The Ultimate Topwater Fly - Sipper Fly Tying Tutorial
The Sipper does it all. Wakes, Chugs, Pops and most importantly it catches fish. With the unique head design this allows you to fish a topwater where the fish can actually see the full baitfish profile subsurface. It has characteristics of a gurgler, a popper and a diver. You can scale this tie to match any size baitfish for your area or target species.
Use slow short constant twitches for a waking action to simulate a dying baitfish or use long aggressive strips for a popper and diver style action.
Redfish, Jacks, Snook, Bass and Juvenile Tarpon all love this fly. Tag us on Instagram with your Sippers and what they catch - @spacecoastflies

      Thank you. Gurglers are on of our favorite flies and we still fish them regularly. We made this Sipper so the fish actually sees a real baitfish profile slightly below the surface. Possibly helps when they have commitment issues :)

      I've tied a couple of these now and understand it a little better. Tail is knotted chenille threaded through foam, then the foam is super glued. The body is either orange foam or orange chenille underneath and white/pearl chenille on top, with white microchenille legs tied in like a pat's rubberleg. You can see straight through the white chenille. The whiskers, I have no clue. They might be cdc.

    Love the water this fly pushes, but I made 4 of these, and all 4 lasted 2-4 fish, and the foam snapped nearest the eye. What type of foam would y'all recommend? I fish primarily for striped bass and bluefish. All 4 were decent-sized flies, 2/0, about 4" long, maybe 8mm foam when glued.

    • @SpaceCoastFlies
      @SpaceCoastFlies 10 месяцев назад

      Sounds like you have had success for sure. I use mainly high density EVA foam normally . I have made a more stout version using cross cut foam same thickness (8mm) from rainys. It’s stiffer and might be better for those blues with teeth.

    • @SpaceCoastFlies
      @SpaceCoastFlies 11 месяцев назад

      We just use a thin coat of loctite water resistant super glue gel. It does not take much. Also you only really need to glue the head part together. The body stay together since it’s tied in.
