Amtrak Dash-8 509 on Surfliner Trains
509 recently made a return to mainline service after sitting in Amtrak’s 8th street yard for almost 2 years.
Train 1: Amtrak 794 to San Diego with AMTK 509 leading infront of cab car #6951, the same train is also seen departing at Spring Rd crossing in Moorpark, CA on 10/1/24.
Train 2: Amtrak 777 to San Luis Obispo with AMTK 509 once again leading, this time on a new trainset as solo power. The train is seen going through Somis, CA and Seacliff, CA on 10/2/24.
Train 3: Amtrak 774 to San Diego with AMTK 6903 leading, 509 is shoving this train through Spring Rd in Moorpark, CA on 10/3/24.

Santa Barbara sub got some good action this week. I did miss a few things but overall caught the best of it, including a strange BNSF unit that made it onto the hauler powerset. LOF67 had a special load of Australian M1A2 Abrams tanks today. These will go into the ports of Oxnard and be shipped overseas. Train LOF67-20 to Guadalupe with UP 8218 leading, and military loads. 6/20/24

I went out pretty late to see a very late Amtrak 794 with a locomotive from the Coast Starlight, they had broken down in San Luis Obispo and needed to borrow some power. Coast gave me some suprises the day before my 15th birthday. The Baretable train was no surprise as there were 2 before it and that train in particular had been on the coast for 4 days.
