My favourite road to drive our Caterham 7 sports car in Lancashire.

A 3 min beat along my favourite country road in Lancashire (Jackson Heights Rd). It is a great road with turns, twists and incredible views. It puts some of the better known 'top driving routes' to shame.

Even in December we found a chance to take the Caterham up to the Lake District and visit the Lakeland Motor Museum. A great museum with an impressive collection of classic cars, motorbikes ands pedal bikes. #caterham7 #caterham #classiccar #lakedistrict #lakelandmotormuseum #museum #motormuseum #roadtrip

Our first Track Day with the great team at Javelin Trackdays at Blyton Park Track and Driving Centre. After some pro-racing driver instruction in the morning we took to the track on our here. We have just added a couple of laps for a taster. All footage shot with GoPro Hero 10 on the roll bar and Hero 12 facing us. Music is from epidemic sound. www.blytonpark.co.uk javelintrackdays.co.uk
We drove our Caterham 7 in very heavy rain!
Просмотров 3,2 тыс.11 месяцев назад
So what it is like to drive a Caterham 7 in very heave rain? We drove ours back from a track day across the M62 during a very heavy downpour which flooded parts of the motorway. Hopefully you'll see the drive isn't too back at all. We had a half hood fitted to our car for the drive. Our car is a 120 Roadsport which we bought from @turn7caterham and we would love you to check out their RUclips a...
First time with a Caterham 7 Half-Hood
Просмотров 1,7 тыс.11 месяцев назад
It started raining heavily so we broke out the Caterham 7 Half-Hood whilst heading home on the M62. What did we think of it, how did we react for the first time? Well this is just a couple of minutes with us before we actually hit the motorway again.

We are taking our Caterham 7 on a track day with Javelin Trackdays very soon and shared a few thoughts about what we are looking forward to. Of course, as we were already out in the Caterham we enjoyed the open roads whilst the weather was good. The team at Javelin were brilliant in helping us book the day and they are at javelintrackdays.co.uk/trackdays/

We used the mild weather as an excuse to get out for another Sunday breakfast this time at a Bikers Cafe in Poulton-le-Fylde in Lancashire. Some great country roads led to a brilliant cafe which serves a proper breakfast with mugs of tea and coffee ... perfect for a Sunday treat. Brew n Sprocket is at The Old Coal Yard, Hall Gate Ln, Preesall, Poulton-le-Fylde FY6 0PJ

