Awesome! Thank you:)
You're welcome! Thanks for watching.
Thanks for showing it! Very different trailer indeed. First time seeing such a thing, sounds great tho.
@@ricardo.ambrogi thanks so much!
Thank you for this! I have a passion for more theatric music and wanna get into these sync libraries so this is great! 🙌🙌
@@Tazer_BLACC Amazing, thanks for watching.
Wow awesome video. I still struggle to know if I am structuring it right. Could I submit one to you for feedback?
@@gamernskater1991 sure! send it to me at michael@oconnorproductions.ca I'll take a look tomorrow.
Many thanks!
No problem! Thanks for watching
Very cool, thank you!
Thank you for checking out the video!
Well done! At 19:45 what are all the orange wave file tracks? Are they bounces from another VI, or just a bunch of perc sample wav files?
Hey thanks for checking out the video. Those orange wave files were a group I usually label "FX". It usually consists of trailer esque sounds like woosh hits, booms, risers, downers, etc. They can really help elevate the percussion when stacked together! I have so many of these files from different sample packs and virtual instruments. I usually just sort through them all until I find something that I'm looking for.
Great song, good to see you're back!
Thank you!
How many measure/seconds are normal for each act?
I'd try not to get hung up on how many seconds/measures for each act. I'd say most of the time the intro is the shortest of the 3 acts but it depends on what the publisher or client is looking for. Most trailer tracks probably range from like 2 minutes to 3:30. Start listening to trailer music on youtube and just take some mental notes of roughly how long each act seems to be. Thanks for watching!
Awesome track!!!
Thank you!
sub folders! Strings - strings high - strings high short Strings - strings high - strings high long Strings - strings low - strings low short Strings - strings low - strings low long So for example - "strings low LONG" will be routed to "strings low" , and that will be routed to "strings" ... then that will be routed to "orchestral" then that will be routed to 'Stereo out" The more detail the better! I have 3042 instruments in my template - there's sub folders in sub folders, in sub folders - colour coded and routed my parent folders are: 1.Horror FX 2.Sci-fi fx 3.Hits (includes downers, braams etc) 4.Drums 5.Transitions 6.Sound design (mainly synths, pulses, but also pads and atmospheres) 7.Orchestral Sections 8.Guitars I don't mind sharing this because It took me a long time and MANY hours to figure out what my parent folders should be - then sub folder from there!
Thank you for sharing!
Does this apply to trap trailer music too?
I haven't worked on trap trailer music before but generally this structure applies to most genres I've worked on. It depends what publishers are looking for but writing with this 3 act structure would pronably be a good starting point at least.

hey man! Found your channel only today. Wonderful content you have. It would be very interesting if you could do a walkthrough of your mixing and mastering process!
Hey! Thanks for the comment I appreciate it. I'll definitely have to make a video about mixing at some point. I'm still trying to improve them every new song I write. In terms of mastering I really leave that up to the library. I mostly try to create the best mix I can and take it from there.
Hello, there. Nice walkthrough. I stumbled across your channel a few days ago and I don't know if you take requests but I'd love if you can perhaps make a trailer track from scratch tutorial series for beginners like myself. I am personally struggling to make trailer music as I don't know how. I've attended/watched several courses and tutorials but I can't get all the information gathered online inside my brain. So, yeah I thought I'd ask here.
Hey I appreciate the request. It is something I'm hoping to do. I'm hoping to make a full course at some point. If you're struggling I would try pulling up a song you like then creating a song similar using the instruments in the song. It helps to imitate other people's songs so you better understand what goes into making the songs. Hopefully that helps, thanks for checking out the video.
@@oconnorproductions9598 Hello, there. I'd be happy to invest myself into the course but make it for beginners. Honestly, Rok Nardin - The Mad Devil would be nice to recreate
Yep i would defenitly watch videos like this☝
That was very helpfull thank you! I would be interested in how you did the sound on the bottom that gets higher along the whole track? I guess these are strings with pitch automations? Thank you!
Hey thanks for checking out the video. Could you give me a timestamp where you hear that sound? Hopefully I'll be able to explain it.
@@oconnorproductions9598 Hey I mean track that I think you call "riser". It is at the bottom and starts at 06:37.
@@samtelya yeah those could be strings it might be a synth or a combination. I'll sometimes make risers but I usually use risers that I've bought from different sound packs.
@@oconnorproductions9598 thanks man! :)
Are you EQing each drum patch as well ? For example take out any high end on the low end drums and vice versa on high end drums etc ?
I will normally consider Eqing based on how the mix is sounding. If I feel like parts of the percussion are getting in the way then I will EQ things out to clean things up. I generally don't EQ for the Sake of EQing.
Amazing 🤩 🎸🤘
🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
I agree with the other comments. Your content is quite good and you need to be making at least 1 video a week
Hey I appreciate that. I'm hoping to post more often come the fall. Thanks for checking out the video.
Excellent video, information, resource, and inspiration. Many thank to you. Is there anyway I could get a zipped file of this template...?

Syntorial 2.0 launching in a week!
No way I'll have to check it out!
Glad to see you're still making content. Love the drumroll.
