Using PROCESS for Mediation and Moderation Analysis
This video demonstrates the installation and application of the PROCESS Macro of SPSS (developed and shared by Andrew Hayes) for mediation and moderation analyses. (Sorry about the obnoxious mouse clicking throughout the video)

creating and using centered interaction terms for multiple regression using SPSS
Просмотров 54 тыс.9 лет назад
This video demonstrates how to create interaction terms between dichotomous variables (simple products) and between interval-level variables (products of deviation scores) for use in multiple regression with SPSS. Such interaction variables should only be entered into multiple regression after the main effect variables have been entered.

validation of a stepwise multiple regression using full and 75% training sample approach in SPSS
Просмотров 18 тыс.9 лет назад
This video demonstrates how to validate a stepwise multiple regression using SPSS. This validation procedure involves an initial stepwise regression on the full data set, then the same stepwise run on a random sample of 75% of the cases. The resulting equations of the full and "training" models are compared. Then the r-squared values of the training (75%) sample and validation sample (25%) are ...
hierarchical multiple regression with SPSS

This video illustrates how to conduct a hierarchical multiple regression using SPSS. There is also a brief discussion of how to interpret the results, with specific attention given to the additional variance accounted at each step of the hierarchical process.
validation of stepwise regression using full model and 75 percent training sample approach
Просмотров 2,1 тыс.9 лет назад
This video illustrates how to check the internal replicability (i.e. validation) of a stepwise multiple regression. The process involves initially running the stepwise on the full set, then running it again with a 75% random sample to compare whether the same variables are selected. Finally the r-squared values are compared between the 75% "training" sample and the 25% "validation sample to det...

Shouldnt it be: 'observed values - mean', instead of the other way around? You are subtracting the observed values from the means in this video.

this puts them together nicely; you could make an updated video with a more recent version of PROCESS, otherwise this sums up the issues that need to be addressed for my bachelor's dissertation when it comes to using SPSS for moderation / mediation; other presentations carry on for too long and don't cover the whole issues

I am trying to do a moderation analysis by using process v3.3. I have 3 moderators, 3 in dependent variables and a dependent variable. But in the output it doesn't give me the conditional statistics. What could be the reason? And also for 1 independent variable it doesn't give me the result at all. In the out put it says there is an error and calculation stopped. Could anyone say what is the reason and what am I doing wrong? I will really appreciate.

Thanks Danlei. It is a great free program. The newest version is a bit more challenging and I think you might have to buy the book to take full advantage. But the author still provides the older version (that I use here) and there are a few textbooks (e.g. Andy Fields) that give good information on how to use the software in more detail than I provide here. I apologize for this response being so late. I just saw the notice. I believe that internally replicating almost all analyses is a good practice. We run in to considerable trouble trying to externally replicate (duplicate) findings, and one reason may be that the findings were not sufficiently internally replicable to yield stable results. I recommend finding some way to internally validate/replicate most analyses for which you have sufficient sample size to accommodate the task...including hierarchical.

Hi everyone, I have two quick questions and I would really appreciate if you could help me out. Do you center dummy variables like for instance having four Nationalities, thus creating the dummy variables so British_dummy, Greek_dummy, Australian_dummy do i find the mean and subtract them? Also do you center transformed variables?

  • @tiffymag
    @tiffymag 8 лет назад

I agree. The deviation scores incorrectly indicate that individuals are below the mean (-1.43), when in fact they are +1.43 above the mean reading level. Not having this formula and +/- signs correct will complicate the interpretation of beta weights and correlation coefficients down the road. But, thank you for making this. :)

Thank you for uploading this informative video. The convention for creating centered scores, however, is to subtract the mean score from the individual score. You are subtracting the individual score from the mean. Overall, it does't matter but changes the direction of the interaction term.
