investigating the dark sides of humanity. Why apologize for that?
Rest easy mate.. you were brilliant 🙏🏻😞 in utero is one of my favourite records he worked on. He was absolutely awesome.
Mannn he was so young and built so much stuff! Really great interview!
their was a NIN song on the Doom score which Alan worked on. the credit is likely because of that
God bless you Steve...you raised them up...Martin Hannet i think was in there briefly
The drums and mix on Audioslave's Show Me How To Live are amazing. Also love mix/production on this Muse album. Uprising is often a great comparison example.
The running order of The Fragile always seemed incoherent to me. The first 4 songs work then i think Bob was just throwing darts and got away with it becuse Trent respected Bob so much.
What a resume: U2's "War" and Big Country's "In a Big Country". Two CD's I still drop when I am craving serious ear candy.
I always saw him in the credits, but never knew he was fired.
"Danny brought in his sawn-off shot gun..." as you do
And Maynard shot it
Legend
What a guy🙌🏻
Curve... enough said.
Andrew, many thanks for a great look inside with the incomparable Bill Schnee.
Yeah, George was a white guy. Working with a Black Band. But then so was Bruce Swedien. The big old white Swedish guy from, Minnesota. Doing all of Michael Jackson's hits with Quincy Jones, Producing. Same thing there with a white guy. Making, Historic Black Music. And neither of you were Jewish. How did that happen? George intrinsically knows what everything needs to sound like. Except for, Baroque, Bach, Harpsichord. He played trombone. He doesn't know what, 18th-century harpsichord's are supposed to sound like. I discovered back in, 1972. When he recorded my mom's best friend. Who was the Principal Harpsichordist for the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. And he recorded it. As if it was rock 'n' roll. Complete with his favorite rock 'n' roll microphones. And I don't know what he was thinking? I figured, he must've been on drugs? As that is not how a harpsichord is, supposed to sound like. It's not rock 'n' roll. It's Baroque, Harpsichord, music. It's definitely not R&B. George didn't seem to know that back then? DUH? And we've never talked about that recording he made. As I had made a much better one for her. The summer before. But she wanted a Professional Recording. And the guys in the Symphony Orchestra directed her to George Massenburg. And his brand-new ITI Studio. And I wouldn't build my first big brick-and-mortar studio. For another 13 years. When I, like George. Designed and built my own Audio Console. But with 1073 Equalizers. Not, Parametric Equalizers like George had and popularized. Oh well? Not everyone is like George. He also does not like stupid musicians. The take too long. To, Tune, their guitars. He gets very impatient with that. As I guess. They don't have a Strobe Tuner like he did? I do not know? And I really don't care. It's unimportant. While George is all about the Business aspect. While I am just a Creative Facilitator. George goes beyond that. He's got a lot of opinions. They, may not be interested in? There's no disputing though. George is a world-famous engineer. RemyRAD
Very interesting! Ssl ATT story Kind of a foray into the blackberry wars?😅
....... When the interviewer talks more than the interviewee.
"Real artists want to change things up." Cannot say it much simpler than that. But "try this and that." Had to have become frustrating. But they all learned.
The Crossing….Steve Lilywhite
Thanks for this. Where is part two?
Wish we could hear the rest of the interview...Is there more?
Oh this was fantastic! Big fan of his work. Back in the day when I knew who produced albums and they were as important as the artist. Haha, is it just me, or was his energy and body movement all over the place. Time to watch the next part of this interview.
Daft Punk have prob made a lot of money from being sampled by Kanye, synch licensing and also touring. They prob just didn't blow it all and had enough to make the record.
Love this. I have an RE15. Great mic ha
Alan has his fingerprints on so many incredible records.
