How to Make an Automatic Chicken Door - Step by Step instructions HD
An instructional video showing How to make your own reliable and safe Automatically opening & closing Chicken hutch/coop door.
This video demonstrates two similar doors, each made from different materials, and slightly different components, and then clearly & easily shows how you can build the Auto Chicken door yourself, step by step, using components that require little or no soldering.
Our very first Auto chicken door which we built years ago is still operating today, and has done without hiccups or problems.

Solar Cooling Fans for Chickens -Easy, DIY, portable, cheap, effective.
Просмотров 16 тыс.10 лет назад
A basic video on using Solar panels directly & very safely wired to an electric fan, so as to provide cooling for the chickens in a very hot environment. Providing a cool breeze allows the hot air within the chicken coop or hutch to be rapidly replaced with cooler air, and allows the birds the opportunity to remove the trapped hot air from under their feathers in very hot conditions where they ...
Easy DIY Wheel Assembly for Chicken Hutch / Tractor
Просмотров 8 тыс.10 лет назад
A simple wheel assembly that we made, which only needs gravity to help the wheels easily swing into or out of place. Chicken Hutches often need moving, and providing fresh ground is great, however they can be difficult & cumbersome to move. There are several wheel assembly systems around. Many are expensive, some are hard to use. This system is easy to use, and makes moving & manoeuvring the hu...
Chicken Hutch "Cooling" - Solar Powered Fan Unit
Просмотров 3 тыс.10 лет назад
An old video I found, showing how easily we connect 12 volt fans to solar panels, and how easily we mount them onto the end of our chicken hutches & chicken tractors. - When these units blow across a tray of water, a damp hessian cloth wicking up water, or across a damp area of ground such as over the ground serviced by a slow garden dripper, they can very quickly lower the temperature in the h...
Auto Chook Door
Просмотров 61510 лет назад
This was the first of many auto-opening & closing doors that we have made for our chicken hutches. This simple design has worked very well for us. It is cheap to make, easy to make, and has worked reliably now for about 3 years (at the time of making this video) without any hiccups. Our other videos show the testing phases, and the construction of this type of door. We hope this helps some of you.
Automatic Chicken hutch Door - Prototype 1
Просмотров 60810 лет назад
This was our first attempt at making an automatic door for our chicken hutch. It has now been in operation for about 3 years without a hiccup. Every morning and every night it goes up and down on its own. (Our other video shows the hutch after it was relocated, and continues to run as smoothly & reliably as ever). We have many foxes & cats which will take our chickens if given the chance. So, t...

Natural Mite & Lice prevention in Chicken Hutches & Nesting Boxes -Using Marigolds

Using cuttings of Marigold plants to Naturally prevent Lice & Mites in Chicken Hutches & Nesting Boxes.
Google seems to wait for a week to show me these videos, this one just shows up but my search never found it. Anyway, good job, and pretty simple design for DIY. I have found a early 2000's volvo rear window setup is pretty much already setup to open/close, just needs the timer and motor controller. It goes too fast and is too strong, to run it at 12v, but it works at 5v too. But I'm doing one now that would be easier for others to copy using stepper motors as they are cheap brand new and will swing open a door, the steppers are not too strong so they just 'slip' if a chicken is in the doorway. This requires another lock mechanism so the door can't be opened by force. I've watched lots of videos..some designs don't lock and can be pushed up if something tries hard enough.
whats the model # and power of the fan
To be honest I really hate the string type doors almost as much as I hate the vehicle antenna doors, BUT I like yours very much. I even come back to your video from time to time just to watch it like a favorite movie. I even recommend it to others who want a string door. I just add that hey should use two timers like yours in stead of one. much easier to wire. But we have already conversed about that. One thing tho that I have always wondered. You say "Two relay switches means that the system uses less electricity, which can be vital for reliability when using battery power." I would be very interested in an explanation. TY.
I know this is an old video but wanted to give you a huge thanks for posting it. This is very similar to what I had in mind but I was going to use a wind screen motor that I already had, that little gear motor will work much better as far as space . Great design and excellent video! Thanks again
Really perfect and easy to use ,very practice. Did you do it yourself?👍
Great design. Good to see an Aussie video. 👍
how is maintenance? How often do you find that you need to replace the string or another part of the mechanism?
I know this is an old video but if you (or anyone else who knows the answer) can help, I'd greatly appreciate it. Are the connections and the fan itself weatherproof? I live in the Mid Atlantic US and humidity is awful during the hot season. (I'd guess it's hot/humid down under too? *wink*). I do have a part of my chicken run covered so it would be "mostly" out of the elements like direct rain but humidity and leaks that I may not notice could be possible. I don't want to burn my girl's home down.
Is it water resistant ?
Mary gold destilation essence can be sprayed over chicken! coop spot. Thiis another way of prevention!
Is this okay to put in the nest box of zebra finches and budgies ??
Elegant.
Were did you buy the chicken tractor, or did you made it yourself? If you made it yourself, could you explain what i exactly need and how to assemble?
I really love this!!!!
Thanks for sharing !
I have tried to get this to work but for the life of me, the relays baffle me. The relays I have are numbered but the schematic is not so I'm not sure how everything wires together. I'm using all the same electrical parts as you as far as relays, timer, motor etc. Nice design, I just need some help with the relays.
Fantastic video, thank you for posting! I made the door and have had it running for a few months now, I have used a sewing bobbin as the pulley however the string I'm using has a tendency to fray, break and / or get stuck with the force of the motor. What cable / string did you use that doesn't tighten on itself? Thanks!
Use lawnmower pull cord. Or high test fishing line. You can always use 3/32 wire rope/cable.
Thanks for the video, I am looking at something like this to raise grow-out meat rabbits on pasture in a hot and humid climate. Is there a problem on this system when it comes to dealing with rain? We get a lot of quick showers and I don't want to have things short out or need replacing every year. I suppose you could hang the fan underneath some cover, but don't know if the wiring connections still need some TLC.
Do chickens eat marigolds? I want to put some in pots by their house 😂 Partly because they look beautiful
Very AWESOME!!! I would like to have a parts list of everything you used and where to get them from.... PLEASE! Keep up the great work and Thanks 🙏
borntaskate42 the images have expired unfortunately
Great video. Was it difficult to locate the various components? I.e the motor, etc
i do not think this will be enough, instead research prozap permethrin dust.
The dust makes 1 of my chickens sneeze! It really irritates her. I use a lice spray instead of a dust which lasts 6 weeks. But I like the idea of using natural products if possible plus a nest full of flowers does look beautiful. I'd rather make my nest in a bed of marigolds rather than dust haha
Is the relay in the timer still drawing power all day. All you need is a timer a DPDT relay, two diodes and two limit switches. Way simple. Add photocell and a SPDT switches and you can go from timer or dawn till dusk.
Where would you put the diodes?
@@adamesch6834 You place the diodes at the limit switches or you can put them in a control box. It is a bit "complicated" to explain in writing( for me anyway). I have a video called "Basic Car Automatic Antenna Wiring Diagram". The diodes are wired basically the same way as if you were to wire a coop door. This way is still good and there are definite pros of doing it with diodes. But I actually rediscovered how to do it with no diodes and using only two SPDT timers (Video is up) and of course the limit switches. If it helps please let me know.
@@AztecWarrior69_69 Thanks
@@adamesch6834 Holy Moly! I just came back to you video to watch again and I realized that I did not post the link to the video. Here it is ruclips.net/video/ClPmxFDa5m4/видео.html

