Allerding Family - Urban Homesteading
Добавлен 31 мар 2021
Hello and welcome to my channel. My name is Heather Allerding. I am a homesteader, wife, and stay at home mom of 4 children.
We, the Allerding family, are homesteaders. We drive to produce anything and everything to thrive. We live on almost 1 acre in a small city in Michigan. About every square inch of our 1 acre is dedicated to the production of a diverse set of plants and animals and creating places of beauty and play.
I am an avid DIYer with the goal of being as self-reliant as possible, being self-sufficient, cutting costs, and living closer to nature.
I have always wanted to live an "off grid." However, living in a city makes it challenging. But I do find ways to try to live off the grid to a certain extent.
We just created a Facebook page, so feel free to follow there, too. profile.php?id=100090673017518&mibextid=ZbWKwL

Turn Sap Into Syrup - Easy
Просмотров 187Год назад
Turn your sap into maple syrup by simply boiling the sap until enough water is removed and you are left with pure maple syrup. This process generates a lot of steam so it may be worth doing it outside if you can because your kitchen can quickly fill with steam. Light your stove or turn it on and let your sap boil away. My way of turning sap into syrup is simple and easy to do with no extra gadg...

The BEST $35 DIY Sun Solar Oven - Easy To Make
Просмотров 51 тыс.2 года назад
Manufactured solar cookers can cost in the hundreds of dollars, but you can build one yourself and adjust it to suit your needs for around $35 (or sometimes a little more). I have read a lot about these ovens and some say the inside should be all black. Some say it should be reflective. One scientific study said either one works. So that's why I handmade this oven, without any blueprints or ins...

DIY Solar Sun Oven - The Ultimate To Baking
Просмотров 3,8 тыс.2 года назад
This afternoon project let's you cook off the grid with a sun-fueled oven hot enough to bake bread, cookies, and so much more. This solar oven project isn't expensive, and makes use of scraps you might have laying around. #homesteading #homemade #sunoven #solaroven #ultimate #baking
How deep is the cooker? Was temp in °F or °C. What is the highest temp it has reached? It is a good sized cooker for a family. And you can put lots of baking in it.
Thanks for showing how you did this! Good job! I think i would want casters so I could roll it around. It looks heavy. Do you still use it?
what kind of food have you made in it and at what time of the year? How many hours did it take? Did you add wheels to the botttom just in case you had to move it to follow the sun for food that had to use more sun time then one spot accommodated? Thankyou for showing us how to do just about all of the steps. why did you skip showing us how to make the bottom of it? I don't have any idea how that part was done, but I guess I could use a solid peice of wood so I don't have to risk the chance of not creating a sturdy bottom. Does this solar oven work in the winter as well or is this model ideal for summer sun only?
If you use terracotta tiles as the base in there, would that help hold the heat in the oven box?
👍
I saved a discarded end table and plan to convert it into this. The nice thing is that it has legs to keep it elevated off the ground, which will make it easier for me to use with an outdoor chair. I'll remove the top and re-install it with hinges. Or, I might just leave the drawer in it to add/remove a cookpot or baking pan. Great idea and thought-provoking video! Thanks! 😎👍
Did you make reflectors?
Thanks!❤
SHE ADDED A MIRROR TO GET MORE SUN FOR HEAT . BECAUSE THE BOX ONLY GETS HALF OF SUN LIGHT.. WITH THE MIRROR REFLECTON THE OTHER HALF IN THE BOX..
A firefighter for 14 years and I'm proud of this job🫡🫡🫡
Thank you for showing where to find these items and how much everything cost!
Great job! Thanks for sharing! I am tired of using these crappy incubators from China. I lost over 30 Silkie eggs in my last hatch and discovered it was getting up to 108 degrees!
sick vid
Thank you so much for sharing this video! It's great to see some serious baking in a solar oven. I like to bake in the summer, but can't stand making the whole house hot, and I also want to use free energy, so I'm considering building one myself. This video was really helpful!
Cook something
other than aesthetics, do you really need to paint the oven / the bottom with high heat paint?
Why do you spray paint the inside? Does that help somehow? Thank you. May Jesus continue to bless you and your family
Black reflects less = more heat
I noticed that you are using glass bakeware. Can you use metal pans?
Awesome design
I would like also to see it working and i would like to know in which part of the world you are located
Heat will increase quicker if you point the sun at the black bottom of the box and not the food directly. It's the black bottom that heats the box as that's where the sunlight is absorbed. You could maybe test it and see how things go.
Well done, thanks for sharing...
Thanks sis! Great video! And great job on your solar oven thanks for the inspiration!
Well done 😅
Nice job! If the box stays the same could it easier to use by having a internal rack that would bring pans closer to window? This would possibly reduce the need to relocate the box? Your thoughts? Carter Canada
Thank you. Great job. (Just please promote wearing shoes/boots/ when using a saw/cutting wood.😊)
I don’t know about that paint
Why paint?
I’m so impressed with your building and cooking too. New subscriber! 👍🏽
This is not correct. There needs to be foil where the glass is attached to and glass on the covered area...its meant to reflect and trap the sun inside.
How long did it take to cook your food?
Great video! I watched the one where you made you sun oven also. I've been solar cooking for many years using panel cookers and more recently a small GoSun vacuum tube cooker. They all have cooked well but I've wanted to make own more in the style you used to cook more food at once. I think I'm going to borrow your ideas and make one very similar to yours. It's a great set up and you've done well.
Why did you paint the bottom black?
The bottom is painted black so the light (heat) isn't reflected back and out of the oven. Black absorbs heat; light colours reflect heat.
Does the food taste like paint?
Thank you!
You're using toxic paint in an area that gets hot. This causes the paint to gas off in to the food.
High temperature stove paint is not toxic. To be sure, any oven should be heated empty for a full day to gass off any possible chemical residues.
Achei muito bacana o vídeo descrevendo todo processo
When making your videos please use landscape is very difficult to see what you're doing on a regular cellphone video thank you
Amazing! I will be building one soon! Great video
How does it work? What have you. Cooked and how long did it take?
What the temperature inside the oven, you forgot to say😮nice work by the way ❤
Does a sun oven work well if it’s sunny but cold? I live in Idaho.
Yes, if it's well insulated
Base construction is simple! I love it.. Keeps the door open for modifications. I would add the lazy susan and add reflective wings and make them adjustable too. Great vid. TY > Bob SaTx.
You are very good at what you are doing. I will definitely try your inventions. Love it!!
Well I went looking for more videos and realized there were none. 😢 I hope all is well with you and your family and that soon you will share some more with us. I really enjoyed what you shared so far.
Great tips here!
This is awsome! I would love to try it. An incubator is not in my budget right now so this would be perfect. I am using a friend's right now as I hatch chicks for the first time.
I noticed you are using a mirror to reflect tne sunlight into the oven. I dont think you mentioned that in your video.
I have only one problem with the food you've cooked in your sun oven. I didn't get to taste any ! 👍
Beyond impressive!
