I just love that you use an Elite Inox bottleholder. I have two myself on my bikes, and they´re so nice (and very cool) 😁 Great looking bike!
Consider a Brooks B-66 or B-67 which is basically a B-17 with springs. it's takes the sting out of road shocks running high tire pressure.
Do you mind sharing the size of the frame, your height and inseam? Also how do you like how the frame fits you?

Nice video. I’m a fan of the B17 too. Just one thing I wanted to mention is that there are actually 3 colors available: black, brown and honey. You appear to have the honey color on your bike. Also, I’m curious what tires you have on your bike.
I'm curious too about the tires they do look great with the saddle, IMO..
That was a great way to show off the city! The 360-degree view really captures the energy of Tokyo from all angles, and it feels like I'm riding alongside you. The camera’s quality is impressive-especially for showing the buildings and street life. Definitely adds a cool, immersive element to your bike rides!
Nice bike mine hits my toes also
Gravity bleed is your friend, as are rim brakes😅
I find this very entertaining... thank you!
Same
Although I ride a Brompton and have done for years, I have always hankered after a Moulton too. Thanks for sharing this video
What's size frame?
Fantastic❤
"Man, you've been talking this whole time, aren't you tired?"
This is very soothing, including your smooth voice 😁 You seem to have lived quite a while in Japan?
Are you a gaijin?
Love the updates! Keep 'em coming (although I don't think there's anything left to update). Good luck on the Tour Divide next year. Hope you can document your Tour. ☺
Thank you very much for these videos. I am wanting to build a new endurance race rig and have been looking at the GT Grade frame. May I respectfully request your height and inseam length? I am 5'8-5'9 and 32 inseam so looking at both small and medium. I see you have a medium and wanted to compare. Thank you again and good luck it the Tour Divide.
Very, very cool! The fork looks like the RS Indy XC BITD, and the travel is about the same 😁
It does look good on there 😊
Very nice review, thanks a lot! On my first real bike in the early eighties, a Peugeot 10-speed, the saddle was a leather saddle. It took a good while to get used to it, but afterwards it was fantastic! And as I´m an older guy maybe I'll try a leather saddle again. But as I love Ti rails and the comfort it gives, it would have to have those 😁
Brooks do have a B17 model with titanium rails now, I have one on my Pashley and it’s lovely ….
Abou 9:19 t to install an Easton AX90 dropper post and 3d printed saddle on mine. And just ordered shimano GXR carbon wheelset. Cockpit and Sram etap are coming. I bought my Carbon Elite 2 weeks ago partly because of your first video. I love this thing
You mean 19LBS…or 9KG.
I found this video while looking for ways to set up my grade for light (LIGHT) touring, some overnight or weekend trips. I can't wait to see how you get this bike set up for ultra endurance riding.
That saddles got to go man! 🤦♂️
I replaced it with another B17. I used to scoff at Brooks too. But I can ride 200km on that saddle in complete comfort and not need padded cycing shorts.
The frame is on my list to buy here in the US. Unfortunately it's unavailable until (? spring or late 2025 I was told ) who knows when. I have a Topstone fully functional and I just didn't want to buy the full bike with subpar parts just for the frame. I may regret it next year though. The new price for the frame may be more than the cost of this built up bike.... Who knows. Any thoughts ?
aaand not taking it apart for us to see?
I had a Stowaway for years and loved it. To separate it, undo the internal clamp in the top of the main crossmember with an Allen key (one is supplied with a new bike). It takes some jerking and jiggling to make the joint slide apart, and when it does the male side is covered with grease, so you have to watch what it touches and put a plastic bag over it. No cables pass over the joint because the bike has a back-pedal brake and two-speed gear changed by a brief back-pedal. The carrier can also be removed but this is not necessary to get the halves into the back of a car.
I'm a fan of GT, and love the looks of that gravel. GT riders are nearly like a brotherhood. I own six GTs plus many other bikes and can't handle any more but that one makes me think about it. Looking forward to your video's with that GT.
Nice build - the loose rubber hoods on the STIs would drive me nuts, though :)
They are indeed loose, but the thin bar tape doesn’t help. Thicker tape, wrapped more closely fills in the gaps, and is more comfortable. I will replace the tape when I install my new fork.
Gravel's, the Worst of Two Worlds
A lot like smart phones
A place to ride is the key. I'm lucky because I live close to a National forest close to the ocean with wind nearly 24/7. I bought one way back just to try and it has become one of my favorite bikes. Cruisers will ride the roads but is very slow along with mtn bikes, but I can cover a lot of miles with a gravel bike. They have gotten so expensive now if I had to do it again I think I would build up an old school cross over bike but if you anywhere with a lot of dirt miles I promise you it will change your mind.
