4WD ADVENTURER
Австралия
Добавлен 9 ноя 2019
Peter, Shayne and Sadza* (our Cobberdog) documenting our Land Cruiser 76 build (aka Big Betty) as well as our Aussie and Africa camping adventures.
There’ll be some novice bush cooking recipes, tips and ideas, some humour from Wifey and ideas on where to adventure with a dog, not always but sometimes. Maybe the odd home brew recipe as well. We will provide you with reviews of the gear that we use, nothing sponsored just what we choose to use and whether we like it or not. Along the way we will share our experiences with our 76 Cruiser build and who has helped us along the way.
We do not usually create video content so this is just a few videos that we have compiled from fairly bad iPhone footage and a really old GoPro. Hopefully over time we will get some better camera gear and improve on this content. Either way hope you enjoy our short little videos.

Fitting the Lightest Rear Barn Door Table for the 76 Series Toyota Land Cruiser by Svnty6 Fab
This is by far the lightest rear barn door table available for the 76 Series Toyota Land Cruiser made in Australia by Svnty6 Fab. Made in Brisbane from 3mm aluminium and only weighing 4.5kgs! In this 4WD Adventurer 76 Series Land Cruiser build video we show you how easy it is to fit the Svnty6 Fab rear barn door table. We also show you how well the Svnty6 Fab rear barn door table works. This is a great looking table, finished in a textured black powder coat. A great addition to the 76 Series Toyota Land Cruiser.

Another Fraser Island teaser, this one is of Champagne Pools. Usually a busy spot, a good indication will be the carpark. If tour buses you know it’s going to be busy. Nice walk down a beautifully made boardwalk, only in Australia, what a place we live in. This is far up the eastern side of Fraser after Indian Head. The carpark is on the inland track that takes you to Orchid Beach and all then ...

TJM Airtec Snorkel Install on a 70 Series Land Cruiser
Просмотров 6 тыс.4 года назад
We decided to install a TJM snorkel on our 76 Series Land Cruiser for two reasons: 1. We won't need to cut half the side of the Cruiser out to fit. 2. As it should be an easy install you can do it yourself and therefore costs half. This video shows you the install of the TJM snorkel to replace the factory unsealed one. Recommended fitting time of 2 hours but should take you less than 45 minutes...

Would like to see the same equipment for the small barn door.
Hey mate. They’ve just realised one for both the 76 and Troopy. I’ve got one in mine, just haven’t put anything up with it.
@4wdadventurer Hey, thanks for letting me know. Would be interested to see if it could be installed without having to drill or use rivnuts.
PCV system hose has always a thermal insulation for a reason and the same hose is always short for a reason. This just is just introducing condensation risk to the exhaust gases and also increasing residence time of exhaust gases in the crankcase🚶🏻
Looks like a great and simple install. 3 years on, do you rate it? Would run it again knowing what you know now?
Hey mate. Yes and yes. Had no issues with water ingress. So works as it’s supposed to. Still have stock air box so still get tiny amounts of dust ingress but that’s only minimal during long days of driving with plenty of dust. For the cost and ease of install not requiring a big chunk of the side panel cut which can lead to rust issues, it’s a no brainer for me. Also had no issues with performance gain during dyno tune compared to others running Safari.
Can I ask why you replaced the existing one? I have the same Toyota/OEM one to fit to my HZJ73 but wondering why you have replaced your OG one?
Hey mate. The factory one isn’t sealed. Comes in a couple of pieces. Wanted a sealed one for water ingress. The TJM one is one piece, so sealed. Believe the factory one is mainly to deal with dust.
Cooked this over the weekend and it was delicious! We didnt bring flour but in the end didnt seem necessary it was nice thick consistency perfect for a cold night out camping.
Awesome mate. Glad you enjoyed it. Is a go to winter meal for me.
Where can i those window coverings?
Hey mate. They are made by Solar Screen Australia. 4wdadventurer.com/4wds/land-cruiser-build-rear-solar-screens/
You did a good job on the fire that looks good yummy
Thank you 😋
Thanks for the video bro, much appreciated. Mine just arrived this morning, will hopefully rig it up this afternoon. Big one for me is buying locally produced pieces. Cheers
No worries mate. Glad you found it useful. Hope you went ok fitting it. You’ll be stoked with the table, quality Australian made product.
