where did you find the new side panels?
I made them. Poplar cores, Rosewood veneer. Veneer tinted with Lockwood Honduras Brown Mahogany water base dye powder. Grain sealed with SolarEz, wet sanded smooth. 6 spray on coats gloss Lacquer. Very happy with the end result.
@@70GD thanks for the info.

Very nice speakers I love the 3 series AR's very nice equipment. this is inspiring.
Thank you! The Onkyo is fairly new to me, purchased last February. It had been completely rebuilt! I'm extremely happy with it. It replaced my Victor (JVC) M-7050 power amp that blew the left channel unfortunately. Cheers!
BEAUTIFUL my friend.
Thank you sir!
This thing sounds awesome, but specially in those little Rat Shack speakers. You should try it on those nice ARs you’ve got. Is this running the original silicon?
Thank you! The receiver is all original. Refinished the cabinet, cleaned the inside. I grew up with this system. I have the GB-1E speakers that grow with it, recently recapped them. I’ll have to try it with the ARs! Cheers!
Completely original.
what is the system and speakers playing here? looks like tube gear, a sub, and mozart old speakers.
It's the system in the title. Sub not used here. Power amp is on the bottom shelf, pre-amp above it. Cheers!
@@70GD they look great! Im looking for a pair but they are usually 15 years old- is that a problem? Do you think the Mozart drivers and crossovers are probably toast after 15 years?
Crossovers should be fine. The mid woofer drivers cons can separate from the surrounds. You’ll know if you hear buzzing from any of the four drivers. Mine had one blown woofer because the owner used them with a cone separated causing excessive VC rub. I had to replace that driver. Another cone was partially separating which I reglued. The other two I ran a thin bead of glue around the cone and surrounds on the back side so it wouldn’t happen to them. They are very nice sounding.
@@70GD Im considering a pair of bashed up 15 year old Mozarts going for around $700, this video says the Mozart measures well -> ruclips.net/video/geftHgq_gsQ/видео.html
These were my first Maggies. I've sold these and now have a set of late model MMGs. They sound a bit better, not quite as narrow a sweet spot, and fit my space better because they are narrower. I hope to maybe one day have a set of 1.7s. They would be the largest I could fit. Thank you for your comments! Cheers!
quel pieds !!!!
Speakers look and sound very nice.... love to see doggo @2:00 🙂
Thank you!
Very cozy. Just right. Really like the white grill faces on the AR3’s.
Thank you! The 3s are fully restored. The grille are Mellotone, that match the original Saran material. The Mozarts are original, sans one woofer that needed replacing. Very easy to listen to, non fatiguing. Cheers!
We’ve made it upstairs! 😇😂
They've been in the living room, part of my "surround" sound TV setup! Doing painting and moved them here while the work is being done.
Good Video, looks you like AR speakers.me too, I own 3a , 2ax ,4x .and 302.That’s right, old AR speakers need recap and rewire ,clean pot connection may replaced . after that is magic sound.
Try comparing them with the AR10 pi or AR11 which came out in 1974. These speakers were the ultimate evolution of AR's original 3 way design. They sound superior to the 3 or the 3a.
I realize this is old post, I have m 7050 and was wondering how hard to change the meter lights color. What kind of bulb?
HI! Are A3 and A12 comparable in your opinion? Thank you!
In m.p.o this model is the best acoustic research speakers ever build! Awesome!
Thank you! They are special for sure, and one of my favorites. But, my completely restored AR3s (I have two sets) are simply amazing.
Unbelievable speakers.
I can clearly see why so many people like the L980's. Nice job capturing that!
Just made new stands for my 980s. Finishing them today with rubber to protect the bottom of the speaker from metal frame.
I have acquired a comparable set, a AX-Z1010 (first owner) and a set of AR90 speakers (also first owner). It seems that the JVC has plenty of power to really open up the AR's.
Yup, it's an excellent integrated. Cheers on getting a nice setup!
beautiful DCM speakers ❤
Thank youI These are very early production. I did a cosmetic restoration, and replaced one woofer that was distorting. My neighbor now ownes them, but I still get to hear them when I go hand out! Terrific speakers!
Clean setting, clean speakers, clean sound.
It was the same model Wich staied at abbaye road during recording dark side of the moon
Thanks for this info! They've moved onto my co-workers house. He set up a very nice vintage system and really wanted the L200s. I liked them a lot, but I prefer my ADSs and ARs more. Cheers!
How would You compare the mighty M7050 - to JVC A - X9? Is it even possible to do so? cheers, @70GD
Similar sound signature, but a ton more headroom. Improves the overall sound in every way.