I appreciate that. Thanks for continuing to watch.
Thanks for this! I am an inspiring songwriter/composer. I have no desire to be a sound designer, but I am beginning to believe that "rolling your own" is sometimes easier than spending nine years searching through myriad sound libraries and patches for the exactly right sound. Thanks to tutorials like this one, I am building up toolkit of techniques. I can see that a good use of my time would be to learn effects plugins like the ones you mention. I also plan to dive deep into a few synthesizer plugins, such as Arturia Pigments. Again, thanks.
Good luck Peter! It's definitely a good idea to dabble in sound design. It can be useful every now and again. Thanks for watching!
Yo sick intro! Looks super professional. Also is the mic an sm7b?
Thank you! It's an Audio-technica at2035
Can you send me the link...? I've done as required however, I continue to receive pages to install other extensions on my computer....
Hey! Just emailed you.
Hey everyone here's the song that we used as a reference from the matrix for this brief. My brain froze while recording and I couldn't remember the name. ruclips.net/video/pFS4zYWxzNA/видео.html
I think that if you double the same patch, you end up making it just louder not thicker. At least if it triggers the same samples. What I would try is to tune the other instrument up a couple of semitonds and transpose the midi down respectively. That way it would be slightly different and probably would work better. But havent tried this myself, I usually just layer different instruments but maybe have to try 😀
Hey! Thanks for the comment. Maybe I should have gone more in detail but yes, ideally you're using different patches and doubling but if you use the exact same instrument and mess around with it you can get some awesome results. You can add different reberbs, add distortion, change the panning, volume, mic position, etc. I just want to encourage people to try new things!
Hey everyone. Thanks for checking out my channel. During the video I mention my pal Joe Totino (I absolutely butchered the pronunciation, Joe please don't disown me). I wanted to link to his channel because he has some really amazing videos on his channel. I really like this track walkthrough he posted. Check him out! ruclips.net/video/Kay3cQLEDkg/видео.html&ab_channel=joetotino
sounds cool! what are the percussions used?
Hey thanks for watching. It was a combination of Damage 2, Devastator, and Strikeforce.
Hey Bro Track Was Fabulous Make Do More Tutorials 👌🤗
Thank you I appreciate it.
Hi,can you do a full tutorial trailer track production from scratch till to the end?
That is something I'm looking to do. Thanks for the suggestion.
@@oconnorproductions9598 i cant wait.
I have jaeger and love it, but I’ve been thinking about picking up Ark 1 for a while, mostly for layering purposes. Still undecided
Did you end up grabbing it? No pressure haha
@@oconnorproductions9598 I didn't unfortunately :( I may pick it up if they do another sale around Christmas time
Great video!
Good stuff! Very helpful tutorial.
No problemo, thanks for watching
Thanks. I have Nucleus I'm trying really hard to resist buying another one with all these sales
No problem. Don't feel like you need to buy anything. Nucleus is great.
Fantastic video. One of the best Percussion videos I have watched! It's motivating me to continue learning trailer music after I wanted to give up because i am having so much trouble getting the Percussion section to sound big. I think this is going to be a game changer for me!
Thank you for your kind words. We've all been at that point where we feel like we want to give up! Keep working and you'll see the improvement.
Hey all, I totally turned off the sound shifter after applying it to the sound. Woops! Anyways thanks for watching. Ps am I saying braam correctly? 😂
That's so helpful, thanks for the tutorial! ☺👍
Thank you so much for checking out the video!
Damn you Logic Pro! That was a really anti-climatic overload! 🤬 Jokes aside, great song Michael! And really helpful walktrough! As a beginner in orchestral/cinematic, i hope to be able to make something this good someday 🙌 I started with the well known freebies from Spitfire, ProjectSAM,... + Nucleus Lite few months ago and now i want to upgrade to Nucleus & Jaeger during the Black Friday sales. Besides cinematic/modern/hybrid style, do you think these purchases are good to make Dark Souls/Elden Ring style orchestral music? Thanks for the video and subscribed!
Hey! thank you so much for checking out the video and subscribing. I've never actually played Elden Ring but I just checked out some of the music to see if I have any recommendations. Jaeger is a really great library so I think you're on the right track using it. I find its more aggressive than nucleus is but nucleus is more diverse because it comes with some solo instruments and some woodwinds. If you're looking for other products, I would check out metropolis ark 1. Its a very epic, huge sounding library that would lend itself well to the Elden ring style music. I'm sure someone has done a really good breakdown of the sounds on RUclips. I would also consider Performance Samples' Oceania. Its a choir library and it has a similar vibe to the choirs used in Elden Ring.
@@oconnorproductions9598 Hi Michael, thank you for taking the time to response! I cheked your recomendations and i loved the sound of Ark 1, but i wanted individual sections for learning purposes (maybe next year :P) and Oceanias are really great choirs, but i don’t have Kontakt full so finally i decided to pick Nucleus + Jaeger (nice upgrade + crossgrade price) + Requiem Light Choir. Pretty overwhelmed by the content coming from Nucleus Lite, but really happy with the new musical arsenal :P Now it’s time to learn and practice and your channel will help a lot!