Would this fit a 75 Troopy barn door? Looks the same!
Hey mate. I am not sure on the 75. Might be worth contacting Rick at Svnty6 and check. I know it fits the Troopy. Just not sure on the 75 Troopy.
hello . is it available for nissan patrol y61
Hey mate. No only for the 70 Series Land Cruisers. There may be other brands for the patrol though.
Inspiring. Thank you. Well done. An organised waggon definitely makes it easier and that much more relaxing. Take care.
Thanks mate. Yeah an organised wagon is a must. Nothing worse than struggling to find things.
Looks tasty! I just got this same camp oven and are excited to try it now!
Hey mate wanted to ask we’re I can purchase this back table for my 76 in WA.
Hey mate. You can buy direct through Svnty6 Fab’s website. They have a sale on at the moment as well. www.svnty6.com.au/products/rear-door-drop-down-table-to-suit-toyota-landcruiser-76-series-wagon
Looks great, love the carpet, looks professional, can’t beat diy, so much satisfaction, 1st time subscriber to your channel, just ordered your stickers/patches online 👍👍👍👍 collect 4wd Velcro patches 😂😂😂😂cheers Louis
Thanks mate. Really appreciate the feedback and support. Sending those patches out today! I need to do an update on the rear setup as it’s changed a bit again over the last 18 months or so.
@@4wdadventurer sounds good 👍
What a setup. Amazing work.
Thanks mate really appreciate it!
Hey mate, how are the LED's fitted to the roof of the rear?
Hey mate. When we had the setup running like that, the one on the LHS was just the magnet on a steel bracket. The ones in the centre rear shelf, cut out the carpet to size and then glued them onto the ply.
@@4wdadventurer Ah nice. Thanks for that man. Did you have a false roof?
Na at the time of this vid we had a rear shelf setup we built. Check this vid here. Shows the lights etc. unless you are referencing a different light? DIY Drawer Modifications to Our Existing Drifta 4WD Drawer Setup ruclips.net/video/rvYH5ftxQ80/видео.html
@@4wdadventurer I can see much better. Cheers boet!
Hi mate, where did you get the rear window lining stuff?
Hey mate. We have written a story on our website about it here 4wdadventurer.com/4wds/land-cruiser-build-rear-solar-screens/ Solar Screen Australia based in Brisi.
Just done mine today - 2011 76 series, it was a bitch - just trying to make things fit.
Yeah the hoses are difficult to run. The one disadvantage of the one piece hoses. Would be easier with baby hands 😀
I truly do love your setup. Very neat and very organised. I do have to say though, on the opposite when it comes to things in bags. One of the very first things I do when I buy an item that comes in a bag, is I get rid of the bag. I do agree that some things are better kept in the bag but boy oh boy do you save some time unpacking and packing when you get rid of the bag.
Thanks mate appreciate it. With the bags, for us, we move between the 76 and our camper trailer all the time. So having everything in bags makes it super quick and easy depending on which setup we are using. Grab a few bags from the trailer and throw them in the 76 and off we go. Really depends on how you use your setup. For us, bags make it really easy.
was thinking the same thing.. looks good at home, but on the track.. the bags are gone..
What cover are using to store your knife / chopping board in. I’m looking for something at the moment.
Hey mate. The one we use is a bootliner bag from Drifta.
@@4wdadventurer Thanks brother, just found it 👍
Good stew mate 👍
Thanks mate. Simple but tasty.
Do you have a video of installing the Western Filters fuel manager filter as well?
Hey mate. No sorry I didn’t end up doing on. But I’ve written a blog post with pics from the install if you want to read that. 4wdadventurer.com/4wds/land-cruiser-build-fuel-pre-filter/
Just purchased my 76 thanks for a great vid mate I’ve got the inspiration thing working now 👍👍
That’s awesome mate. Always exciting starting a new build. Check out our blog for lots of build posts if you need any more inspiration.
looking' good.... but where are the mushrooms ?
