I think it's very telling that the Dean/Castiel ship during the live fan shows, were always played for laughs. Too bad when so much time and effort was purposely invested in something that was clearly real.

Eileen was SUCH an important character to me and you articulated exactly what I felt was wrong with the ending they gave her and Sam. I’m hard of hearing, and when I watched her introduction episode for the first time, I was taking my first-ever ASL class. Now that it’s hit home just how badly the writers handled her ending, it’s CRUSHING to me that we didn’t at least see something like Sam signing with his kid, who could’ve been Deaf. I also hadn’t thought about how Dean rescuing Cas from the Empty would’ve been a *perfect* parallel to Cas rescuing him from hell, despite the countless fix-it fics I’ve read with that premise.

I'm really late I know, but the thing that frustrates me about the Ed/Oswald-storyline in S3 is... that it made sense. It made sense that Oswald would do horrible things out of jealousy and fear of loosing the one person who truly cared about him, destroying said relationship in the process. It made sense that Ed would react violently and cruel to that betrayal, setting his mind to destroying Oswald. Besides the fact that Isabella could have also been a sexy lamp wearing Kristens glasses, I was invested in that tragic, angsty storyline... but I wish that this storyline was included in a show that also portrays queer people in a positive light, like, we didn't even get background gay people. It just left a bad taste in my mouth, even if the writing itself was good in my opinion. And I really want to look in the minds of straight people, because some people will still say that Oswald is straight and like... ok? Do you have eyes and ears?

I think the whole 'brothers' thing would've worked (if they wanted to do that) IF THEY ACTUALLY INVESTED INTO THAT IDEA. They should've have had characters that are supposed to be like 'brothers' act that zesty around eachother (unless they were 'homies' and not 'brothers' which would make the zestyness explainable if they were straight). The writers confuse me, if they wanted to invest the time into a specific relationship between The Penguin and The Riddler either being a brotherly relationship or a 'romantic' relationship they should've invested all of their time into whichever one and follow through till the end. Instead of changing their minds most of the time.

(has it really been 4 years since Supernatural ended? Damn.) Personally, I always hoped that Dean and Cas would settle into a Jay and Silent Bob relationship. "Hetero life mates". I see it as Dean and Cas have romantic but not sexual feelings for one another. After watching your video, I also like the idea of Dean "settling down" by running a bar with Cas, and Sam leading a Men of Letters-esque team to keep hunting. Some of the flaws with the finale I know can be blamed on Covid, but that doesn't make them easier to forgive.

16:12 20:05 20:30 21:00 It's fairly easy to criticize John and label him a bad father; but it has to be taken into account what led to him being an extremely harsh father in the first place to his children and that was the despicable actions of the yellow eyed demon, I mean take a moment and picture it if you will, if you had seen someone you loved and had children by pinned up to the ceiling and then burst into flames before your very eyes that would scar you and screw your mind up for life too, Therefore it's fair to say that John Winchester was robbed of any chance of being a good father to his kids the moment that happened; the moment the Realm of the supernatural came into his life and essentially took everything from him, which left no other choice but to have a strike back response, For it was in that instance that he went from being private citizen, loving, caring husband and father John to being a kickass Marine soldier and Drill instructor John who was (no pun intended) hell-bent on making his sons strong, powerful fighters for a war that was not his own making, that he did not ask for and did not want any part of until it came into his life and shattered it to a million pieces, a war that irrevocably changed and damaged him beyond repair, He didn't want that life for his sons but he felt he had no choice except to prepare them for it in any way possible, no matter how harsh his tactics were, If he had somehow fallen or stumbled into it, the way his alternative reality version did and turned it into a sort of private militia agency group called huntercorp I'm pretty certain that Dean and Sam's childhood would have been drastically different, possibly a little bit happier the way their alternate versions were but that was certainly not the case, he was forcibly thrusted into warrior mode and was kept there due to the despicable actions of the Yellow-eyed demon, therefore YED should ultimately be blamed for EVERYTHING the winchester brothers have been through, that their own father put upon them and why john was never able to live up to his potential in becoming the very best dad he could have been. 🙄😔😁😉😎🔥💯👍🏻

The thing is, as much as i hate the obvious queerbaiting that went on with Destiel at times, i actually think the way Destiel was done throughout the show was, ironically, very realistic. In many ways it makes perfect sense that Cas would realise his feelings for Dean more easily, (since angels are genderless and not as concerned with sexuality) but because he's an angel perhaps he didn't fully realise his feelings or act on them for years until he's lived among humans long enough to recognise them for what they are. And Dean... well at the end of the day Dean is a man born and raised in 1980s America by an ex-marine father who trained him to be a soldier, not exactly a conducive environment to explore your sexuality... even if he does have some bisexual tendencies, which i personally think he does, it makes perfect sense that he would bury these or never really realise them consciously, especially since hes obviously attracted to women too. I think probably Cas is the only 'man' hes ever been close enough to and known for long enough to have a real chance of falling in love with and realising his feelings for. it was obviously going to take years of slowly becoming closer to Cas for him to even register that his feelings for Cas might be becoming more romantic/ sexual, if he even registered it at all until Cas drew attention to it with this speech. As much as i understand peoples issues with queer baiting and i do think these characters were done dirty in many ways, i actually think it kind of makes sense that only certain death would force these two idjits to confront their feelings, and that they wouldn't actually get their act together and have an explicit conversation about this until its too late! While i definitely think the writers could have done something more, maybe shown Dean and Cas reuniting in heaven and done SOMETHING with it rather than just killing Cas off altogether, i dont think running in to each others arms to passionately kiss was ever going to be the vibe with these two! Even as a big Destiel shipper I think I would have found it unrealistic and it would have felt a bit forced to see them kiss or for Dean to give a reply straight away. But I would have been VERY interested to see how the writers handled the final couple of episodes if they did decide to bring Cas back in and try and go even further with it, because I genuinely don't know what the best way to approach it would have been. I think the writers shot themselves in the foot by not making it a more explicit romance earlier, it makes it hard to judge what would feel like an appropriate/ realistic reaction from Dean at that point. It just was too little, too late.

