3bet pots out of position as preflop raiser: tips and tricks
When you say check range OOP as the 3-bettor do you mean on some boards or all boards?
X range is sort of a lower stakes exploit idea and only on the boards that are bad for you. But also it just generally holds true that check is an underutilized tool and an underprotected range
Really interesting content. You didn’t speak about poker at all, but this is a great poker content. It reminds me a quote from José Mouriñho, a football coach who once said “a coach who only knows football, knows nothing about football”
enjoying this conversation. Jared's voice and cadence sounds to me like a hybrid between Joey Ingram and Sam Harris.
I will definitely take this.

Amazing conversation! 🤩
This was beatiful lads!
Is it fair to say, river shoves are going to be far more underbluffed than earlier nodes when the pot is smaller? I think river c/r is very underbluffed as well. Unless villain is a total animal
@@benjaminlopez9662 I wouldn't consider size of pot a major factor but yeah river and particularly xr river is a bit tougher to find. It often involves somewhat unnatural bluffs
I hate spots like this where its like fair play for even finding value in this line. And you know if theyre capable of finding value theyre capable of finding the bluffs too.
@@SeánMurphy-f2p the rare Irish viewer!
ah the holy uncertainty 🙏
Very nice of u to post all of the reasons why he might be doing this. And to expand on that, his hud stats and yours should give u the answer about what to do in this spot… And if you literally had no reads/hands/stats on him like ever, then you’re really in the blender but should just go with pop reads and just fold range against everyone not named Linus and Stefan😅
@@johngriller4997 yeah this is played on Party so no HUD stats to help with. Always more monsters under the bed without that data :D
love when youre on carrot poker, great analysis for us microstars
thanks, mate. much appreciated.
Assuming it's a range bet there's 99 TT pure and some 88 QJ 76 which totals to around 10 combos let's say Bluffs are hands like 87 which is probably not in this line, JT QT are fairly debatable because they seem like slam dunk calls, so i would expect those not to raise, this leads to a fairly low adjusted bluff combo count. Now, if you make a read about his flop size it gets even worse. His size is going to be heavy on 99 88 AA AK AQ and very very lacking in hands like 87 JT QT. You are COOKED. Nice fold
I would also say hands like A9 A8 seem relatively unintuitive because A blocks bluffs, but again, I think flop size is discounting those hands in the first place and they dont even 3b pure preflop, they can barrel turn on a perceived good card etc
@@DonkOrleone-y7w mannn...I hate being cooked. Thanks for the vote of confidence, Sergio :D
Nit
@@danielcharlton5159 oi! 😅
Looks well played but the river isn’t close imo but an easy fold. Easy to get there with too many traps AA/TT/99 and not a spot people want to bluff in much
@@Jacobson-dp7gg yeah overall I tend to agree
everything seems standard, why make it complex?
he made it seem std but it was indeed complex
Nice fold! Nice bluff with A9ss but I don’t believe anyone find this hand in this spot.
I think it's a stunning fold, well done you beautiful man.
Love the video, Collie! Do you have a discord link?
Thanks! My server right now is for students only, but I might create a public server or section at some point in the near future.
I dont play 2.5k NL but I dont think anyone would find A9 and p7s. The obvious corollary is that he is finding other bluffs that aren't in the solver.
I actually find that these bluffs are pretty natural because they are natural pure checks on the river, and they feel terrible facing a bet, but I don't know if this is average. It's also easy to see that 77 blocks 76s and A9 blocks 99 or T9. Maybe AK is more natural for people, or something but yeah I tend to think they will find these bluffs (if the hands exist for them in the first place)
Agreed @@ColliePoker-re4sx
@@ColliePoker-re4sxthey might find it once in a blue moon but not at the right frequency. Or maybe they will do it too often. That’s why it’s important to have their stats. But based on pop tendencies, humans, even nosebleeds ones way underbluff river raising nodes so this is just a routine “tough” fold if u really had no reads.
What’s your win rate on ACR blitz $1/$2?
10/10
Nice video, I've never realized before how where the range advantage is biggest is where the dominant bet size comes from.
Why did u stop playing on ACR 200nlz dude?
No wonder Peter Clarke mentioned that you are one of his favorite coaches! I was thinking about a theoretical or data driven strategy but this is way better! Keep it up really glad I found your channel will try to practice these pre routine advice. This is the kind of videos you need if you are in extended down swing!
Cool channel just stumbled upon it
@@benjaminlopez9662 thanks man. A lot more frequent content in the works
Great video. Would be cool to see you break down a hand where you take and aggressive action where the villain has a calling and folding range (something like a turn shove semi bluff)
It actually sounds very nice
High notes very Dylan-esque!
Hi Seb. I just have a couple of questions for you. I remember that in one of your early videos for Carrot Corner (it might have been on the Twitch stream) you mentioned that you were struggling at 200NL before getting coaching from Qing Yang. I just wanted to ask, as you climbed the stakes, did you see much of a difference between each stake? Was there a big jump in game difficulty between 100NL and 200NL? I'm not sure what stake you played when you started out. For me personally 50NL specifically has for a long time been the 'glass ceiling' of my own poker career. I've always found that the really low microstakes, specifically 2NL, 5NL and 10NL, are pretty easy to beat by just playing well preflop and not making big punts postflop. There is a slight jump between 10NL and 25NL, but then 50NL is where I think small to medium leaks start to really get exposed. I just see a lot of people getting roadblocked or hardstuck there. I'm not sure if this also happens at higher stakes. I assume it does. I've heard there's another huge jump in difficulty between 200NL and 500NL. Curious if you have any thoughts about this Seb.
I think the jump from 25 to 50 is one of the biggest, but ultimately it's all failure linear. As you move up, you get less fish and less blunders from regs, but the game remains the same. I would say some skills higher stakes players have that lower stakes players lack: know how to checkraise a good range in different spots, learning when and how to float with what hands, raising in 3bp, overbetting more with both low and high equity, valuebetting the river thin, 4betting a balanced range, and protecting the checking range
Bob Dylan :D kinda
Absolutely loved it !!!😁