Thanks mate. I don’t do mushrooms haha. Much to my wife’s disappointment.
Have you got tatts?
Rv3 with a drifta 270 awning? I am thinking about trying this setup, how’s it going? Any info or pro’s and cons would be helpful 👍
Hey mate. We have been using the RV3 for years now. We do have a camper trailer with a RTT but use the RV3 on solo trips or where we don’t take the trailer. It’s good for two people. Not much more room inside with two single self inflating mattresses. Super quick and easy to setup but bulky because of it. I do love it though. Stopped using my swag on solo trips and use the RV3 instead. With the 270 awning it is made by Supa Peg. Canvas is good as it dries out quickly. But at the time there weren’t many free standing options. Now I’d prefer a quicker setup awning. Although this one is not too bad. I do prefer proper canvas though compared to the new synthetic material everyone uses.
@@4wdadventurer Nice one, thanks for the info. Durability and functionality are my main needs so if both have been used and abused and are still standing up to it that sounds like a win.
Just ordered one and haven’t even taken Delivery of my 76 yet, haha. Thanks for the video mate
Great stuff mate. I remember when we had a pile of gear sitting in the shed waiting for the 76 when we ordered ours a few years back.
Bloody great job mate. I'm waiting on my drifta drawer system and want to do pretty much the same.
Thanks mate. If you check out our blog you can see how we made them.
@@4wdadventurer will do. Thanks again
Deadly work lad 👍🏾
Thanks mate 👍
Will this fit the 78 as well.
Not sure mate. I’m assuming the 78 barn door is the same right? Might be worth checking with Svnty6 Fab. But I wouldn’t think that Toyota would make the barn doors different for easier production.
Nice unit. Going to get one. I'm looking to order the same drifter set up for our 76. Can I ask what size drawers you have and what size fridge you have? Also what is the total height of your drifta unit? Thanks Mick
Hey Mick, Thanks for watching mate appreciate it. We have done a few posts on our blog re the Drifta drawers. You can read them here. 4wdadventurer.com/4wds/76-land-cruiser/drifta-rear-drawers-review-76-series-toyota-land-cruiser/ Fridge is Waeco CFX50 (50 litre). I will have to measure the drawers up for you when I get a chance. Cheers, Peter
@@4wdadventurer thanks. Much appreciated 👍
Hey Mick, Dimensions below: Depth - 880mm Width - 1013mm Height - 585mm Hope that helps. Peter
@@4wdadventurer thanks very much for that. Helps heaps 👍 I read your very thorough review. I like how you covered all the pros and cons. Really informative Cheers Mick
Looks great will definitely be buying one
Thanks Trent. Look forward to giving it a good test over the next couple of months. If you do want to get one, Svnty6 Fab were offering 15% off the first 10 purchased on pre order with code RDT15. Might be worth checking to see if the discount is still available if you want to get one sooner rather than later.
@@4wdadventurer yep just purchased one using that code cheers
Excellent vid mate. You clearly film everything. Thanks for sharing 👍
Thanks mate appreciate the feedback and good to know it helped. We need to get a few more vids up.
Looks bloody awesome matey
Thanks mate 👍 need to do a vid update as setups changed a bit again 😆
Hey mate, can you please show where does your hose go at the bottom? I am worried that my set up will affect steering.
Hey mate. Have you had a look at our blog post? We have loads of pictures and that should give you a good idea of where the hoses are running. I’ve added the link below. Let us know if you need any other info. 4wdadventurer.com/4wds/land-cruiser-build-oil-catch-can/ Cheers Peter
Just waiting on one to arrive for my 76. My local guys spent a bit of time trying to talk me into a Safari (they are great but can be stuck in their ways) and were sure this needed panel mods as well (like either of the Safari versions). I ended up showing them your vid to make my case.