I made similar with woodprix instructions :)
You should visit woodprix website if you would like to make it by yourself I think.
Very nice
i like this
Parabéns muito bom
Genius, mate. Genius.
I notice a dearth of comment. Some marigolds are well known for repelling nematodes but as for them being a generic deterrent, I would suggest that this 'fact' relies more on opinion and old wives' than any science. If you watch the internet some gardeners use them to attract insects and pollinators and other use them to repel, interesting dichotomy. Cheers,
I like what you have come up with here but do you think that it will keep predators out?
Hi freind. What this motor ? Thanx
Does anyone know if the timer he used has any kind of manual override for when you want to open or close the door in off hours? The manual is pretty minimal and not written by a native english speaker.
Ciao David, great video, well explained and look simple. As my knowledge on electric is too basic I will get some help from a friend. Like it a lot and I will use your idea as base to start my work on my chicken coop door.
Informative video, I'm thinking of running this inside my coop. Run PVC duct (with the fan inside) down the center along the roof ridge with cutouts on either side-facing down at a 45 degree angle. My coop has two windows facing front that I have the option of opening. I'm a first time chicken owner so any ideas help.
thats a CPU fan it isnt going to do anything for your chickens...
thanks for video
I love seeing the chooks sitting in front of the fan on that hot day. They're lucky to have such a thoughtful and compassionate owner.
Hi David, are you able to advise how the micro switches (the limit switches) are connected?
Hi Thank you for this great video. I have watched a lot of automatic chicken doors but found yours to be the best. However, I am a COMPLETE amatuer when it comes to anything electric. So I have no idea what kind of wires to buyt. I bought the motor, relays, and timer that you recommended ut need help in understadning what wires to buy and how to hook them up! Thanks for whatever help you can provide. Thanks!!
I put his schematic here: drive.google.com/open?id=0B4-r-kf-oscVVnBQc19QbmVLWDA

Hi, what kind of relay and switch should I be looking for to purchase?
I am pretty sure you can find good solution on inplix webpage :)
Think I just figured it out. What I learned. 12 v means 12 volt. Timer light comes on with 6 v but wouldn't actually switch. Need to press limit switches when connecting to battery. Use NC normally closed connection to the one on the side. There are short wires connecting the relays. Stared with 20 gauge wire, but ended up using 14 gauge (which was tight). Haven't found d sail track if people have suggestions. Screws to attach my 15 rpm motor were metric #4 (I think). Ordered another Relay will set it up soon.
I managed to find the timer on Ebay but i cannot identify the relay switches. Can you help me out with that?
would this work for the relays? www.lightinthebox.com/2pcs-12v-spst-relay-wire-socket-car-automotive-alarm-40a_p4818109.html?prm=1.5.1.1
