I just took the XP Deus 2 with the nine inch coil out in the back yard. I did the nail test and put the quarter in the mix and had no problem in finding the quarter. It rang in loud and clear.

Manticore has a serious falsing issue.

I bought a lot of metal detectors over the years. So far my favorite is the deus2 but I have not tried a lot of these newer ones. I can't believe how many people get their feelings hurt over these videos

The new Garrett Vortex aka “Smurf machine” is a disaster! Doesn’t even compete with Minelabs entry level machines. Garrett cost cutting all over this machine with the same coil/headphones as the 15 year old at pro. If only Garrett spent as much money on product development as celebrity colaberations they may have been competitive. Garrett is going downhill fast.

Good video. You really did get a lot of interesting reactions here in the comment section! The Vortex may end up being pretty awesome for a reasonable price. We'll just have to wait and see.

Well PT Barnum proven right again. You were duped by a garret video. How many places you hunt with BRAND NEW nails scattered about? And did you notice how they were ARRANGED? He didnt just throw them down lol, they were placed very particularly and he swang from 1 direction only. Take a Manticore and a Vortex and go hunt some real world sites, and I bet you find out you get what you pay for.

This is not acceptable. You cannot throw down nails and a quarter and say the Manticore fails next to a Vortex when you dont even own the Vortex first. Next Garret arranged those nails so the Vortex would hit the quarter! You i am sure did not lay the nails out exactly the same then detect from the same direction with the sweep. Had they turned 90 degrees in the Garret video i am willing to garrantee the Vortex would not see the quarter anymore. The only way you can compare this is with both detectors in your hands on the same extact setup for both. Turn one off pick up the other and try. Next you never changed direction of your sweep. I get lots of silver coins and one direction i get a perfect signal and turn 90 and it vanishes dur to iron. If you moved one of your nail that could change the entire thing. Or walk around swinging over the target until you hit the sweet spot where the quarter pops. Thats exactly what Garret did. They found the sweet spot to sweep over that cluster of nails where it would pick up the quarter. You never changed your sweep direction or changed the layout of the nails. I can detect a silver dime with a rusty square nail laying directly on a sivler coin! But only in one direction! On a 90 sweep the nail blanks the silver coin out. I spin 90 more and boom silver is back. They factors here are huge. The only way you could make a case is to have the Vortex right there with you to test your setup side by side. Not toss a handfull of nails and a quarter down and say you got ripped off. Rediculous. Garrets video is set up to make the Vortex look its best. Clearly you know this right? They found an arrangement for the nails and the perfect sweep for it to hit. When i seen that Garret clip i starting laughing! Those nails where brand new first of all. So clean metal easier gor the machine to detect. Next the nails where an easy 2" away from the coin all the way around! Next they had them laying vertical on each side of the quarter or close to it. The mchine had a 2" gap on each side with vertical brand new not rusty nails. Then they swept in that perfect direction. Boom perfect signal to sell gullible folks that this works. A parlor trick setup perfect for the video. I can replicate this no problem with any machine i own. And i have all the current top machines including the Manticore. They Manticore, Deus 2, and Legend will hit the quarter from any direction with a 2" spacing all the way around the coin. I would have been impressed just like i am with the 3 machines i mentioned if they had layed a nail on the coin and detected it. And no none will detect that coun with a RUSTY bent nail laying on or next to or even above the silver coun from all directions. But it will from most of the way around with a specific spot giving a great signal and the 90 oppsite sweep giving NO signal. These tests have to be conducted with both machines side by side on the exact same scenario. Not what you set up at home with your machine vs a video put together by the people selling and hyping up the newest detector they want to sell. Just think about this a little bit. I highly recommend you delete this video and really spend some time learning about your Manticore and how it works. You said stabilizer wasn't working at all. I can hear the stabilizer working perfectly in the sound. Which is where it has an affect. It has no affect on the tdi value or the 2d screen. Which you clearly don't know anything about. Stabilizer was working fine. Please delete this video. Start over and think about how you are trying to compare these machines.

You need to learn how to use the Manticore better before badmouthing it.

You didnt compare anything. You watched a 10 sec video then complained for 15 minutes. Sell your manticore and buy a vortex. Then, stop crying.