Carry on camping 😂
Hi mr grogan
3 and 2 and 1 planners out please
Would much rather have engine note and light commentary (if needed?) than the distracting music to such a good visual clip.
You beat me to it 👍
Is this the Haslingden grain road----I'll be going over it on Thursday in a van though asapose to possibly the best drivers car of all time----😅😅 my modified mx5 would like it though 😊.
Nice video. Whereabouts in Lancashire were you?
It is Jackson Heights Road just outside Accrington and heading to Bolton.
@@soweboughtacaterham Cool, I live near Barrowford. Have owned two Caterhams previously but don’t have one at the moment.
Yo
In a few weeks time I will be driving my first Caterham , purchased from T7, looking forward to it, thanks again for posting your Videos.
Hope you enjoyed it - T7 really have been great to us.
This might help you out, Helikon-Tex SWAGMAN ROLL PONCHO - Nylon I brought myself a Helikon-Tex PATRIOT JACKET - DOUBLE FLEECE BLACK
Buy a Caterham than having therapy with a physiatrist, for me I would have to take out the spare seat.
If your tyres are capable, what's the problem?
I'm glad you found it all super shiny 😊
brings back great memories of our visit to this Museum in June of 2022 during a Lake District vacation all the way from Texas. We took some truly harrowing roads/passes in a rental Peugeot, some only wide enough for 1 car, with rock walls and nearly sheer cliffs just on the other side. Stayed in Appleby Castle for a few days, then on to Grassington, then York, then home. Wonderful country, would love to experience some of those B roads in a Caterham! Cheers
A friend of my brother had a 7 and went to Monaco and there are Ferraris and Lambos, but everyone was ignoring them and was interested in the 7.
Another great place to visit!
Hey Guys, nice vid! I think I'll have a trip up to this museum next year when it warms up a bit. Ciao.
🤣 P r o m o S M
I prefer sunny days to be honest!! ruclips.net/video/rejxD5MZ_cA/видео.html
Thanks for the post, well done and very informative for people likes of myself who are considering purchasing a Caterham .
Thanks Jeff. We’ve honestly loved it! None of the creature comforts but so so so much fun.
You should buy a Patagonia or Moncler jacket! They are way thinner and warmer than what you're wearing in that video, this would clear some room for you :) I personally love driving in the rain, but where I live, it's almost never raining... and most people don't even know how to drive on a wet road!
At least you guys have doors! My Westfield has a full cage and I have a half hood, but no doors! It’s quite a challenge to keep the windscreen clean from the inside with the water drops all over the place!🤦🏻♂️
We did the same thing, but in brooklands configuration. And for a whole day.
love you guys
I always drove through rain, wearing a cap. On the motorway in hail, rain etc all goes over the top especially if the tonneau is on. Enjoy.
A Caterham is the benchmark for all sports cars, bar none. People see others driving a car like this with the hood down especially in the winter and think the drivers are eccentrics, but they really don’t know what they’re missing; the speed, the dynamics, the uniqueness & specialness of the whole experience, the ritual of getting in and out & harnessing up & how every journey becomes an adventure especially hood down. When I had mine, I genuinely felt that the natural cruising speed of a 7 is 90mph. While a 7 is a very quick car, it’s as much about the other factors as described above, along with ‘it’s not how fast the car goes, it’s how the car goes fast’. Hood down, doors & full tonneau on, an open road, it’s truly driving nirvana. If you need more power (which you do) then ‘super sport’ it with an new ECU & cams. Enjoy.
Why buy a Caterham 7? Aside from superb driving dynamics and the fun factor, it will take 10 years off each of you - what’s not to love?
I also drove mine back when i bought it in the pouring rain. I use the full hood, a bit tricky to put up but it does keep you totally dry and toasty inside - i do have to slightly undo the zip on the rear screen to help it demist though. Love the videos, keep them coming.
I really enjoyed your film, thanks. Sounded like a similar experience my wife and I had with our Lotus Elise. I am 65 and getting in out can be challenging but the reward once moving makes me forget it instantly. We likewise enjoy people stopping to ask what it is and walking past far more expensive cars to look at ours. We took it to a local car show and I let every child walking by sit in it as they really enjoyed the car. Probably not proper for a car show as the guys next to me looked nervous some one might want to sit in theirs too, but I wanted the young ones to have fun and maybe sew the seeds for some future car lovers. Enjoy your car and the fun lifestyle !
Lovely! Glad you're enjoying the car properly. Little request - could you turn the motion-smoothing off on the camera? That "gentle" motion makes some people (like myself) quite ill watching it. Whereas a camera fixed rigidly to the car is totally fine. Ta.
I picked up my first Caterham in similar conditions. Good to see it getting proper use!
My wife won't go near it 😒
Sounds like a man cave, but mobile and noisier.
Caterhams ARE beautiful! 👏😍
Awesome, looks like you had fun!!
It was great day - looking forward to more in 2024.
great track, perfect for these cars
been there done that, the same half-hood where the rain gets sucked in the rear and soaks your back.....still great fun.
