Sambar deer honking back at Flexmark
Просмотров 1472 года назад
I was walking along the fringe country at last light and got honked by a sambar. I tried calling it in closer but as we couldn’t see each other this resulted in a conversation for roughly 10 minutes. No shot was taken but some incredible audio and responses from the deer.

Raw unedited footage from our latest hunt. No deer visible in the footage but clearly can hear several honks in response to our calls. Shot was taken but unfortuantely missed. Thought it would be worthwhile to share some cool audio!
Sambar Butchering at home

With some help Ben breaks down the deer he guided Ben to in our previous video. This just shows some of the actual work that goes into preparing your kill for the table. Obviously we are not experts and continue to learn more every time. We have found the using the blunt dissection method of butchering we have a greater yield of meat. We like to use each part of the animal for the following: - ...

100% that first shot passed through the hind and hit the yearling to Look how it reacts.

You're using a caller that sounds like a fawn, and a samba keeps honking. I thought the honk was an alert, indicating it was onto you, rather than a call to a lost fawn. What do you think?

I’ve had lots of mixed reactions from the sambar with the flexmark. Managed to call them in like a fox, make them sit or even bring them back in when they’ve started to leave. I think in this instance the deer smelt me or saw some rapid movement on the edge of the paddock. It was on last light and there was plenty of thick bush in front of me so visibility was very poor. I honestly think we were playing a game of who wants to pop their head out first haha. Had this go on for quite a while so I think it was definitely calling me over as a young one. If you check out our synchro shot video mate you can see the hind charging down the hill looking for another young one was pretty excited! Also went for a hunt there recently and bumped a couple that scented me and no honk, used the caller and they just trotted off so all changes. Hope that all makes sense!

Why are you in the open for ? I would of thought getting in around that tree near where you bag is for some concealment would of been best practice?

All good mate and probably hard to see terrain properly in the video. Where my bag was is a dam wall probably 5m high so I wouldn’t be able to see anything from there. My brother was to the right of me and up on the dam wall lying down so he had that field of view covered. I stayed down low in case the deer worked it’s way around the dam towards where there is a frequent game trail and wallow. Had the ability to cover multiple areas so I just stayed put with the camera. Hope that makes sense!
