That’s a very modernized looking nitro sport you have. What year is that? I still have my original 1997 nitro sport and the body design looks way more modern than mine. I didn’t think traxxas still made the nitro sport.
Not sure if you have one (didn’t watch the entire video) but an O.S. 11KR carburetor is the ultimate upgrade for a Traxxas 3.3 engine. It will wake your truck up, and is very much easier to tune. It’s about a $90 upgrade.
Invisible speed rc has a longer video on tuning, highly recommend watching it.
Grab some popcorn if you do😂
Your Rich on top and bottom. Go watch invisible speed rc and youll learn everything you need to know about tuning lol . And adam drake. Keep at it and dont be afraid to make adjustments, just remember you can change it back. As long as you keep track of the adjustments.
I like that video. Funny and covers everything

Nice work man
That’s how my engine looked when I bought mine. The fuel reacts with the metal and makes it rust very fast which is why it’s important to drop a couple drops of after run in the carb so it goes in the crank case. Not too much as it will build up

Always bring TWO Glow sticks!
Very nice score bud. Nice thing about traxxas is plenty of parts. I actually just sold a brand new sport in the box a few months ago. Kinda wish i didn't but oh well. I got me a nitro hawk to rebuild which predates the rustler and sport so that should be fun. Keep burning that nitro. We need to keep it alive
@@gingerman6560 Thank you! Yeah my LHS has mainly Traxxas so that’s mostly what I’ve got. Definitely should have hung on to that sport I can’t let go of things since I sold my ps1 and n64 when I was little regretted that later!
Im excited for that engine teardown

@@andrewgates9518 yeah definitely odd that’s the only thing I use my left hand for, when I was doing indoor/outdoor racing people were like how do you drive like that.😂

@@allaspectsrc4178 thank you cant go wrong with a Nitro!
Your dog was checking the temp for you. Thats a good dog right there. Thats is a very nice lst. I would have a hard time running it in that condition but I'm glad you are doing it.
@@gingerman6560 awesome comment made me laugh he was definitely trying to help, made me nervous he’s was to close to that hot cooling head 😂
My temps my engine run at are 190-250. 220 is where it averages and likes to run at. On occasion it runs really cold around 180.
Yeah I like to run no more than 210 but it concerned me how fast from start it reached 173. I did some research this is a vintage McCoy MC59 glow plug and its a hot plug which is why its getting to temp fast.
@@DillyWillyy I ran a medium plug on mine. Also used a medium cold plug also. I use the LRP R4/R5 and they last me a good while.
@@haywirerc cool gonna pick some up plus I want to save this vintage McCoy plug so that way everything stays original
So happy you got it running! Everyday you’ll get better and better! With the rotor start moving on idle as long as the roto start moves slowly but if it moves with the same speed of the engine it may need the one way bearing cleaned in the engine.
Me too! Okay I'm brand new with the roto start so I didn't know if it was supposed to spin some but everything seemed good.
@@DillyWillyy only thing you should worry about is if it doesn’t spin the engine when you use the drill. Means you blown the one way bearing
Omg you got the battery wire clips too! That thing is new😂
But yeah he ran one tank on the break in cycle and then he got 2 Xmaxx’s for him and his kids and never touched it again left it in his garage. He only wanted $300
Nice!
Second I honestly have no clue why the carb would flood like that😂 bizarre! With stock setting the fuel should not be coming out like that so definitely your high speed needle has an issue with regulating the amount of fuel going into the carburetor. I recommend getting a brand new carburetor and rebuild the old one and save it for backup. Sh engine .28 carburetor fits but it is larger intake. That’s what I used on my .26 which it ran ok but tuning was easier with the original carb and I got more power out of it. The crank shafts are the same in the .28 and .26/427 so there won’t be intake resistance from allowing too much air into the crank case. I really like the Sh carburetors and they are made by the same manufacturer and are perfect fit. It’s not wrong to run the bigger intake but for fuel mileage it is better with stock.
Thanks for the advice I will take out the high speed need and take a look this is all original 19 years old so I wouldn't be surprised if somethings wrong in the carb. I will reduce the idle gap for sure. All parts are pretty must discontinued so hopefully easy fix. I played around with it some before it got to late and got it to idle a bit without the transmitter, maybe ill post it for yo to see.
@@DillyWillyy engine parts you can still find. SH, DYNAMITE MACH and LRP are under the same losi engine platform. A lot of those engine brands run under the same manufacturer. LRP is the racing division as the carburetors are changeable with racing carburetors. SH and Dynamite are the RTR engines and are more simplified but internally all those engines use the same parts like piston connecting rods and crankshafts. Also backplates and head buttons they all can share.
@@haywirerc Makes sense good to know will definitely reference this for parts.
First your idle gap is way too big. I did the same thing when I started. Try to keep your idle gap as small as possible so that your able to get full throttle range out of your carburetor. To help it idle with a small idle gap you need to lean the low speed. What I recommend you do is start with the idle gap and set it to half of what it’s at right now. Then lean the low speed until it idles and you may need to make a high speed adjustment where the high speed needs to be leaned and low speed richen slightly. It took me a whole year to learn how a healthy nitro engine sounds. It just takes time and failure to learn. Just make sure you have a light steady stream of smoke out of the exhaust and the engine doesnt lean out when off throttle. Leaning out will cause the engine to run dry and not lubricated. If that happens richen the low speed and if it doesn’t idle slightly raise the idle gap. Goodluck and don’t get frustrated. I regret getting frustrated as it’s nice to run stuff but patience is very important with a nitro rc. Number one rule is to have fun.
Great advice haywire 👍
I think it’s a carburetor problem. I had the same issues when I started with my LST. Not to scare you but it took me a whole year to finally understand it. Also get a heat gun and preheat your engines to help them crank over on initial starts. What you can also do is loosen the glow plug to lose some compression then tighten it when it’s started. I’ve been doing nitro for two years and have a lot to tell you. When I get home and watch the entire video.
Maybe the needle settings are too rich???
I was thinking the same thing but it should be able to run on losi break in tune. Gonna try and lean it out some more next time just to get it running.
Sick revo! You got some great stuff!
Hell yeah! Great to see the legacy of the LST being carried!
