Canon EF 100mm F/2.8L Macro IS USM Lens - An Old Favourite
Great video! I’ve been shooting on my 2.5K for about a week… and I have 2 random (and possibly dumb) questions: How would someone go about using Canon FD lenses on this camera? Would you need to have the EF mount version? And would each lens have to be modded or is there some sort of adapter out there?
Chris London sets the bar high, but I’m always up for a challenge! 😄 22: 22 Marketing did me 2k in one month you just sound like your talking some rubbish pal
Hello only operate all the lens on manual mode, no OIS, IRIS or AUTOFOCUS is right? I just know the sensor don't have contacts to operate OIS, AUTOFOCUS or IRIS
@@FIRUFILMS yes that's correct. You can use a wide depth of field to keep more in focus and make focus pulling easier. You'll need more light though with this method.
@@MichaelGreenwoodMG thanks, i was looking the dji focus pro os amazing to added to this lottle baby, i will buy it soon, can be used alone without gimbal os fantastic to manual lens cine series
❤❤
Facts bro👍👍
Okay now thats cool!! Micheal for prime minister

Looking good Micheal!!!
Great information. Can you speak about building a funnel.
Thanks for the comment. Will do.
no explicas ni vrga vato.
Was it flares under sunlight ?
OMG what a reveal, listening to your voice on the Shure for several minutes, and then doing the switch, it was quite a reveal! Each Mike has it's own characteristics, but I like it the Oktava with you voice equally as well! Thank you for making this video; very natural and transparent!
Glad you enjoyed it! I love the Oktava for indoor dialogue especially interviews and the Shure is a classic too!
Have you used tripod or handheld shooting ?
impossible to find 2.5MFT for under $1500
I can't see any MFT versions on Ebay UK at the moment.
ProRes isn't smaller than BRAW.
Thanks thanks your comment. Yes you are correct, well spotted. BRAW is smaller in file size than equivalent ProRes. ProRes can make your workflow easier, depending on what you're doing with the footage, e.g. grading etc. I think I'm going to do a few more videos to cover Blackmagic cameras in more depth. What would you like to see in these videos?
@@MichaelGreenwoodMG ProRes can make your footage easier only in certain situations only you aren't using Resolve. I wish I could use BRAW for my older CDNG cameras.
@@mrshaheedmalikwhich CDNG cameras do you have?
@@MichaelGreenwoodMG Blackmagic Production 4k.
@@mrshaheedmalikthe global shutter is great. Do you still use the camera much? I used my two for an interview a few years back, as an A and B cam and they've still great.
Great video
Cheers mate

So true!
Gosh... 3 litres is enough for me
So true... but its more fun watching you 🤣🤣🤣
Thank you!
very much natural and yourself. :)
has anyone mentioned that you look like that guy from breaking bad? love the video btw.
‘What you doing watching me’ - love it 😂😂😂
did you find a solution for the crop factor? I tried it on my canon 6D full frame camera and it really exploits the full scope of the lens but not on the BMPCC
I just accept the crop factor on the 6K Pro because it's the typical super 35 anyway that is used in a lot of films. I have a Canon R6 too which is full frame. I suppose that's the problem when you use a full frame lens on a cropped sensor camera - you're carrying around extra glass. But the thing is, I have both cropped sensor and full frame cameras so I mostly tend to buy full frame lenses, so I can use them with both sensor sizes. I do have a few APS-C lenses too though, like the 10-18 Canon, which is nice and light to use.
Great review, Michael. I subscribed. I purchased my BMCC 2.5K EF mount for $1,037 on 2/19/14. I bought a Tokina lens and a Digistor 240GB SSD. And I never used the camera. Long story. It stayed in its original box for nine years. I only recently unboxed it. Though it was dormant for years, the battery charged to 100%. I've recorded RAW and ProRes to the SSD, and I've transferred files to my computer. I want to learn the original software before upgrading it. (The last update was published in March, 2015. I would've thought there'd be more updates.) I'm having trouble launching Resolve, even having the dongle, so I'll be calling Blackmagic tech support. I bought my BMCC because I fell in love with the image quality, and I liked the Blackmagic story. Now, after a long wait, I'm easing into the learning curve. And there's so much to learn! I'm excited to start this journey.
I’ve got a bmpcc4k and I’m looking at getting the original pocket to use as a B cam. Can the original be transformed to gen 5 to match the pocket 4k?
Just gen 1 and 4 in the raw menu in davinci

It is a lovely lens and a great price! Try it with a polariser filter for car photography?

You are absolutely right about the Neutral Density filters. As for the lens hood, I use collapsible rubber lens hoods on my lenses.
good job