Awesome Andy glad the vid helped. Definitely no mods at all. Such an easy install. We did a blog post as well which might help if fitting yourself. Safari are good but I don’t recon the tiny gains some people claim are worth it for what you need to do with the install. We got insane performance improvement from Just Autos with the TJM. 4wdadventurer.com/4wds/land-cruiser-build-snorkel/ 4wdadventurer.com/4wds/76-land-cruiser/custom-dyno-tune-ecu-remap-by-just-autos/
@@4wdadventurer Cheers thanks mate. Yes once I finish a few more jobs a tune/map is in order. Nice to know that works with the Airtec !
Looks like a great track, love to get there one day 😊😊😊
Thanks mate, Glass House has so many great tracks. Such an awesome spot.
@@4wdadventurer hey, we're girls 😃😃😘😘
Nice setup. Where did you get those shades on your barn door windows?
Thanks mate. They are from Solar Screen Australia. Check out our blog post here 4wdadventurer.com/4wds/land-cruiser-build-rear-solar-screens/
@@4wdadventurer thanks for that. Been looking for something like this for ages.
No problem mate. Hit them up they are very well made and fit perfectly. I think they cost around $200 for the rear side windows and barn windows. Make a big difference with heat and added security with no one being able to see our gear.
Thanks mate .
No problem mate. Hopefully it helped.
Subbed also
Hi. Can you tell me if the top of the air ram is any higher than the highest point of the roof?
Hey mate. Just guessing but it’s probably about 50mm higher but hard to tell with our roof rack and the curve in the roof. It sits well below the pioneer platform. Hope that helps.
Stupid question. Where did you get the carpet from. It looks like it matches the Drifta ones really close.
Hey mate. Not at all, we got that carpet from Bunnings. It’s a marine carpet with a rubber backing and charcoal in colour I think. It matches pretty close. Only problem is the rubber backing adds a bit of weight but it’s a lot thicker than the Drifta carpet so doesn’t easily get damaged which has already happened to the top of our drawers.
Excellent setup, love. I set up my 100 series with similar ideas. Shows you dont need a trailer.
Thanks Mack. Yeah you are right. If you get storage right and carry the correct gear you definitely don’t need one.
What brand is that camp oven?
Gday Dave. It’s a Kings one. But made by Southern Metal Spinners. They seem to make a lot of the Aussie camp ovens that other brands add their logo to. Was on special when we got it so went with the Kings branded one as we saved a few dollars.
I’m sure you are right but we choose to carry a spun steel camp oven for the weight difference. Cast iron is just too heavy.
Organization makes for a fun trip. I went across the Simpson in 2019 with a mate and every time he packed his car each morning it was packed differently. I knew where everything was in mine and he would turn his upside down just to find a bottle opener.
Haha that’s the worst mate having stuff disorganised. A well organised does make any trip more fun. So much better when everything had its place and is easy to get to.
Hi Putting grease on the bolts not a good idea because make them get loss instead would be better to use locknut liquid.
I’d agree with that mate when you aren’t removing bolts too often. We remove these every 10,000 kms when we change the filter so we are always checking tightness and easier to remove when not using locktite.
I love the Music ..
Thanks mate.
Well set up, gives me confidence that a 76 will take as much as my current canopy setup.
Cheers mate. Yeah if you can get the storage laid out well and have some good compact gear then you can get quite a bit in the 76. When we get the back seat out and make a few storage additions there with water etc it’ll then be tops for touring.
Thanks, really good to see how you packed for the trip, definitely investing in some canvas and bootliner bags
Cheers mate. Yeah canvas and bootliner bags make a massive difference. So much easier to pack and move. After this trip and all the rough roads, nothing got damaged. They work a treat.
Really well thought out set up, good idea with the water and fuel thats the best place for the weight. Thanks for sharing
Thanks Shad appreciate it mate. Next project is to remove the back seat and get permanent water storage and more storage options for spares etc.
@@4wdadventurer yeah , thats the go. I still haven’t pulled mine back out to carpet yet and take some measurements. It is handy though 👍👍
Did you make everything above the Drifta draws?
Gday Steve. Yeah we made the side shelf and top shelf. We did up a blog post showing how we did it all. Check out the link below. 4wdadventurer.com/4wds/land-cruiser-build-diy-rear-drawer-additional-storage/