Really enjoying your series of videos. As a BMXer from the 80s, I love me some GT. Do you think the triple triangle design will interfere with puttin on a frame bag? Or will it clear between the seat stays?
The bag touches, but doesn’t interfere with the flex.
Same. I don't know if you remember the Bomb that GT made but that was my BMX. I've got to old to ride like that now so I just gave it away to a young fella that shows promise but I'll tell ya, it hurts but the joy this young fella has makes up for the hurt by a long shot. Is always nice hearing someone from the old school brotherhood
@@saddleweary2777 Unfortunately, BMX is one of those things we outgrow. I had a Schwinn Sting, I loved the chrome frame and blue anodized parts. I and my friends used to ride in the hills around the Brea dam in Orange County in Southern California. Unfortunately it's all concrete and McMansions today, but in those days it was a blast.
What is the weight of your bike?
It was 10.3kg with the original components. It’s a little lighter with the upgrades, I’ll put on the scale the next time I bring it upstairs.
Your bike looks excellent! I have to admit I´m thinking of getting a leather chair to replace my beloved Bonty Selle San Marco (Old skool). Have you only tried on Brooks?
This is a fucking beautiful bike
I just ordered the same bike should be here today. I have never owned a gravel bike before. I have a few high end full suspension mtb. I am sure i will be making upgrades to this bike but wanted to start with a good frame and couldn't beat the price of this bike
Cool, How's it been so far? I was thinking of picking it up. I mostly do Greenways and what not and the Mt Bike wouldn't be easily convertible to a Tri on the road and a road bike wouldn't be able to handle the mud and water that often coats the Greenway in addition to not being cross functional for light trail
Wow, awesome you're doing the Tour divide! I first got wind of the race via the film in 2011 I guess. I hope you plan on documenting it as best you can 😃
If you're going to go, you might as well go big. I'll definitely document it,
What tires are you goingbto run on the new wheels?
That's a tough question, but right now I'm leaning toward the Conti Race King.
This is inspiring. Need to get back on the bike after Land’s End to John o’ Groats several years ago. Thanks!
That's a ride I'd like to try,
That's a supercool build and super clean Moulton. Congrats and enjoy!
I like it
Thanks for posting that. When I stayed in Japan last year it was in Asaka. And I was considering exploring this trail (Kurome River trail somewhat connects to it). And It would be nice to go all the way to Tokyo or to the old town of Kawagoe. Well, although there are some bike rentals but not really in Asaka - not with road bikes. Anyway I had not enough time and some other plans. But now I know how nice it is. And will try to do it next time I'm there.
Another interesting video. I’m always amazed by the number of vending machines out in the streets and parks. They wouldn’t last two minutes in the UK, they tend to be indoors here.
Doraemon and Anpanman
1:38:20 this looks surreal, a lot of places feel so spacious and ...empty. For me, from what I have seen on YT, Tokyo associates with 3 types of places: 1) small 1-2 floors living houses with small roads inbetween; 2) Big empty streets/roads (the kinds you showed in this video); 3) Something like Shibuya Crossing with a lot of ppl. I haven't been to good EU cities but I think places with more history and more "let's make a cool looking city" approach are much less boring than Tokyo. The architecture seems to be lacking here. About your content. You need to improve the audio quality ASAP. I can barely hear you on my max volume. Audio quality is more important than the video tbh. And the scenery looks bland anyway. Otherwise a pretty helpful content you are making here. Keep it up!
What a beautiful day. Thanks for sharing your ride through the city.
Always nice to take these rides. Cherry Blossoms look amazing. You do a great service. And I couldn't help but laugh around 21:56 - 22:22 😄
Thanks for taking us on these rides with you. Just came back from Japan on April 1st (spent 1 month) and mostly focused on visiting smaller cities, town, villages this time. Too bad I didn't catch that many blooming trees this time but oh well, at least I get to see how it looks like in Tokyo now through your camera. Tried finding an RB67 film back this time but no luck, even in all the Tokyo stores... RBs are really hard to find nowdays, even more so when you need something outside of a full kit. But hey I scored a nice deal on a Minolta Spotmeter M for just 8.000yen in a Kitamura Camera in Fukuoka :)
One break ouch
Two brakes.
A sweet Bike
Your comment @ 38:09 to 38:12 nearly made me fall off my seat. Thank you for sharing this. It's always informative, entertaining, and relaxing. Cheers!
Great to hear your bike building journey notes and get some insight into the local environment, I have an old Australian mate (Pete Lavanda) living in Hiroshima with his Japanese Wife who is also into building small wheel bikes. Cheers from Sydney.
