The Locomotive Engineer

Welcome to my channel! I'm The Locomotive Engineer, and I make 3D CAD models of locomotives and trains.
I am a graduate of Virginia Tech's Mechanical Engineering program, and my day job is in telecommunications, helping to design fiber-optic cabling routes. My true love, however, is modeling historical and contemporary locomotives using modern digital design software. It's been mostly a personal hobby for many years, but I wanted to try my luck at starting a RUclips channel to see if I could start sharing my passion with others.

Farewell to the Silver Star
#amtrak #railroad #train
Amtrak's Silver Star ran between Miami and New York City for over 50 years, between 1971 and 2024. Compared to the Northeast Regional fleet, it ran with a wide variety of equipment; and unlike its sister long-distance train, the Silver Meteor, it ran at a good time of day for photos and videos. As a result, it became one of my favorite Amtrak trains to catch around Fredericksburg.
After the end of Silver Star service earlier this month, I decided to compile some of my favorite videos of the train from across the years. Featuring Dash 8's, heritage units, and even an N-scale P42, these are some of my most interesting encounters with one of my favorite trains. Enjoy!...

NKP 190 Test Video

Work continues on my full NKP 190 history video, but I liked my test animations enough that I figured I would upload them as a "work in progress" sequence. They're a little rough around the edges, but considering that these are some of my first 3D animations, I think they turned out pretty nice. 0:00 Introduction 0:20 View I - Santa Fe 62L-A-B 0:50 View II - Santa Fe Frame 1:26 View III - D&H 1...
Extra HORSEpower on CSX Rails...

As the P40 and P42 fleets continue to decompose with age and the new Chargers have yet to supplant them, Amtrak often finds itself in need of a little help on its Northeast Regional trains these days. Most of the time, the Dash 8's and Chargers are enough to scrape together a functional consist, but in the past few weeks NS has been lending some locomotives towards the effort, too. Yesterday wa...
A Shenandoah Steam Chase
Просмотров 267Год назад
It's been a while since my last non-short-form video, so a weekend encounter with classic N&W steam streamliner No. 611 seemed like a good excuse to finally sit down and finish one! I have seen 611 a few times before - even twice under steam! - but I never got to see it out on the mainline where it belongs during its time on Norfolk Southern. With the Buckingham Branch/Virginia Scenic Railway f...

Modeling Amtrak's "Day 1" Heritage Unit #Amtrak50
I work a job next to an Amtrak/NS line, and I was lucky to see it pass by on its final run. It was very special to me, but my boss had no clue until I told him how cool it actually was 😅
@@shoobsey My co-workers have also been getting a gradual education in trains over the years that I've been working with them 😁
It was not fully replaced, it's only temporary!
Fair enough. A lot can change in two years, though.
I was totally unaware that the Silver Star has replaced its service with Floridian now. At least I got some good amount of footage videos while I was in North Carolina, and I even in fact road on them at least a few times as well!
@@JimLiElevators To be fair, the Floridian's consist is pretty much the same as the Star's, and the schedule has not drastically changed either, so nothing looks a whole lot different trackside.
Yes. I had to operate the train before with an old GE freight unit on Sante Fe RR
Not extra! Amtrak unit failure. Freight unit needed to continue trip till Amtrak can replace it with another one of their units. Also speed restrictions apply with freight unit. I'm a retired Amtrak engineer out of Los Angeles and Albuquerque 😊😂
@@RobertColeman-pp9hs I suspected that was probably the case, but I still wanted to use the horse pun for the title haha 🤣
Lumiii!
Where's Part 2?
LIE-veries? WHAT?!
Wow I'm in love ❤
Nice vid

Nice I got it at Fredericksburg
i remember that the other guy said he exploded from foaming
I hate running passenger cars.
I know this location Chattanooga TN tvrm
Despite the clearly industrial carbody, FMs were great commuter locomotives. The acceleration was almost unparalleled.
Very cool! The level of detail is great, and for "test" animations, they work nicely. Also, you have a great narrator voice 🙂
I re-recorded the voice-over like four different times before I was relatively satisfied
❤❤❤❤❤
Do you have d-51?
