Attention seeking behaviors can also be violent because they've been taught hitting, bitting, kicking, etc will get them instant gratification. I think some of these things are useful, but not for all students. What about the students that are nonverbal have intellectual disabilities and are volatile in seeking attention. They're volatile because it gets them what they want most of the time. What about the child that won't use visuals or ignore visuals?
Thank you for your comment. You are absolutely right! The video was more of a general overview. Perhaps I should make a video that goes deeper and focuses more on students with disabilities or extreme behaviors.
Hi, can i get the slide file?
ako po
The definition of a non-verbal learning disability is incorrect. NLD affects other, “non-verbal” kinds of learning like the ability to notice patterns and learn concepts. These include visual patterns, social patterns, and concepts in language and math.
Thank you 🙏🏽
Do not include a disorder associated with hearing, vision, motor problems ID/DD OR EBD
Correct. Those disabilities are in different categories. I have separate videos for those. ❤
I am grateful, for this enrichment. When I was in NYC, I worked at Bellevue Hospital Center, & in the Unit of TBI, the only adolescent I met there had other issues, I believe from birth, & acts like a 6 years old, unlike others, who were matured & had head injuries. The six years old adolescent had stayed in the hospital for more than 4 years & up. If NY had what I see here, as a Group Home, that is where he should have been, as Social workers could not get him a place & cannot be on his own & the family refuse to take him back, unfortunate situation indeed. He could not talk well, could not feed himself, Speech, Occupational & physical Therapists always at his corner working on him. Different sets of patients would be discharged, new admissions come & go, he was still there. Many of those TBI patients come with stiches on the head due to accident. It is awful experience. Thank you doctor, I gained, & will do my job better from this.
This was a masterclass for me. So appreciative!
thank you
Fantaastckk Thanks

Hi Dr. Please i wish to ask if you could help me recommend some schools here in UAE that are recognized by the government on special education, ABA training, be it online or face to face. Courses that one can do to boost up one's career and chances to get a job
The definition for Nonverbal learning disability is wrong. It is a disorder that causes difficulties with visual fine motor skills, visual spatial skills & social skills. Language concepts are usually an area of strength for these individuals. I have this learning disability myself.
How many learning disabilities are there that affect your ability to *understand* what you read or hear? That's my disability--slow processing and need for clarification. Any other learning disabilities like that? A list, perhaps?
Hi John! Thanks for watching my video. Other learning disabilities could be auditory or language processing disorders. You could be misinterpreting or not quite understanding what you are hearing. Of course for reading, there’s also Dyslexia.
@@DrCara I suppose I might have a language processing disorder. I have Autism Spectrum Disorder and a speech delay in preschool, so I had to repeat it. I'm kinda embarrassed about it, actually. But again, generally, throughout my whole life, I just can't quite grasp what people mean, so I need them to rephrase it, or I need to reread a quote from a book or a written task. I'm often "I don't get it" or "I don't quite see your point."
Amazing content! You should use promosm!!! ! It’s the best way to grow your channel quickly.
Thanks Dr. Cara, I have to facilitate a workshop on Number sense and this video really gave me some great ideas
Glad it was helpful! Thank you for watching! I added another video to the Strategies playlist about number sense. Hope that video helps too!
I have a mild intellectual disability. As an adult it's not as bad I might have hard times sometimes but I'm not stupid.
You are definitely not stupid. I really hate when others call those with ID stupid or retarded. Breaks my heart. Thanks for your comment!
Dr. Cara must be the life changer. I appreciate your efforts. I like your cool teaching laughs. Keep up your great work!
Thanks a million! I really appreciate your support!

Glad it was helpful! Thank you for watching.
Very instructive!!! I now understand that I may have one of the disabilities at a low rate. Also helps me to understand others and help them improve instead of being frustrated with anyone. Thanks Doctor Cara!
You are very welcome, Evelyne. I am excited to know the video was insightful. Thank you for watching.
Thank you for this. I never knew why my daughter was diagnosed with ID. She was diagnosed with microcephaly as a baby. She had Early intervention and early childhood. The early childhood teacher told me that microcephaly was brought on by drinking while pregnant, which I did not do, and that she would need a different diagnosis to get help. We chose to homeschool which brought her a long way until there was a huge regression. At that time we got her tested and we got a diagnosis of MODID. We work on life skills now and have a great time together.
Hi Jackie. You are very welcome. I'm saddened to hear you were told microcephaly was brought on by drinking. As I'm sure you already know, there are other causes, such as chromosomes, perhaps you had an infection during pregnancy, lack of oxygen to the baby's brain, etc. True, alcohol and drugs have also been found to be a cause, but they certainly are not the only cause. You did an excellent job implementing early intervention! I am now curious to know if the diagnosis of MODID is an additional diagnosis with IDDD?
What does Modid mean?
