It reminds me of staying over at my friend’s house as a kid. His family life was rough, and I only visited once or twice. We’d stay up until 3 A.M., trying to see if anything creepy was happening, and to pass the time, we’d play Minecraft. After a particularly long strip mining session, I noticed that my friend had fallen asleep. I was terrified that a creeper (or even worse, an Enderman) might come and kill me. I heard his parents fighting in the other room, so I switched off the TV and pretended to sleep. I was almost grateful that he had fallen asleep before he could hear the things I heard. I later found out that his parents were divorcing because his father was extremely abusive. They moved away the following year, and we lost contact. That night, I realized that while I was scared of the monsters on the screen, my friend was facing monsters in his own life, and they were real.
