Oh so glad i seen your video. I read near the bone last year and really enjoyed it does get more horific as it goes on however glad read subjective. Go on you for dnf'ing . Oh boy are you in for a time with Where I End! Much more horror than psychological thriller 😉 Other end of that spectrum, there. I loved it but WOOF it is gnarly! Looking forward to your take on that intense novel!

I also read The Rachel Incident in 2024 and really enjoyed it, it was an excellent character development story!

This year was such an underwhelming reading year for me but also an underwhelming year for releases. That being said, my top 1 book of the year is the wedding people! For those wanting to read it i would definitely look up trigger warnings though

I read I Who Have Never Known Men this year and was totally blown away. Still think of it often. Definitely in my top 3.

Amor Towles is an auto-buy author for me. You’re going to love his other works too!

I read 127 books this year! a new record - also new record for page count, so it wasn't just a bunch of shorties lol there were some chonkers in there. lots of bangers! a handful of re-reads. 30 all time faves if I count a series as "one". my goal was just 100 pages a day and definitely did that. not for any competition or ego thing, it's just there are SO many books I want to read! 😅 I read on all my work breaks, frequently listen to audiobooks on my daily 3 mile walks, and read for multiple hours a day during my free time because I don't have TV (just RUclips on my phone).. annnnd I don't have a family or busy social life (if at all)... that definitely plays a factor. oh! also reading a lot from the library and DNF'g ruthlessly helps too 😂

I was also disappointed in this one. I read this as a dysfunctional family centered around a narcissistic mother and distant father. The sister was the golden child, the twin brother was the invisible child, and MC was the scape goat. In those families, it becomes survival for the other children to also blame the scape goat. It would also make sense that the MC would choose an emotionally immature partner who might see her unwillingness to engage in silly arguments/some emotional detachment as “darkness”. He seemed pretty self centered when he showed up in the end. MC’s constant attempts to not rock the boat seemed like an attempt at grey rocking. Anywho, I signed up to be scared, not to endure family drama, so it was a no for me.

I enjoyed hearing your insights. I never read 100 in one year but when I reflect back on the year I read the most…I remember only a handful in any kind of meaningful way. That always proves to be a solid reminder about where my priorities should be when I’m feeling the arbitrary pressure to meet a numeric goal. Happy new year! May 2025 bring you more meaningful bookish experiences (even if it costs you a bit numerically, haha).😊

Great Review!! I agree that it's not for everyone and I also agree that its impossible to talk about intermezzo without bringing up past Sally books, although i really did enjoy Intermezzo because of the insights and how connected I felt with the characters, despite not relating. The grief aspect of the book however hit hard and was very accurate. I guess, as with any book, it depends on where you are in your life and how it relates back.

I clicked on this video so fast, lol. I've never read 100 books in a year and I don't think I ever will, unless my reading pace changes. I hear you on this being a subpar reading year... also, the pressure to read new releases constantly is real. It's definitely easy to get caught up in it all and rush to read the new release and then move onto the next, (speaking from my own experience, but mirrors your thoughts quite a bit) then the book ends up being just ok and I'm like, what was all the rush/pressure to read this for..? You always provide really great insight into books and well-rounded reviews. Regardless if they are new-release or backlist, it's something I really appreciate watching and getting recommendations from your vids. I hope next year is a better reading year for you, sounds like we both will be aiming to read more mindfully 😊 Happy holidays!!

I didn't really care for The God of the Woods either.. I liked Long Bright River though!

I enjoyed The Lion Women of Tehran, as I did her other book The Stationery Shop. btw from what I remember it's more of a dual timeline than multiple generational.

I was so excited to read A Djinn Waits a Hundred Years... got half way through and DNFd. It was so boring and the djinn barely even had a part.. too bad because I love djinn stories. Now I do like slower more gothic vibes leaning stories but that one was just not it. Thankfully I read it from the library!

I didn’t enjoy phantom of the opera either. I found it so hard to understand and needed to read a summary after each chapter 😂 The silent film is really really good! Have you seen that??

Another book I should have mentioned in this video is RAZORBLADE TEARS by SA Cosby. It focuses on racial injustice, poverty in America, and LGBT+ themes!

So fun to hear your thoughts on these! I have read pretty much all backlist books this year so I don’t think I’ve read anything on this list. How cool that they have an audiobook category! It’s probably just more of a judge of the voice narrator performances because if I rated my top favorite audiobooks they would definitely be different than my top favorite books of the year.
