I haven't listened to lifefm in years but tonight at 11:32pm. My clock radio was flashing like there'd been a micropower cut, when I tried to fix, it the radio came on and it was playing an ad for sanctuary. I felt like God was haunting me.

It's better to build bridges rather than walls it's saddening that act want to roll back all the good work to reconcile the harm done through colonisation. The treaty is a agreement and a promise that must be honored . Going against the treaty is a betrayal because greed has no loyalty

Churches are entwined with the world system since AD312 so it doesn't surprise me that churches write a letter however what does surprise me is that of all the issues affecting new Zealanders they pick on this one. This shows just how out of touch with reality the church system is. No surprise that these churches are essentially dying. .

The treaty as a "sacred covenant" is just so insanely at odds with my understanding of Christianity. Someone explain this to me. I thought that Christians believe that the Bible, God, Jesus is sacred. You know, Christian canon. Isn't it literally blasphemous for someone in their capacity as a Christian leader to declare something sacred to their religion that falls outside of this?

As most churches are almst empty, these ‘woke’ clerics really represent a minority. Hana is vague on the Seymour’s Bill. ‘Reconcilliation’ has been going on for more than a century. Land claims were held in the 1860s, 1906, and full and final settlements from 1922 to 1958. After the 1975 Act more grievances magically appeared. (See: Mike Butler, The Treaty: Basic Facts, 2021.) She mentions ‘a series of breaches of Te Tiriti’, but gives no examples. In an alternate reality the NZ Government kept closely to the law in its dealings with Māori. (See: John Robinson, Who Really Broke The Treaty?, 2024). The Treaty Principles Bill simplifies the Treaty. E.g. Article 2: ‘The Queen of England confirms and guarantees to the chiefs and tribes and to all the people of New Zealand the possession of their lands, dwellings and all their property. But the chiefs of the Confederation and the other chiefs grant to the Queen the exclusive right of purchasing such land as the proprietors thereof may be disposed to sell at such prices as shall be agreed upon between them and the persons appointed by the Queen to purchase from them.’ becomes: ‘The New Zealand Government will honour all New Zealanders in the chieftainship of their land and all their property.’ For Hana’s ‘better understanding of history’ read ‘ indoctrinated into critical race theory‘. Where in the Treaty does it say ‘ensure that Māori will flourish’? She says ‘Justice is what you feel and smell.’ Hana seems to live in parallel universe. “Māori are struggling because of what has happened in the past.’ Specifically to what is she referring. This year’s budget gave $800 million to Māori. Does she think less should have been given? My Māori relations seem to survive fine without such handouts. Her enthusiasm for tribal paganism in Christian churches contrasts with the spiritual discernment of the chiefs who signed the Treaty.

Hana clearly does not know what she is talking about. She needs to look into the original TOW, and then it will be seen that Maori became equal British subjects with the rest of British subjects of the day under the Queen. The Queen gave them protection of their land and possessions, and became the sole entity to arrange selling of Maori land as Maori wished at agreed prices, to protect Maori from bad deals. All David Seymours bill seeks to do is give us all equal rights. No contradiction there and have a discussion, which is something we should be able to do in free country. As a Christian myself, I do not accept that Hana and the other so-called church leaders represent me or other Christians, just like the Maori party does not represent all Maori. Hana should get out of politics in regards to trying to speak for others. She should only be speaking for herself. God is a God of freedom and loves all his children no matter what their race is. Less get rid of the racist policies once and for all. It is the rhetoric like Hana's that is sowing division, not Seymours, bill. The backlash to Seymours bill come from division sown by other political parties, especially in the last few years and back to the 1970's. How about we all focus on being good New Zealanders instead and stop the "Me Me Me" mentality.

Why do church leaders lie. The aim of the bill is not to change the treaty but to clarify and explain it. Seymour even not a christian seems to have more knowledge about what the Bible teach us.

I am trying to find a coherent argument against the bill, other than the usual generic hand waving and "its bad". All the usual "we want Dual governance and unelected representation on local councils" followed by "don't try to politicise the issue". Sorry this is all about politics!

This is a very very poor interview. Hana trots out a series of unsubstantiated accusations against Seymour's Bill. The interviewer doesn't ask for substantiation. For example, "Where exactly in the articles of the Treaty is Seymour's Bill breaching the Treaty?" "Which Article, and where?" The interview is so shallow it's embarrassing. Makes the church leaders and Lizzie look completely stupid. Take it down.
