Whats the name for that type of pants?

I’m currently making a maxi bandanna dress from all different bandanna’s, no green ones in mine. When I finish that one I need to make one like this. I bought enough red bandanna to make a dress, and enough blue bandanna’s to make a dress. Maybe I should make one with red and blue bandanna’s.

I’m not sure how to ask this question correctly, but how come you can trim down to the pattern without your stitches coming out? I don’t know much abt sewing, sry if it’s a silly question. Lovely video!