Fantastic!
hello GD, I've just got mine A - X9 - brilliant machine, same league as my Accuphase and tube Luxmans..but my question is : does it usually get THIS hot, even at low volumes? What would You recommend to replace in it, as it hasn't been maintained in YEARS I presume..kind regards/Krystian
I like the ads l980's in the background, I worked there in the mid 80's,might of built that pair
I agree! The KEFs are excellent, but to my ears, the L980s are better. Also have a set of 910s behind the AR3s. Love those beasts! L980 SN# 003342 & 003410, maybe you’ll know if you built them. I’m currently restoring a set for a client, SNs 002605 & 002917.
Hey Glenn long time! How do these compare to the rest of your awesome stable? I traded away my JVC stack earlier this year for a fully restored Sansui AU-20000 and I'm glad I did! A friend of mine just got a pair of these and I am impressed! I did the donuts for him.
Hey Dan! That Sansui is a great amp! Heard one at a recent Frankenfest. The KEFs are really great, but at this point won’t unseat anything in the cave. The KEFs are definitely a bit more laid back than the n the AR3s. But are very satisfying and better than expected bass. If I didn’t have a full stable, I’d certainly consider a set. Hope your well!
They look and sound wonderful. Great job! Even more impressive than when I first Saw/Heard them 40'ish years ago?
Thank you! The owner should be very happy with them. Very nice speakers for sure!
Hello. Between AR 2AX or AR 12, which one to choose and why? Regards
Sorry for the late reply. AR12s, no question. They have the great AR sound, but more modern sound. Every aspect is better in my opinion. Detail in the highs, mids, bass is outstanding for a 10 inch woofer. 12s are rare, only produced one year, 1977. Most will need restoration work if you find a pair, it well worth it.
I like AR 12 better. sound more clear and may don’t need rework if you can get good condition one.
Great system... Track?
Thanks! Track is "Gets Captured By The Game" - Massive Attack. You can see it in the iPod screen at the beginning. Cheers!
Very nice, those AR3s launched a lot of people into the audio world. Those Scott amps are nice. I wish I kept my ARs
Is the subwoofer on?
Sounds much better now with more break-in time
You should try it with Koss 1030's or 1020's
Nice setup 40w of tube is a lot. Bet you don't have to turn it up very much
Thank you! Lots of work into these pieces. Sometimes yes, one just needs to crank it! But generally I'm around 10-12 oClock setting with the 3's.
@@70GD How do you think they compare to your Dynacos?
@@MrRourk Don't have Dynacos. Which speakers are you referring to, maybe the KLH Six's?
That Scott LK-72 paired with the AR3's is a perfect combination. Beautiful work on the wood too. I enjoyed this video.
Thank you sir!
Thank you! Initially, I wasn’t sure the Scott could push the 3s, for years I had a set of 1963 KLH Six’s hooked up to it and that sounds great as well. The 3s even better! Cheers!
love the M-7050 how did the blue lights come about? I have one and the meter background is amber
Love my 910s. Beautiful recording. Really shows how awesome these speakers sound. What did you record the sound with?
Thank you! Recorded this with my iPhone.
The 3's, to me, sound more 'natural'.
I had many vintage Ar sprakers "The older the smoother" The old cheaper & even smaller models that in some cases had 6 to 8 inch woofer & a 2 way models more "Darker" and smooder models. The woofer was projecting most of the sound . The AR-3 & Ar3a came with 3 way cross& with that large Dome mid driver . Thats actually the first time Ar turn to be more open sounding "all arround sound" so Ar-3 was good but ccross let the woofer do lot of the work then ar-3a came with diferent cross that shfted alot of the effort to the midrange unit. Makes the ar3a more open & crispy sound and little harash for some type of music that needed darker 2 way speaker to filter lots of that harash bad mix noisees etc . So in my overall opinion If you like old music jazz soul r&b look for vintage 2 way Ar ... If you more into.more electro like in this clip.go get vintage JBL L100
Sounded great. I’ve since sold the Macs and my neighbor loved the Time Windows and bought them, so I still get to hear them!
What the speaker sound with mcintosh sir ? Thanks
Not doing it for me
Best mid tones of any speaker ever built.
Agree! Too bad they were produced for only one year. Cheers!
I have a pair of NAD 20's. Have you recapped them? Mine have not yet ben done.
Nope, original. These were a curb find. I listened for a bit, then my son had them for a couple years. I moved them on to a friend who was setting up a small system for his daughter.
You know a speaker sounds amazing if even a phone video of them does them solid justice.
Thanks, and they are amazing speakers. My neighbor loved them so much I sold them to him! Needed room in the cave, but can go hear them any time I want. Win Win for both of us! Cheers!
hello, it has a good dynamics and refinement?
It sounds great in person, but the 910s perform much better with more power.
@@70GD but have a bit of dinamic?
Seems to have different cone materials.
