Lyrics What your momma done told you six months ago? Keep on your coat and hat, be ready to go. Railroadin and gamblin, pickin up chips for mammy. Lord lord lord! Take your feet out the sand, stick em in the mud! Take your feet out the sand, stick em in the mud! Been in that long house, been down the hall. Been in the courthouse. Worst place of all. Hah! Good one! 😄 Stolen bread is always sweeter. 😉 Song is original?
@fly_speck_cafe Thanks, this is an old Neal Morris song.
@@a.p.rodgers good enough! Some very apt rhyming there.
You're a great communicator for this bro
@@PaxilRose glad to help!

@@CodyWatkins-tj4iw thanks for listenin!
Verra nice! That Hank on your shirt?
@@fly_speck_cafe sure is!
@@a.p.rodgers good man 👍
Oh wow. Your voice is just phenomenal. The algorithm really did work on recommending me this one. Snapped me out of doom scrolling. With all of the death, destruction, and recovery effort happening in Appalachia, it's so easy for me to get caught up in a feedback loop - sometimes it's so bad I just cry until I can't anymore. Thanks for carrying on our traditions and giving me this lullaby I didn't realize I needed. I love how you wove together those lyrics, it somehow feels like every version I've heard at once, but warmer and full of so much heart and soul. Keep it up, brother. Thank you again.
@@vicsexton6199 thank you for listening and your kind words. Sending love in these trying times.
Badass bro. I’ve played guitar for most my life. I’ve always wanted to try banjo. Thanks for sharing

Aw yea, nice one brotha. Your voice is mint 👌
Thanks brother!
This is an old harmony banjo. I put think nylon strings on it. Thanks for watching!
What type of banjo is that? Sounds great.
This is an old harmony resotone with heavy nylon strings. I think the minstrel Aquila brand.
Follow A.P. Rodgers on Spotify, IG, and purchase the new album from Bandcamp! (:
Can I use the clawhammer for modern songs like Country Roads? I only play chords, can I get the 4/4 and 3/4 time easily? Thank you
@tomnelson3362 definitely yes for country roads and most 4/4 songs. You can clawhammer in 3/4 too. It just has a slightly different technique for the rhythm change.
@@a.p.rodgers Thank you for the quick reply. I just strum now as i did on my ukes. I'll being trying your two methods today. Thanks again
Great fucking song
@@MementoVita thanks!!
Excellent points. I agree. Thank you.
One of the few ragtime lessons that gets the rhythm right. Thank you!!!
Great job man!!
@@RandomChessTalk thanks!

I listened to this so much when my ex and I broke up. Strange recovery music, but it really did help me to get her off my mind. This and Georgia Buck were the best. You did me good in that little time of life, thanks A.P.
@skriine6589 thanks! Glad to hear!
You’re gonna be huge one day good sir! Keep going!

I really like this but couldn’t make out the words at some parts…. Could you post lyrics in the description? Maybe a little clip on microphone on your shirt collar to pick up the singing better? Love it!!!

Yeah 👍
What tuning are you in?
@@GavinCbanjo gCGCE, but tuned a few steps down cause I have minstrel strings on this banjo. Dave Macon used that tuning on plenty of recordings, including this one
Railroadin and gamblin... sure some stories there. Nice!
@fly_speck_cafe not sure who wrote this song. The oldest recording I know of is Uncle Dave Macon.
Just like old times again.
