How to Prioritise Tasks Effectively (Using the Eisenhower Matrix, Pareto, Eat that Frog and more)
There are many strategies for prioritising but, if you look carefully, you will see that they all boil down to the same thing.
Whether using the Eisenhower matrix, or the Pareto principle, or following Brian Tracey's advice to "Eat that frog!" there is a common goal.
The simple truth at the heart of prioritising is: Do the most important task first. Or as Stephen Covey says, "Put first things first."
This video looks in more detail at how we can do this in practice.
If you want more information, do check out the accompanying article using this link:

What is a Mission or Success Statement and Why Do You Need One
Просмотров 5065 месяцев назад
A mission statement expresses what we are striving for; it should be a clear and concise statement of what success looks like. Being busy is not enough; it counts for nothing if there is not some deeper purpose. We need to know exactly what we are trying to achieve. A really good mission or success statement should be memorable and measurable. This video helps you to think about and create your...
What is a Vision Statement and Why are They Important
Просмотров 2426 месяцев назад
A vision statement is a picture or dream of a better future. This is important as dreams can be powerful things if we choose to make them a reality. Henry Ford had an impassioned idea of a motorcar that would be affordable for the average family and he designed the Model T Ford. Edmund Hillary dreamed of climbing the highest mountain on earth and he and Tenzing Norgay were the first men to stan...

How to Define Your Personality with the Big 5 Traits (OCEAN) Test
Просмотров 2 тыс.6 месяцев назад
How would you describe your personality? What makes up your character? When it comes to the psychology of personality people often talk about either types or traits. The difference between traits and types reflects the distinction between analogue and digital. Personality type theory is more digital, saying that something either is or isn’t of a certain sort. For example, a test using the ‘type...
Burnout: How to Spot the Signs and Avoid Getting Mentally and Physically Burnt Out

Burnout is brought on by mental and physical exhaustion. This can be brought on by living or working in a stressful situation. This can result in feeling drained of energy, mentally trapped and physically ill. Ignoring such signs can make things even worse, and the best course of action is to create a balance in life to avoid getting burnt out in the first place. We can think about our mental a...
How do You Make Good Decisions and Choose the Best Course of Action
Просмотров 1487 месяцев назад
One of the biggest challenges of decision-making is generating, assessing, and then choosing from among the different solutions there are to any given challenge. That might be buying a car, choosing a property or changing jobs but if the choice has a large impact on time and money then we are likely to spend longer considering our options and working out the best course of action. To help make ...
7 Steps to Developing High Performing Teams

Research has shown that a group must progress through certain development stages to become a high-performing team. A leader is responsible for managing this process, but it is one that affects us all, no matter our role, and we can all assist in improving our teams. Have you ever set yourself a goal that you have been unable to achieve? I certainly have. Choosing to do something is generally easier than the practice of actually carrying out our decision. Wow! I understand why Socrates is regarded as a great thinker. He didn't bother with trying to win an argument or discussion, he was trying to find the truth. That is why he could drill down into what people were saying without getting them angry or resulting in an argument.

Breaking through? Try breaking through to the people who listen to the mainstream media, and it's constant onslaught of lies about the people who support Trump. We are not all sychophants, we come from all walks of life, we are often highly successful, and educated. What we don't do, is melt down at the mere mention of a political rival, or call people who disagree, threats to democracy. Trump is representative of a feeling that our government no longer gives a crap about the small business owners, or trades people, or the working class, in general. If a Biden supporter were to be in the same room as myself, or others that I know, we would not melt down with unchecked hysteria, or narcissistic rage. Of that, I am certain. So engage in good faith dialectical conversation, you know, the type of exchange, that doesn't denigrate, prejudge, stereotype, or revolve around presumptuous sophistry. Believe what you will, but take great care to to not presume to narrative build, off of hearsay, or the parroting of second hand information, of questionable veracity.

It can do. Many people have written using a Socratic approach to debate issues (take the letters and essays of C S Lewis as an example), and the original Socratic dialogues are in written form (captured by Plato) which are definitely worth checking out. There are lots but Gorgio, Meno and Apology are good places to start.

If the key is accurate, those with conceptual senses cannot condition a stronger sense, but can better learn to understand the concepts. The Socratic method only works in settings where both people are mature enough to have a conversation. In today’s society we can’t even accomplish that in the United States Congress. Sadly, I think the purity of the Socratic method may be dead.

    • @therightquestions1
      @therightquestions1 Месяц назад

I agree that it does require both parties to be mature to work best. It is also worth noting that the original Socratic dialogues often did not have a receptive party. Part of Socrates's mission was to challenge wrong or lazy political, personal and philosophical thinking, so there is hope!

This is a good theory but in real life my experience is that organisational leaders are usually evil because modern employers are psychopathic and you have to be a machiavellian narcissist to progress to the top. Of course, those at the top will hire consultants that tell them nice things about themselves as part of the propaganda programme and self-mythologising. Positive psychology, including self-help, is often about putting the focus on the possibility of personal change, to take attention away from intractable systemic injustice. A neat presentation of the ideas, tho. Thanks.
