    I have my whatsapp in another phone which is almost broken with charging issues, so now I just have to wait a hell lot of time to checkout my whatsapp, I used to waste a lot of time on it now I don't because it's too arduous to just reach out to it. The best way to break out of something is very simple: Identify the trigger, the action you take and the reward, then break the trigger and action and make it hard for you to really acess and replace the reward with some new productive habit. Keep doing it by increasing more resistance on the bad habit and simplifying the productive ones. It's like doing resistance training on the bad habits and cardio on good ones.

    Right now Im learning for the first time as a 20 year old all about electronics. Im contemplating on pursuing electrical engineering in college but I wanna try it out first myself before committing. Ive never tinkered before growing up so everything is new. So Im trying to immerse myself as much as I can with content relating to electronics by watching a lot of yt videos, subscribing to a bunch of yt channels, bought an online course, and a beginner kit. Right now it all feels so overwhelming cause theres so much I dont know and understand. Im still trying to build up the habit though of watching content for beginners and doing it everyday but sometimes I do make excuses and get intimidated by the overload of information. So doing a little bit each day I guess is the way to go to make it sustainable and for my brain to still receive adequate immersion.

    “The brain will think about it while not doing it” that’s why we need to be more mindful when indulging in games and watching series, which overpower out problem solving solutions for trivial sht that’s not moving the needle. Why think about the next in game item, when you can be immersed with your projects. We are all natural problem solvers, don’t let your energy be wasted to solve characters dramas in shows that’s not relevant to your growth/life rn

      YES! This is such an important take. It is such a sad reality; we have so much power to do cool things and bring our ideas and projects to life. To think our brains are actually wired to help us out in all the ways it can, yet we choose to spend this energy on things that are ultimately not what's most important to us.

    I fucked up my last interview because I was afraid of getting a chance. Decided to wait for a bus that I knew would potentially be late because of the traffic spike, then thought if I called a taxi I'd be late, which was possibly true, so I went by foot after wasting precious minutes to wait for a bus. I had to literally run plus because of the panic I didn't see the sign with that company's name being literally meters away from it's entrance - that was the minute the interview was supposed to start. Then I went around a couple of minutes and luckily asked someone where it was. The HR saw I sent those messages that clarified I was actually in the right place just in time. I had the luck that the previous interview didn't finish for 10 more minutes so I could get to my senses just with the super nice HR. When I went in to do the interview I believe I was still a bit red and sweaty and I was also a little bit confused in all of the answers because of the previous events. Last night I had a dream about going frantically through a similar building and not being able to find a class that had already started. And guess what, an hour ago I got the message they decided not to proceed with my application. After a good self loathing (that I actually hate) I decided to never ever do that again. Mind you two people already warned me to take off on time but I was making all sorts of excuses and illogical reasons not to...

      @@James_Lim Honestly, the whole thing, but that first part about lots of ideas and your boss… 🥲 That’s my reality to an extent. But how does one break the cycle when there are bills to pay and day-to-day reality to face? Juggling a job and a side project is such a pain, but I know it’s manageable, and I still won’t do it for some reason. "I felt stuck, and lacked the courage to act on it." - but is it only about the courage, though?

    • @James_Lim
      @James_Lim 9 дней назад

      @@vasperTM I feel for you, it's not a nice place to be in 🙁Re. Breaking the cycle you made a good observation, It's not only about courage. Courage was a requirement to start the process, then I found it was a collection of systems needed to put in place to make everything work. It ended up being a bit of a machine. E.g. because the reality is you have to keep everything turning like you say. In summary, this means having strategy that results in the change of situation you want, I think most of us recognise that it's manageable, but many stop there. It's only manageable if you dedicate the energy to design a way out. It should take into account all the real-world practicalities; limited time after job, limited energy, the space to cultivate dedicated focus time, a roadmap that makes logical sense and if adhered to would likely lead to the change, you will likely need to create and exercise boundaries that will make you feel uncomfortable, and finally there will have to be sacrifices made. These will be painful, so you will instinctively resist. There the strategy has to be strong enough to convince you that those sacrifices are a worthwhile price to pay for opportunity for the change. Sadly it is not simple nor easy, but that's why so many people end up trapped. I couldn't bear the emotional pain for it any longer though so I was willing to do what it took. Let me know if you'd like some help, I can give a bit more guidance. It would help if I knew a little more about your situation, (these are your initial conditions that we can use to design a way out that works for you) Anyway, I hope that gives you an insight into the process I use.

    Starting multiple projects and not finishing them before moving on to new projects could be a sign of ADHD or ADD. If a person is also a curious learner type, that personality trait can compound the situation. Both of those can be strengths, but when over utilize, they become obstacles. Those people can get hyper focus and put in relentless effort in a short period of time at the beginning. That's why the graph shows a steep slope up. They may face some resistance in the process like perfectionism, exhaustion, or procrastination and distraction or curiosity in other areas kick in. Figure out your personality and traits at the core, accept them, then figure out how to feed them, but keep priorities on the project that gets you to your goal. Before adding a new project that you are extremely excited and curious to learn about, ask yourself how it would fit into your priorities and available time. It may be helpful to consult someone who knows you well for their feedback. Most people focus on one area or project to work on. It's easier to work toward mastery if there is only one major thing. But not everyone is built like that. People who have ADHD, abundant curiosity and intelligent CAN possess skills and knowledge that they can use across different domains and be successful when they are DISCIPLINED over a longer period of time.

    • @James_Lim
      @James_Lim 15 дней назад

      Good question. If you can, and you feel you have reached the adequate level you want to be at then of course move on. but in reality, I have rarely seen people hit the desired capability level within one week. This varies dramatically from person to person and from skill to skill. The quality of practise is important. for example, reading a book and taking notes on a topic for 20 hours is very different to implementing what the book contains. Some thoughts: 20 hours of high quality practise that yields the return you want is often difficult to do in a short space of time, why? Because it is difficult to leverage lots of optimised learning techniques like, spaced repetition, which requires time between practise sessions, high intensity practise (which requires breaks) Feedback on your practice can be difficult. e.g. if you are doing your own feedback, it's hard to have an effective perspective until some time has lapsed. (you look at things different having slept on it) And if you use external feedback from a person, like mentor/instructor.coach, it's likely they won't be responding to every one of your questions/struggles during a sprint session. During 20 hours of effective practise you would likely hit lots of roadblocks, that you'd have to go away and sit on. If you don't experience any of these, then you are likely an exceptional learner!