Tbh the funniest, or maybe saddest, reading of how Dean reacted to Cas dying is just that Dean is homophobic. Like really homophobic, and not in a Bisexual, grappling with internalized homophobia way. Tthat bias just won d learning that Cas was gay and in love with him made him quit caring about him, or at least made him uncomfortable enough to act like nothing happened.

I think the finale went against everything the show stood for. I love the show so much but they did every single character so dirty in the end, and I agree that it could’ve been SO easily fixed. I don’t think there was a single character that I was satisfied with the ending for. I’m not a Destiel shipper at all, but Cas deserved more than just having someone say his name like two times during the last episode. The writers have been doing him dirty for years and he deserved an ON SCREEN happy ending because having someone just up and say he ended up in heaven somehow just feels like a trick. Having Dean die on one of John’s unfinished hunts was the worst possible way for him for die. Dean becoming his own person, becoming more than just his dad’s weapon, was like… the whole point of his character imo. Like he was supposed to become his own person, and for him to die the same way he thought he would die back in season 1 is devastating in every way. Because, realistically (and even after everything they’ve been through) it makes us wonder what really changed??? Don’t even get me started on Sam. I think most of it complains were about Dean’s ending and I get that but I think Sam’s ending made me even more mad somehow? (It’s probably because I’m a Sam girl) but they seriously took away their entire support system, every person the brothers ever loved, and basically told us “even if everyone else is gone, everything will be okay as long they have each other” and then IMMEDIATELY separated them. I know their relationship wasn’t really healthy or good, but at that point there was nothing they could do to make that codependency go away. And then, without any warning they rip the brothers away from each other. Maybe Sam living an apple pie life would’ve been what Sam would’ve wanted at some point. If that’s how it had ended in like season 8 or something, maybe that would’ve seemed like a good ending. But it didn’t end back then, so it’s not what he wanted anymore. When Sam tells (the og) Charlie during the MOC arc “But I really understand now that this is my life, I love it. But I can’t do it without my brother. I don’t wanna do it without my brother. And if he’s gone then I don’t…” it just confirms that even at that point, they were too far gone to be able to live any sort of happy life with the other one dead. Also I know you said that Dean struggled with self autonomy and I can see that, but I feel like that’s also just as much of a struggle for Sam. He lived under John or Deans orders and control from as long as he can remember, and even when he was at collage he was constantly being manipulated by the Azazel’s demons disguised as friends, and then he was back with Dean he was tricked by the angels, manipulated by Ruby, and even when he escaped that he was never really able to make his own choices. And when he did it ended with disaster and being one more reason why he couldn’t. With both the cage and the trials, ending up with a scared soul hallucinating his worst nightmares or on deaths doorstep where Dean has to trick him into being possessed. It almost feels like he’s never experienced free will a day in his life. (And maybe that’s why he’s so unbothered when he finds out that Chuck was controlling them, stealing that from them, because he never felt like he had that in the first place) I’ve heard some of the cast say that they didn’t think Sam would’ve married someone who was a hunter out of respect for Dean. But I think that’s so so so wrong. Why does Dean get to control Sam’s life even after death? (Also he liked Eileen, why would they think Dean would be against that?) The entire last bit of the episode as you see Sam live to be an old man it feels like he only did it all FOR Dean. To make Dean happy. He had been through 100+ years of hell, the trials, being manipulated over and over again, being possessed like 5 times, having his dad and brother control his life for years, I don’t think he couldn’t have been happy without someone who would’ve understood what he’d gone through, or hadn’t at least been there for part of it. The entire ending doesn’t seem genuine. And it makes me so mad. It seemed like Sam was just waiting for the day he would die so that he can be with his brother and that’s so incredibly depressing. The writers somehow made someone living in the end a depressing outcome and idek how they managed to do that. One more thing. The fact that they didn’t show a single side character after we thought they all died was awful. They didn’t have to all be together, but they should’ve at least been mentioned. Ur telling me Jody and Donna, Claire, Garth, Charlie, NO ONE is even verbally mentioned in the last episode after the last time we saw them they had literally disappeared from existence??? WHAT?? That’s ridiculous. 😭 Anyways, like I said, I’m not a Destiel shipper but I did think ur video was really interesting and I enjoyed it a lot. There was so many things wrong with the last episode, I watched it for the first time last year and sobbed through the entire thing because I was SO mad. Also I had no idea that Dean had a job application on his desk?? Omg I actually gasped out loud when I saw it.
