Not really true at all 😂 piston speed is all that matters not really but in this argument a longer rod fixes the issue of a long stroke to a small bore and rpm. Actually if we look at Honda's car engines we see pretty clearly that they favor under square lay outs and are know specifically for their top end power and lack of down low tq and their reliability with those revs. Theres way more ti this topic than bore vs stroke and the conversation is fairly mute if the cylinder isnt over 450cc for the most part due to flame front speed and lits of other factors. We know smaller chambers are more efficient at which point does it give diminishing returns? Well thats dependant on a few variables but generally anything smaller than 65mm bore unless the combustion pressures are really high like in high boost applications (100psi of boost ect). Then it becomes advantages to go down into the 60mm range as the time it takes the flame front to reach the edges by the rings is faster than the pressure spike which would cause detonation due to octane or vise versa 😅. We see this in bug turbo v8 drag stuff 60psi of boost is hard but for the 2l i4 stuff 120psi is hard Same fuels. even na we see generally higher compression ratios on the 500cc per cylinder engines than the bigger stuff for the same reason. What your saying isnt true but also can be true but its not for the reason your saying it if you catch my drift.

Square engine is just... square. The golden middle. The undersquare engine should be more efficient, and the oversquare engine should have more power density. Thats all.

how to distinguish the long stroke / short stroke and squre ratio engines? For example, if bore = stroe, then it is square ratio engine. 76 mm x 76 mm bore and stroke is just a square engine. Toyota has 86 x 86 bore and stroke square engine for 2.0 L gasoline engine. Then if 85 x 87 bore stroke is long stroke engine? In this way there is not many square engines. However in reality long stroke and short stroke engines are not distinguished in this way. It is distinguished by stroke / bore ratio. and S/B ratio is more than 1.3 ( : 1.3 stroke = bore ), than it is long stroke engine. Based on this, the most of the engines in the world belongs to square engine, which means that there is no big difference in efficiency, torque and speed. Do not make them as you imagine.
