Valerie Biel is a publicity and book marketing pro as well as an award-winning author. Her Circle of Nine fantasy series includes stories of magic steeped in the Celtic mythology of Ireland’s ancient stone circles. Her other books include HAVEN, a middle-grade novel that sensitively handles the tough topic of domestic abuse through the eyes of an 11-year-old, and BEYOND THE CEMETERY GATE, a mystery suspense novel.
She helps authors navigate the ever-changing world of publishing, providing skilled advice and technical services for each step. She's also the host of Books & Beer -- a different kind of book club meeting once a month to discuss an author's work in-person. She's co-host of the WisMissus Podcast: Reading, Writing & Roaming around Wisconsin, the Midwest, & Beyond. (Replays of both are available on this channel.)

Plotting Your Novel Series: Part Seven -Preparing to Edit
Why don’t they show Justin Baldoni in any of these?
I had a great time! Thank you for hosting me. You ask the best questions. ☺
I had a great time asking them!!
Thanks so much Val! This was a fun discussion and you are a fantastic host.
It was a blast! Thanks for trusting me with your first interview as Karissa. :)
It's nice to hear about conferences and workshops that are in our area. With so much publicity around the giant conventions, these smaller ones get lost in the shuffle, but can offer chances to connect with others in beneficial ways.
I agree and our budgets get stretched with the bigger conferences fees sometimes, too. There are some gems locally that have a nice price point and still give you great value for your money.
So .... Little Gray Lies OR A Fragment of Family. Which do you like best??
Little Gray Lies sounds like you're talking about a woman with gray hair and NOT an MG book. A Fragment of Family is much more in line with the family troubles that tend to appeal to the MG reader. In my opinion.
@@christinedesmet3710 Does it make a difference if it is YA . . . and if you know it is a murder mystery? Prob not, right?
Not a difference at all; you answered your question. YA would be the same. No teen reader is interested in anything "gray," though they do love their grandmas and grandpas a lot. Also, we don't know what "gray lies" means and thus it's just not a grabber. But we do understand a family falling apart--a fragment of one, which feels sad and in need of attention. @@ValerieBielAuthor
Best of luck!
Thank you!
Wonderful idea!
Thank you! 😊
This was such an interesting conversation! I’m a hybrid “planster”-a blend of panster and planner. But if push came to shove and I could only pick one, I’m a panster.
Oh, man - I'd need a barf bag!
Yummmm! Beautiful gardens and yard. Must be your little slice of heaven (on Earth)
And if you have any extra blackberries . . . (my favorite berry) ;-)
@@ChrisNorburyAuthor It is a nice place -- not so hard to ride out a pandemic here. If all else fails in terms of fresh blackberries, there will likely be some in the freezer to share. :)
