People in the comment to get this wrong this movie isn't about masculinity it's deeper than that it's about philosophy and how you should embrace pain and the suck as some people would call it yes it does also critique capitalism and consumerism and does warn against extremism but ultimately if you look deeper past that it's really about the fact that people get stuck in the cycles of trying to run away from pain whether that's drugs alcohol sitting in front of a TV for hours and hours every day being a job you absolutely hate but staying there because you feel like there's no way out when they're clearly is it's complicated to explain but as you get older if you're very self-aware you start noticing it in society how people idolize rich lavish lifestyles and being immoral and being hedonist and just doing whatever they want regardless of the consequences there's really a lot of different messaging you can take from the movie if we're being real I think it's kind of funny though because it came out 25 years ago and it still kind of relevant today I mean children growing up would rather be rappers and celebrities and big famous high-end people than to just be good and moral and virtuous which is something were quite frankly lacking a lot of right now and the whole middle generation child thing is very true I mean the silent generation had two wars to fight and our generation is going through stuff but it's not the same type of stuff that other generations are going through where they could race a family have a house do stuff ours is more of a spiritual battle where people want to strip you of who you are and fit you into their little box and tell you this is what you need to be honestly I can go on and on it's just like I said much deeper there's a reason why politics right now are very extreme on both sides because of that was born on 97 find it funny this came out 2 years after I was born

It's crazy how people misundertand Fight Club. It's of course a critique of the capitalism and consumerism. But it's not celebration of manlyness, toughness, etc. It's a direct critique of toxic masculinity. It says "stop looking for manlyness, violence, stop to act tough, harden yourself. Stop listening to charismatic, seductive, and dangerous leaders, they will blind you and lead you to your self-destruction with this rigid idea of masculinity. Seek meaning in your life instead of being exploited, alienated, and destroyed by capitalism and consumerism. The fight should be used to resist the dehumanizing society that brainwashes us. Connect with your emotions, your inner strength, connect with others, and hold on, live even if the world is absurd."

Tyler Durden aims to give means for men to fight back against legitimate feelings of loneliness, purposelessness and emasculation. He succeeds because there are truly very few outlets for men to deal with these issues in a group setting that still respects their masculinity and autonomy. The danger, however, is that while Fight Club provides positive senses of community, acceptance and an encouragement to become stronger, tougher individuals, Tyler Durden is able to then use that to control the Fight Club members and turn them into tools to further his agenda. The Narrator cares about the men, but Tyler Durden encourages them to obey without question and even lose their individuality/autonomy by viewing Tyler's wisdom and guidance as an absolute. The movie calls for men to step up, accept they have worth and use it to take charge of their lives, however it also cautions that how others can use that rhetoric to control and manipulate you.