I think you have enough answers to your question. Your American commentors seem to have done a pretty good job of explaining where you appear to be going wrong.if I were you I'd set your machine back to default and sit down and go through the online manual. Lots of people make the mistake of putting utube settings in before they know the machine , yours seems to be a classic example but if you keep your machine on factory settings it should work fine until you get your head round what the machines telling you.one more thing your watching an official garret video , ask yourself this, they tested the machine on low reactivity, why didn't they test it on the fastest, ask yourself that.id wait until you see the like of iffy or calabash doing some testing before I'd part with any any of my hard earned on this garret junk!.

After posting my first D2 comment, what the heck... I might as well nail test my Legend with the latest update. Total fail! Even with fast reactivity, I was not able to knock out the nails and hit the coin. Even with the machine wide open and hearing the iron nails, the coin was masked. This is surprising. I thought all these newer machines passed a simple nail test? Unless I'm doing something wrong, as a beach hunter, I would not hear a big gold ring near iron😮 Ledgend users, when in Beach, multi wet, what settings would pass this nail test, yet still work in wet salt sand?

The ground was dirty. You were getting signals before you ever put the nails down.

User error: You are near a large fence with tracking ground balance turned on, several times throughout the video when you look at your ground balance setting it is ranging from 30-90. By swinging near that large fence you are messing up your ground balance because you have tracking on. Also, you aren't recreating the Garrett's Vortex test because you are using different nails in different orientations which can have a significant impact on unmasking, so without a Vortex in your hand you couldn't assume the Vortex would hit it either.

Oh my oh my! This inspired me to try this simple test with my Deus 2. It passed easily in most of the factory programs! Even when directly on top of a nail! Even harder in my saved programs! I've been experimenting with all Deus settings/combinations, and one setting that has my attention is the Magnetic accept/reject. Set to reject, the nails remain silent and the quarter bangs hard! So does the Manticore have a similar setting?😮

Also I have several used CtX’s to choose from on a trade.

The falsing was due to a combination of not adjusting the upper ferrous limits to encompass the majority of signals from the iron, having the sensitivity too high and swinging too fast. Stay with All Terrain General, start at sensitivity 20 and long press noise cancel. Reduce sensitivity until the falsing decreases, 15-18 is usually fine. Recovery 3 should be OK. Try again and report if improved.

What are your ferrous limits set to? If the target is in the light grey you’ll hear it - iron or a coin. Tweak this until the nail response is gone. Also not sure it makes a difference but hold down the noise cancel til it has a stable number. Seems to me we need a target bias in addition to a ferrous bias

I have personally been at this metal detecting for well over 20 years and in fact started back in the 90s. I personally am not impressed with any of these so called high tech cell phone on a stick detectors, I use four Beep and Digs that absolutely spank these so called high tech detectors in Unmasking targets, recovery speed and depth they will see a target and call that target what it is Non Ferrous or ferrous at depth, my beep and digs have very few settings to mess with and they impress me every time I go out and detect with one, and yes I have a few of those so called higher tech detectors none of them have impressed me I currently own a Legend, a couple of the Nox detectors and a few other so called higher tech detectors and as I stated none of those so called higher tech detectors have impressed me at all. That is what has my interest peaked on this new Vortex is the fact that it has very few settings that can be changed from all appearances, people want to tell you how you do not know what you are doing with a detector, no that is wrong its not that someone does not know what they are doing its the fact that these new High Tech so called top of the line whiz bang detector are incapable of doing what a good old beep and dig can do I have already put in an order for one of the new Vortex VX9s and I am looking forward to seeing what this new Vortex can actually do in the unmasking of targets an in the depth department

I'd advise you to watch calabash digger friend, your just showing your inability to work the machine properly. Thousands of manticore users love the machine. I suggest you by your garnett as its a turn on and go machine which would seem suitable for your experience with detectors.

No disrespect but it’s a hard pass for me, I’ll stay with Minelab or Notka

I have a vortex coming. I'll be putting my deus 2 away and will be playing with the Vortex. The main reason the Vortex is interesting to me is the limited adjustments needed. Turn it on and go

I'm not a fan boy of any detector company. But I have to say that the Vortex provided a much more diggable tone.

I'm sorry about the quality of the inserted video from Garrette I had trouble trying to patch the original in my video and had to use a recorded one instead My 1st attempt at video editing and though my patience is not high at all so I got frustrated and did the best I could with limited time. Just wanted to make my point that a $1700 detector could not detect a quarter among nails like the Vortex could along with my White”s 6000 di/pro metal detecting since the 80’s We’re just a husband & wife on a horse farm fostering children for the last 10 years trying to get by Thank you all & God Bless
