How to sign a PDF document
Have you ever been asked to sign and return a PDF document and wondered how to do so? Maybe you thought it was better to print it out, sign the printed copy with a pen, scan the signed paper hopefully into a PDF file, and then attach it to an email before you send it back. But, that is not he best way to sign a PDF document.
In this video, I show you a better way. I will show you how to use a freely-available PDF editor called PDF-XChange Portable to sign your PDF and get it ready to be sent back to whoever asked for it. You don’t have to print it out first after all.

      Hi there, Diagnosing a crash like that with no access to the computer nor having any ability to reproduce the crash is usually impossible. There are only a few trial-n-error things you can do that might help, or not: 1- Uninstall both LibreOffice and Zotero 2- Install a nightly build of LibreOffice and Zotero instead, and see how they might behave. You can get the nightly build for LibreOffice from here: dev-builds.libreoffice.org/daily/master/Win-x86_64@tb77-TDF/current/ And Zotero’s nightly build from here: github.com/tefkah/zotero-night/releases Will these steps work? Possibly. Who knows. If the crash is due to something fundamental, then the best bet would be to file a bug report at Zotero project for them to look into the issue. I hope this helps you with the issue.

    Is there a setting that there is a link connection between the citation in my text to my literature list?

    • @EricBright
      @EricBright Год назад

      Hi. If you mean a link inside of your text to click on and to automatically get to the corresponding entry in your Zotero database, then the answer is no. There is no such external link. Everything inside the document is connected via behind-the-scene links and codes. That’s how Zotero can tell which in-text citation belongs to which reference. But those links are internal to the document and will not take you to Zotero. Zotero understands them when it sees them and then it acts accordingly. Those links go nowhere outside of the document though.

    • @cypherecon5989
      @cypherecon5989 Год назад

      @@EricBright I meant within my document. If I have citation like (example, 2023) and I click on it I will linked to my „References“ part with full citation of (example, 2023).

    • @EricBright
      @EricBright Год назад

      The in-text citation is “linked” to the references in a different sense: they are related and Zotero can see the relationship. They are not “linked” in a common sense so nothing happens inside of your document when you click on them. I guess you might have something like an endnote in mind, where clicking on the endnote in the text will make the word-processor to jump to the corresponding note at the end of your document. Citations don’t do that. They are not clickable in that sense.

    • @cypherecon5989
      @cypherecon5989 Год назад

      @@EricBright Is there a way that they behave like that?

    • @EricBright
      @EricBright Год назад

      @@cypherecon5989 I don’t think so. The Zotero mechanism for in-text citation is not meant to do that (or I have not seen such a feature in Zotero so far). Zotero’s use of “Bookmarks” in .docx documents is such that they are formatted and used for Zotero’s internal use and must be left untouched. Although both MS Word and LibreOffice show them in the list of bookmarks in your document (if Zotero’s preference is set to use bookmarks instead of fields), unfortunately, they will not come with any recognizable name. If clicked in the list of your document’s bookmarks, then you will jump to the location of that particular “bookmark” in the document (which is an in-text citation). But again, they are not connected to the references the way you want them to.

      I don't know at the time he made the video, but today in 2022 it's already in version 7.4.3, LibreOffice has updates every 3 or 4 months, always with improvements, new features are always added, new compatibility and integrations, and today nowadays I can say that not only is it better, it also has more tools (and can enhance them with extensions), it is also being designed in the Long Term to be a more intuitive and easier to use platform, including surpassing MsOffice long-term.

    Thanks for the Video. Sadly i have a few problems with the libre writer plugin for zotero. If i have an citation style (for example APA) which is in-text like this (Exampleauthor et al., 2022) and i want to write normal text after my citation the text will be added to the citation and is also highlighted grey. My workaround would be adding a line break than backspace so im directly behind my citation and then add for example a period. The bigger problem is that if i leave the text inside my citation and update a citation (the one with normal text in it or any other one), the normal text inside every citation will be deleted (because i "changed the citation style"). Is there any possbility of "leaving" the citation field to add text after it, or can i somehow format the text which was "added" to my citation to be normal text body without being linked to zotero? Selecting the text and changing the paragraph style to normal "text body" also doesnt work because, the citation also gets recognized as "text body" by libre.

    It possible that your MRT settings are incorrect. There are several YTube videos showing how some texts (such as farsi) can be adversely affected. Libre Office is open source and therefore contributors come from all over the world. Microsoft still uses kernel programming from the 1990s in MS Office and has neglected other languages and scripts in favour of tinkering with cosmetics and trying to push customers to using One Drive.

    Actually, I think you are misunderstanding the tool you used to remove formatting in Microsoft Word - which has a tooltip "Clear all formatting". It does what it says it does - it clears all formatting and returns all to "normal" style. If you want to remove just the directly applied formatting, select all and hit Ctrl-spacebar. This will leave styles in effect and remove all directly-applied formatting.

    • @EricBright
      @EricBright 2 года назад

      Thank you for the informative comment. 🙏 There are two issues here that I would mention: (1) in my experiment after reading your comment, it appeared that MS Word clears the character style nonetheless (that is what LibreOffice calls Character Style, and will keep when clearing direct formating), even if one uses Ctrl+Space (that is the least I have noticed. There might be other issues with that too). (2) that shortcut is not anywhere in the interface in the form of an icon, a hint, or otherwise and one has to either know it by heart or learn it some other way (i.e. it is not the default behaviour of the software). For those two reasons, although it is nice to know that Ctrl+Space can do some of the things that I had in mind, unfortunately, MS Word, as a software, fails to deliver in that department. Of course, this is a personal assessment. Thank you for sharing your tip. I will make sure I will mention it in future videos if the topic comes up again. ❤

      @@EricBright OMG - I did not realize even Ctrl-space removes character styles. Here I thought there was a non-obvious command that made things act in a more useful and predictable manner. It is maybe even worse! At least with the icon to "Clear all formatting" actually does that. Thanks. Styles with Word really are a mess.

    • @EricBright
      @EricBright 3 года назад

      Hi Sachin! I am glad you found the video helpful. As for the issue you just explained, I have noticed that too. In LibreOffice, one option would be to click on Zotero’s Refresh icon. A pop-up dialogue will ask you to click on “Yes if you wan to keep the changes that you made inside the Zotero citation filed, i.e. the grey area, or click on “No” to discard the change. Clicking on No, will delete all the changes made inside the grey area and will restore the original Zotero citation (but all the extra text you added inside of that area by mistake will be deleted). Then, once that is done, you can start typing AFTER the last character of the grey area, and the text will be outside of that field.