Well done!

At 9:05 you say that this is a very clear spot for an overbet: I am pretty sure in most BxB lines I've seen (both in theory and in practice) use b75 on river. Are you using multiple sizings on this river? If so what are your OB bluff/value combos looking like? 2P+ for overbet and Kx in b75?
Thanks for answering my questions!
Thanks! Your dog looks so happy! 🤩

love this! please more like that!
Question about the last hand, where you flop the straight on a 4 flush board. You say that he has more flushes on the flop. Why is that?
OOP PFR 3b range contains more offsuit hands because of blocker properties. A fold from IP is a good result, so just having two broadways has added value. IP knows they see a flop if they call, so their range is more condensed around suited cards. There will be some nuance depending on exact board but it's a good rule of thumb
@@ColliePoker-re4sx Cool, thanks!
Hey Sebastien, I’m a member of the Carrot Corner subscription service and I just wanted to say I think you’ve done an amazing job with your videos and I never really put much stock into the mental game training aspect of poker until some of your lectures and content with Pete helped me out a lot with the mental game. I hope your business relationship with Pete continues to go well and we get to see more videos from you on the Carrot Corner in the future. Cheers man 🍻
Thanks so much, mate. It always brings me joy to read a comment like this one. I'm glad the videos have been of help. Definitely will continue to work with Pete! Some things in development. All the best. <3
If I check river, villian B50, and I raise, then V shoves? How does that effect range filtering? Like BTN vs BB, if V never calls a bet he stiil lands on the river with his entire range of opening hands.
The equity threshold for stacks will probably have decreased a bit but not drastically. This is basically a war of delayed traps. What will matter most is if villain is capable of trapping here enough and controlling frequency of bluffs / if villain is capable of finding a 3b river shove as a bluff. Ultimately all your bluffs catchers with decent blockers will call on aggregate at a frequency to render his bluffs indifferent, in theory.
Good stuff bro, love the content
I remember, as a HU SNG player ''back in the day'', solving raw EV equations for push or fold situations by myself. Then eventually I upgraded to Excel spreadsheets. Today I am a very GTO oriented player, but that period still gave me a certain understanding of poker concepts that some young players who just try to memorize solvers don't have.