Yes, the boot space was drenched after but like you say, it’s great fun.
Half hood is very practical but the rain certainly gets sucked in the back
Bloody hilarious 😁
Livin' the dream, go for it!🤪 I can't wear a bulky coat in my SV with the half hood, even as a solo driver!!
What a lovely couple, enjoy, keep well 🙏
Dễ thương quá 😍😍😍. Tôi yêu các bạn, tôi yêu Caterham của các bạn
Great video and I'm sure you'll get the track day bug! My first day (2009) was massively overwhelming but also amazing! You'll probably end up making some friends for life! Here are my top tips: Fill up just before you arrive at the circuit so you know you've got a full tank. Keep an eye on the fuel level throughout the day! With your car I'd imagine you may only need to fill up once, if at all. Mine is really thirsty so I do 3-4 tanks and take cans with me. Take some basic tools and spare car fluids just in case. I now have a grab bag of spares! (Gaffer tape, zip ties, throttle cable etc) Take some sugary drinks to keep your own energy up. I find I do get dehydrated at track days. Take some spare clothes just in case. Take some warm clothes for when you're not driving. A lot of tracks get bloody cold and windy! You'll need to wear long sleeved clothes in the Caterham, so make sure you take some. Don't go out immediately after the sighting laps. Give it 20 mins as everyone tends to go out straight away and it's intimidating for a novice. Use this time to check the oil and levels just in case! When going out do a warm up lap for a lap or so to get everything warmed up. If you go maximum attack straight out the pits the tyres will be cold and you'll probably spin! Keep track sessions to 15-20 mins. It's likely you'll get tired before the car and then silly mistakes creep in. Don't feel pressured into going faster than you're comfortable with - there will be some seriously quick cars on track and also people of all levels. Make sure you both have a go! When coming in do a lap or two at 60mph to cool down and when you return to the pits leave the handbrake off to prevent warping. (Take some blocks of wood or chocks) Get a decent lunch during the break! It really helps with concentration. If you're passengering consider if you want to go out straight after lunch! It can make some people queazy. Be mindful towards the end of the day. I don't often go out after 4pm as I'm tired and that's when silly mistakes happen. If you have a spin take it easy and come in. The first few spins will be a huge adrenaline rush and you'll need 20 minutes to calm down and stop shaking! I would highly recommend doing some days in France, which you can turn into a long weekend! I use Lotus-on-Track a lot and they do some fantastic days in both UK and mainland Europe. Abbeville would be absolutely perfect for your car!!! Good luck and hopefully see you on track one day soon!
Thanks - we are really excited about it and no doubt will share our exploits here. Already making plans for 2024!!!!
What are your tips for anyone going on their first track day? We'd love to know.
Really impressed with Chemical Guys stuff ... what would you recommend for looking after your wheels?
As a would be Caterham owner I would really recommend "Poor boys Wheel Sealant". I had some rather nice wheels on a previous car and if you applied this once a 1/4 to the wheels break dust washed off easily
When I lived in Kent, my favourite place for a stop was the route 1066 cafe near Hastings, also a biker cafe. Bit of a trek from where you are. I've taken all my vehicles there over the years as it's a nice drive, including the Caterham rentals 😊
Had me shivering!
I must admit we were chilly and have invested in some much thicker coats 😂
@@soweboughtacaterham good idea for the more exposed runs out! I'm hoping to do more in my SV next year. 😁
If you have a recommendation for a great place for a roadside/motorist breakfast then please do share here. 👍🏼
A lovely film. My wife and I heartily agree, and all the same things apply to our 2006 Roadsport SV. We have 3-point seatbelts, which is very slightly more practical than the 4-point, but not by much. Everything still takes ages though, because people always want to ask questions about the car! Ours is 185hp, which is quite a bit faster on the track, but honestly on the road I'm not sure you'd notice the difference - most of the time you don't have enough grip to use the extra power, nor do you want to go any faster. If you don't already have one, I highly recommend a high rear brake light on the roll bar. The standard brake lights are so low down they're hard to see from an SUV, and having a bunch of LEDs in peoples faces does help, especially with how fast these cars can stop. And two thumbs up for a half hood. Ever since we got ours, we've parked the full hood and never used it. The half is all you really need. If it's raining harder than that, you're in the wrong car :-)
What a lovely film that captures so much of what makes these cars fun to drive and enjoy. I can relate to all that you both say, and I laughed at the part about eating breakfast out! We have made many early trips out in the past year of ownership with breakfast as our destination. Look forward to seeing more of your adventures.
A fun day, my car at 1:35
I wonder what the electric version costs?
Fantastic day made even better by the daily dance . Some beautiful cars and bikes on show .
It was ana amzing day - hope to be taking our Caterham there next year.
