I took out the Willys today to break in the transmission and transfer case after getting them back in. This mud hole put up more of a fight than I was anticipating. Music: Tab & A.U.R.C. MapQuest Jazzafari R.A.P. Little Glass Men Open Door

Episode 11. Troubleshooting a boat carburetor
Просмотров 487 лет назад
I thought I had lost this video when the drive went belly up. I helped a buddy get his boat going over the summer after sitting for years. I had it running from a gas can because the tank was left open to the elements. He got the tank "cleaned" and was having issues so I stopped by to lend a hand.
My Old POS Episode 10. Installing Linux on the Western Digital DX4000

I started playing around with this NAS after failing miserably last time and figured out how to use "incompatible" drives with it. Follow along as we circumvent artificial restrictions.

I picked up this NAS system from a client and tried to resurrect it for them but it seems pretty hosed. This is that story.
A moment of Zen. One hour of puppy play at the dog park.

Thanks for 400 views! The following video is a first person view of one of our puppies Tasha, with some calming background music. It has only (barely) been edited for length and RUclips trying to stabilize it. Parts are slowly rolling in so more videos should be coming shortly. Thanks again for watching! Please enjoy your hour of Zen.
A couple pulls in the DJ5 Postal Jeep to clear out the carb.

The weather was beautiful today so I took the DJ5 to pick up a friend and head over to Formfest. I figured I would use the opportunity to clean out the carb tubes a bit by doing a few WOT pulls ;) Enjoy .

My Old POS Episode 7. Waterblock Repair and System Test!

I apologize in advance. I took down the previous video and had to redo it due to my idiocy, and in the process, managed to overwrite the videos on my media card. I did my best to get it back together. In this episode I get the water block back together and the system together and tested. I know, I know, You can hardly contain your enthusiasm. If the 100 degree heat breaks some day I can get bac...

While I'm waiting on a few parts I took the opportunity to hang out with some friends at an SCCA Autocross event. They are racing on a cone course set up at the fairgrounds. I even got to go around the course a few times in my buddy's 2005 Civic. EDIT: Sorry I apparently don't know how the annotation thingy works on RUclipss so here's the SCCA link: www.scca.com/

