I love Leinster books but it's extraordinarily dated. It's a strange mix of the visionary with a weirdly race-obsessed imagining of humanity - in which, just like robins, weaverbirds, swallows and swifts have made their own characteristic species-wide nests for millennia, the Amerindian race keep to teepees, talk of scalping... the Spanish race of course live in stucco haciendas... it's "written in their ancestry". It's as well he stopped short of a planet full of cotton which some eagerly set to picking. I can't tell if this is a benign, tempered racial identitarianism, which tries excuses itself by proscribing a decorative role to each ethnicity, or just as corrosive as your standard racial stereotyping.

Ngl thought this was gonna be an A.I. version of a >new< book in the style of Murray Leinster, but based on Dune. Either way I’m happy.

These were really fun books. They contained a lot of outside thinking and breaking out of group think and fighting un-winnable battles. I picked up the Deathworld Trilogy at a library clearance sale, and I was appreciative of being able to find it.
