I always thought of Jack Reacher as the 6'5" about 200 lbs solid muscle, blonde hair blue eyed guy. Putting him at 250 lbs in later books is pushing his weight up to pudgy for a guy in his 60's who doesn't have a regular work out routine or special diet? In A Wanted Man he's packing away alot of cheeseburgers at every meal with his coffee! I'm surprised there's no side effects to his health like acid indigestion or gout? LOL! I have read most of the books and seen all the movies with Tom. I have seen the new actor many times in promotions and I find him very very bad and inadequate. He is stiff, rigid, inexpressive and poor. It is better to keep a pious silence about his acting abilities. I've decided it would be masochistic to see any Reacher acted out by this guy. It must be, I imagine, much, much cheaper. Should be. Well. Each one must know well what they do and then be responsible for it. The novels, all of them, are by far the best of all the thriller and action novels (now and of all time). They are intelligent, subtle, well structured and very entertaining. A miracle. Now, the hero is not a simple and crude neighborhood bully, as seen in this new protagonist. I still hope they succeed but remember the numerous recent failures of some film characters that seemed guaranteed

I believe there was a fan base for the Reacher films among those who hadn't read Lee Child's books. For non-readers, their perception of Reacher was largely shaped by Tom Cruise's portrayal in the movies. They weren't aware of Reacher's tall, strong demeanor as described in the books. those who had become invested in the films with Tom Cruise were disappointed when "their character," associated with Cruise, no longer matched their expectations. On the other hand, you have the readers who feel quite the opposite. Having delved into the books, they were disappointed that Tom Cruise, the protagonist in the films, didn't align with the description of the protagonist in the book. So, you essentially have two distinct audiences with different perceptions of who Reacher should be now! Obviously Lee Child and the producers realised later on the mistake and had to choose which reacher they want - and low and behold they chose to stay true to the book, after learning that consistency is key! Maybe they should have realised this at the start, before getting two audiences conflicting eachother!

Never read the books my friend who has was fuming about Tom cruise playing him,sadly she passed before the series,in the 1st film there is a line and the lady says you'll know when you see him Tom doesn't portray that,but richtson is great she'd be happy.

Tom Cruise did a fantastic job as a sociopathic killer in Collateral, but I'm also in the majority who think Alan Ritchson nails the character better in the Jack Reacher series. I mean, he's built like an M1 Abrams battle tank, and you kind of need to be to do the kind of manual body damage he does to people. Both are fine actors however, and I'm not saying I prefer one over the other.

Cruise wasn’t an accurate physical depiction of Reacher. What gives me respect for cruise as an actor was he pulled it off and did a great job. The new reacher is a perfect match for Reachers looks and also shows some insight for the type of humor that keeps reacher from being a darker character. Both guys have done a great job in their portrayal of Reacher.

I just hope the 2 movies of Tom as jack reacher will still adopt in amazon tv series, Reacher. Just done watching reacher season 2 and it's perfect 10/10.

Now for who never read the book: The movies gave me much more emotions compared to the series. I like season 1 of the series, but season 2 I don't know. The special effects were too.... Netflix level. I wished Reacher had more attention to details like Jack Ryan for example.

Probably because Cruise doesn't want to do it. They had to have a big name to sell the movies and they did. Now because of the success they can choose a lesser name to match the books description.

I never read the books, but I've seen the series and the movies. First movie with Tom was great. Gripping action sequences, rewatchable, Tom played a very cool character ...but it's the same character Tom always plays in his action movies (Knight and day, Mission impossible) Series is hit and miss, season 1 reacher is cool, season 2 is cringe. dudes too big and uncoordinated, looks goofy. the assumptions he makes when looking for leads/ clues have also become goofy. Both reacher season 2 and tom cruises 2nd movie were bad.

Both movies were pretty good and Cruise portrayed the character of Reacher really good. However it was from the beginning an issue, that he was not the hulking appearance Reacher has, so in the end he was not the right choice just for that important physical point. That being said, Alan Ritchson IS Reacher, his appearance, his acting, he embodies the character perfectly both mentally and physically.

I think they went total opposite for the series, yes reacher was big, but how big was not always the first impression. like the dude always dressed in tight sleeve hugging tshirts and a little to baby faced but I guess you can't have everything