Anyone doing this in 2024. Couple of tips. 1 - Use two small Flash-Drives as they are cheap and it's easier to for you to have a NAS-Recovery Drive in case you need to reset/whitelist drives and OS-Install/Recovery Drive for re-installation in case something goes off the rails or you need that whitelist file mentioned in the video again. Now when you get to download and setup wizard. You cannot use Windows Edge, or Chrome as you'll receive the error: "The connection for this site is not secure "Web Address" uses an unsupported protocol. ERR_SSL_VERSION_OR_CIPHER_MISMATCH" when you get to the screen with either the product key entry or to the set up the password for the account. Only way around this is the following: - Download and Install Firefox - Go to Firefox Settings - Turn off pop-up blockers - In address bar Enter "about:config" --> "Accept Risk and Continue" - Locate "security.tls.version.min" and select the pencil icon - Set to "1" and click the checkmark - Close/Reopen Firefox - Then continue with the web address noted to download and run then setup wizard and should be good to go.
So what fixed the hot start problem….?
That doesn't actually bypass the one on the starter motor it acts in sequence....so if the one on the starter burns out it will not start.right? Cause i am also an untrained idiot.
but u dont need that external solenoid to do that. u can just arc the connections on the solenoid at the starter.just saying
Get rid of the glass fuel filter unless you like fire.
Put the hdd in a computer and install the OS image and set up with the computer with all updates then transplanted the hdd to the nas and done it will work
Hi. How do you fix/repair Startup Failed: 0xD9 on your previous video?
I needed to know where the wires attached as my mini starter has no markings other than 9905. The alternator wire hook up is the only one I couldn't tell where it attached but other than that, I liked your video. Thanks
Did you try replacing the ram?
Fuck... don't tell me that I6 sound so nasty at WOT?
Just wanted to say this video was uploaded 7 years ago and it brought my old DX4000 I found digging through my old storage back to life. Followed your vid plopped in some SSDs, adjusted the whitelist and its alive!
Unreal info.
good presentation. i have a dx4000 that I am prepping and planning to repurpose.
My starter didn't come with bolts how do I find the bolts sir
I just bought this for cheap, I put TrueNas on it, what I did was Solder the reset button so when you press the power button, it goes to recovery mode which then boots from USB, And even to my surprise, Truenas works pretty well with 2gb of ram, a lot better than I expected..
Was there any instructions you followed for figuring this out? I love to get true nas on mine...
Me as well, let me know if you get an update@@wallsofjoeco
Nice!!!! A Jeep with sbc and the killer head swap!!! I’ve got the sbc swap done, and have built my Vortecs to swap on with a 292 cam, but scared to death to do a cam swap right now, with all the failures! So I’m thinking about just swapping the Vortec heads only for now….. how much difference did you see/ feel with the head swap alone?
👍
where can i get the recovery file?
if this happens to you ------try this no start just click jump start just clicks short to solenoid no start??????????use starer cable both ends red or black conn 1 end battery gd black the other end any metal on eng or frame bingo she will start right up ----whats wrong -- the neg battery cable is loose where it i s fastened to chassis so that the neg is missing do not turn off till you get that bolt tighten
IF YOU ARE STRANDED with a clicking solenoid try this method to get going in nuteral brake on switch in run pos raise hood a short piece of wire #6 or so or a pair of pliers simply short two big lug on solenoid if battery ok it will crank up
Let's say your silinoed on your starter wasn't working and you added this Ford style silinoed would it still work?
I wired my with a 3 prong and it click real loud turned over and started but I didn't care for the clicking sounds
Everybody enjoys a good reach around hahaha 👍
Yo quisiera saber cómo van los cables de la caja de fuse al artenador
Hallo, great video! but what with pin close by start pin? This second without cable? Just live it free?
thanks
@1:28 - That was a very ugly thing to say in public. There are people still left that try to stay clean on the inside of their mind. It's also not true.
Did you ever figure out your hot start problem?
Quick, easy, no brain farts. done. How Life should be .
I am going to Raspberry Pi my DX-4000. It's so bloody old that new circuitry is preferred , at least by me. But this was a very well done video!!
What .XLS editor did you use? Excel, or some generic one?
Thank you soo much for the detailed video. While HDD formating do you see any activity? because mine says formating but i don't see any light blinking (HDD Activity)
The PCIe port on that board is for the drives and will not support video, it is a custom wired port.
not feeling the camera on the dog
I just got a DX-4000 and it would power up and then power right back down again. Getting into it, I removed the PCB and found the CPU heat sink had come lose at one foot. This was causing the CPU to overheat really quick and then shut down. I also looked over the WD mechanics of how they mounted it and decided that WD mounted it the wrong way. They have the springs under the heat sink feet pushing up on the heat sink sdo it wants to go away from the CPU. The springs should have been on the other side of the board secured by nuts. I got some 4/40 by 1 inch screws and nuts and since one of my original springs was missing I took a spring out of a ball point pen and cut off two pieces of the correct length as this spring fit the 4/40 screws perfectly. So the screws go through the heat sink, through the pcb, through the springs and are secured by a nut and Loctite. If the lid is off you would see the springs and nuts.
My SSD isn't recognized at all - it seems to report it as non-existant. However, when I use it with a desktop (in a SATA caddy) it works fine. :-(
i cant get this thing to work anymore. did my usb and test boot on laptop, boot fine. but when pressing reset button, it wont go to recovery started mode. sigh. loosing my mind here lol
Just in case someone else out there comes across this video and wants to repurpose these units, refer to ruclips.net/video/amUXkdGdcTg/видео.html
The port on this motherboard which looks similar to PCI-e x2 or x4 is definitely NOT A PCI express PORT!!!! You can't connect to this port any PCI-express device. This port provides 4 SATA connectivity between the motherboard SATA controller and 4 SATA ports on disk backplane. The video output from this motherboard is not available, but there are 30 solder pads for LVDs connector on the motherboard back close to the BIOS battery (look at 3:19). I'm wondering does anyone had tried to solder there an LVD socket and checked for the video signal.
I love how at 25:27 the whole firewall flexes when you pump the gas. Those DJ mail jeeps would sell at public auction for $50. A great platform for basically ANYTHING.
Good video, i noticed the Jeep is RHD. I live in the UK so was curious. Is it an old US mail vehicle ?
Glad I watched this. I just put a mini starter in my Jeep which I have a Chevy 4.3 engine. It kept grinding. Now I know to shim the mounting block with the spacers.
Thank you very helpful.
fuckyou.jpg lol :)
storage bad
I have the same problem with my 1987 Fleetwood Bounder RV. As soon as it gets hot, it won't crank over unless I let it cool off a little. It has headers and a 454ci Chevy engine. I've gone thru 2 OEM starters already and I am going with the mini starter idea. Your video was very informative and humorous at the same time. You gotta laugh at yourself from time to time. I do right after saying the F word a few times. I'm looking forward to the final results. Thanks.
Good stuff bro, nicely detailed. Very helpful. Keep up the good work.
Please use the serial port on the motherboard to connect a serial terminal (or null modem + pc + putty). The bios is reachable via the serial console, so is the Linux console with some very light mods to the conf files of the installer ...
Did this today after trying to follow the video a couple times. Problem with the video I found is, even if ubuntu gets installed, after a reboot the NAS doesn't boot back to Ubuntu. I got the TTL to USB serial convertor off amazon, it came with some cables which I cut and spliced then soldered to 3 of the 4 pads on the front left side of the MoBo. (Side with the drives). Plugged the adapter into my laptop via USB, got the driver and boom COM3 popped up. So I went into Putty, selected serial and put com3 for address. rebooted the nas then in my putty session is as able to see the bios key, delete. Spammed delete which took me into bios, from there you HAVE to disable a setting that forces the nas to boot to WD specific partition. Also had to disable all the other Boot options and only have the ubuntu USB selected. No idea how the video creator got around this, maybe he never actually tested a reboot? Not sure.
Said it and made it simple , Thanks very helpful.