Hi! I’m new to filmmaking and love your video and insight. If you don’t mind answering, what lens did you use at 2:50 in this video and at 4:00? Lovely images!
Thanks for your comment. Those sections of the video were filmed with the Leica Elmarit R 28mm cinemodded by Duclos, that you can see in the shots with the gimbal. If I remember correctly when I looked up the serial number it's a 1988 or 1989 model. I picked it up on Ebay for around £800 to £900 if I remember correctly (I'd have to look back on my invoices). It was already cinemodded and in great condition. Perfect for organic looking footage, if that's the kind of looking you're going for.
Nice review . I remember me and a friend of mine dreaming and wanting to rent one of these to try it out , it was way out of budget back then . After a long time I came across one really cheap a 2.5k Ef mount , it was full of battle scars on the chassis battered a bit like bobby fet's helmet ,I wish It could speak because it looks like has worked really hard and probably could tell me some stories . I get decent results with some m42 lens but never tried it with proper glass but managed with just vintage cheap glass. What I like about this camera is the simplicity of the menu and quality of the image, and if you filmed it right “ because the conditions have to be right ” afterwards with a bit of colour grading you get really interesting results ,So far I’m ok with pro Res HQ I am curious about raw but I’m not familiar with the work flow, and a bit shy of HD space. This thing pushes you to learn things , and research on how to film properly , I love learning with it . Would like to get some accessories for it like the light guard and a cage but since its quit old , stuff is not really available and hard to find. Hat’s off for black magic for making this type of quality available for mortals.
How? please
In DaVinci Resolve. Right-click the affected clip’s thumbnail in the thumbnail timeline of the Color page, and choose Black Sun Highlight Correction from the contextual menu.
@@MichaelGreenwoodMG thank you
Beautiful footage. Have you had any issues with the Leica R lens and the speedbooster element, in terms of unintended contact? Or is there enough clearance?
Спасибо за обзор! Это лучшая камера👍я купил такую же BMCC 2.5K и не разу не пожалел что выбор пал на нее👍супер
This camera is great, but the risk of finding a replacement for the back monitor or HDMI makes it cost almost the same as the new pocket 4k. If you live in the us or australia it is easy to replace, but overseas, not much.
Yes I agree. There's a Smallrig cage with a method of clamping a micro HDMI cable into the micro HDMI port. It consists of a couple of M5 screws. I'd recommend fitting this and never removing it. The micro HDMI port is just too fragile.
@@MichaelGreenwoodMG indeed, I bought new cameras way more solid, anyways, the bm gave me a great time when it worked.
@@JoaoSilva22222 yes the Blackmagic cameras have come a long way, the 6K Pro is particularly great. Which cameras are you using now?
@@MichaelGreenwoodMG Right now i am using the a6300, the low light of that sensor is out of this world, besides it is sharp as hell, i even have to blur on post or with the use of lenses. When i retire it next year I will buy the new black magic pocket 4k, since i am specializing on grading and want to start working with more robust codecs that i miss like the prores.
Great video which program you use to render dng to videos of 2.5k files ..
Hi Raya, I'm using DaVinci Resolve Studio. It's great!
Sorry which version or number of davinci cause i used 17 and it failed
@@rajamnyama452 I use the free version of Davinci Resolve, the latest version, and it works fine. It did crash for me on my ancient 3630QM laptop, so maybe your PC is underpowered?
How do you manage focusing when on gimbal while also maintaining balance? I use it a lot handheld with a follow focus but have no experience on gimbals
I'd perhaps use a wireless follow focus or a Lidar system. Or I often just keep the F stop quite high maybe F10 so more is in focus. But this might not be too cinematic. I'd recommend something like a Tilta Nano.
I've had my camera for a couple of years and just about to go into pre-production using it. You mentioned about using a cable clamp for an external monitor, do you have any recommendations at all? I've tried searching for a cage or half cage with not much success... Many thanks
That's good to hear. You'd be looking for the SmallRig BMPCC Cage 2012 but it's no longer in production. So maybe a used deal on Ebay or similar? It came with 2 x M5 screws to secure the HDMI cable. I'd recommend securing it then never taking the cable out, just leaving the cage and the M5 screws in basically. Also, the cage is compatible with the SmallRig HDMI Cable Clamp 1521. Again this will no longer be in production I believe. Let's say you found the cage but it didn't have the screws with it (say the seller had lost them), then you can still buy the M5 screws separately with something like a SmallRig screws set. The SmallRig MD3184 comes with a few tools and screws. I tend to buy a lot of SmallRig stuff so quite like their products.
I tried the rokinon dsx set of lenses, but that 90° focus throw was brutal. I couldn't keep it.
Good example shots, I would just watch your White Balance
Love using the "old generation" of Blackmagic cine cameras. I have two BMPCC OG and I picked up a completely fitted out (500 GB Sandisk SSD, Rokinon 12mm Lens, 15mm rail mount and rails V mount battery, shoulder rig and cage) - BMCC MFT like mint in the original box for a very reasonable price ($720z). Now how can I go wrong for filming presentations? I record raw and run the SDI to a Blackmagic SDI to HDMI converter and on to the ATEM Mini Pro ISO for recording with other cameras in sync. I can then drop in the high-resolution RAW file into Resolve over the HDMI version and be sync'd. I also have a BMPCC 4K and the pixel race stops there. I keep this as a studio camera. I love these classic Blackmagic Cine cameras - they fit my requirements perfectly.
I think they're fantastic cameras and I'm glad to hear you're putting them to good use. I think they're really reliable workhorses. I haven't use an Atem yet but need to get one and the SDI to HDMI converter. I was looking at one of the Atems which has SDI but I think HDMI with a converter is the way to go. I really like the idea of editing a few cameras together whilst filming is taking place. This would save a lot of time in post. These camera are really good value for money at the moment for what you get especially if you can get a rig with it etc and what they can do. The SSDs are cost effective too and store a lot. I just keep buying more harddrives when I find deals on them.
@@MichaelGreenwoodMG Yes - I have picked up a second SSD - 256gb cheap also and have my eye out for more. Once the current project is completed, I wanted to try some of my classic Angenieux lenses on this camera - especially my 15-150 that was also a great find at a great price - much better than the 12-120's (which I also have) in my opinion and much rarer - still in the original box. I use the little primes on my OG's all the time. Just completes the ability to give some really great cinematic images.
Hello. Thanks for the very informative video. One question, I hope you can help me... I have recorded in ProRes and when I put it in my software (adobe premier) it reproduces what was recorded in fast motion, the same does not happen to me with the files recorded in RAW. Thanks in advance for your help.
Hi Gaston I am not sure. Have you tried DaVinci Resolve to see what results you get?
I didn't like the green/blue tint in the image nor the blown out sky. The dynamic range seems also small.
