Bow Makers in 3 Minutes: Jean-Jacques Millant | Bishop Instruments & Bows
All the Charles Peccatte Cello bows I have played have been the best bows I have ever played. Far superior to the sturdier Sartory sound/bow or the spongier Lamy sticks in my experience. I’ve never considered their workmanship I suppose but always been convinced of his genius!
Wilkinson renowned for making them out of suitable wooden house doors. His son John made violins and bows too. Lived in the Catford SE London area
Happy to see you back in action, Sean. Keep em coming.
@@duggiefresh8170 that was a tester! Will start doing lots.
Wow, the sound of the G string on those violins are incredible!
I've got a Rudolf Buchner Violin. Also a nice one.
WOW excellent bow!!
Sometime soon the Mckay Strad will go viral! be sure to see the short clip by professor Dr. Paolo Cherubini.
The entire violin industry has gone out of it's mind, with people pretending $20,000 is a good deal for a bow, and any chinese violin is worth $10,000.
Why can't a Chinese violin be worth $10k? And the market for bows has bows from $10 to $500k. Something for everyone. And thankfully no one is ever forced to buy anything. Grandpa's cheap violin and bent bow my be a perfect match for some! Cheers!
Nice Stamitz ;)
I think I have my trip organized to London (and Alton) for some west end, the National Gallery, St Martin in the Fields and - believe it or not, I have a strange craving for Pie and Mash. So if you see an old guy with his nose pressed against the window of your shop staring at the violins and bows, that's me doing some serious window shopping! 😊
Powerful fiddle
I really enjoy Sean’s videos
Thanks Andy!
I think Fagnola's f holes look better than Guadagnini's, which are further apart and are often inexact.
At 4:14, you mentioned the price of the Vuillaume at £300,000. Just for fun I took a look at that in Canadian dollars and it's $515,100.00. I'd have to work 7 years straight, no food, rent, violin strings (or taxes 😫) to be able to think about the violin. Then there's the VAT - it was 20% when I was living in England - that adds another $103,000 to the price. Maybe, just maybe if I win the lottery... 😂!
Sadly so!
I was listening
That Vuillaume sounds so deep. I guess Hilary Hahn has discovered qualities on them that are second to none. She must be the soloist with the cheapest instrument. Vuilllaumes are expensive but drastically cheaper than the other master violins.
Yes. Certainly the top level JBV's can compete with the very best Italians.
The first viola have a deep outstanding sound, the second in comparison has discolored and metallic sound !
Hi, I enjoy your videos, but you are the WORST demonstrator of a violin. Maybe if you drank less coffee... 😊
I try my best. 🙏
@@bishopinstrumentsbows6530 Au contraire, sir. Those are great instruments and great bows. Please take just a little more time with them. You play well, that's certain, but it looks like you're really rushed with each one and just want to get it over with. Even though we poor listeners may never have one of those instruments, we'd still like to savor the sound a bit more. In any case, keep up the good work!
How does it sound live under the ear? Hard to tell through a cell phone speaker! Gorgeous fiddle.
Sounds better now we had my new guy set it up!
So much information in those vids! Thank you so so much!!
Good show, as always...
So, interesting😊
Your playing is as pristine as your biting critiques!
This youtube channel should get more views, great information provided!!
i'd like to know which Guadagnini model exactly is the second violin based off, my violin a Paul Bailly got the same look, one piece back and same little discoloration circle on top
I'm not sure if Paul Bailly ever made any Guadagnini models. Fagnola, of Turin, made Guadagnini Turin models! The label states Turin 1773
can i maybe send you some photos so you can tell me which model does it look like ?@@bishopinstrumentsbows6530
I always found the similarities between fagnola and pressenda violins to be very inspiring.
Totally! I saw a serious copy that only Charles Beare could say was Fagnola!
All violas should be auditioned with the arpeggione. 😊
Problem is I last played it 25 years ago! I think I'll get the music!!😉👍
I won my first professional job with it.
Agreed, hard to decide between the two of them, both sound beautiful. I beleive I can hear that they are sibling violas! BTW, nice Schubert playing...
6:43 " enough playing at your desk?"! You sound 100x better than the great A. Tamestit in my opinion. I don't think his Strad sounds very nice at all. I don't know if it's the current setup with an odd soundpost placement or whatever... but if he played on THAT Parnormo viola: that would be a real treat.
Wow 😮it’s such a dream come true to be able to visit your shop and try some violins and bows ❤, wow didn’t know you’re selling the twosetviolin old violin 🎻 😅😊 very interesting to know 😊
I recall 2 violins by Postiglione - Naples school, besides a (or the) dellaCorta, displayed in a prior video. Nice collection !
I've had quite a few. I do love the Naples makers!
Love your presentation, and look forward to more cameos.😅
Enjoyed the hot of the press Del Gesu! Most greatful for your playing the instruments!. Really appreciate the effort. I used to own an inherited Sears and Roebuck 1720 copy Cremona Straduarius. She had always since I knew her aglue crack in left lower bout. She played well enough through grammar school untill I became disillusioned in sixth grade. It was probably a German replica but had nice wide ribbon back. Do you ever run accross any of those 1850 Strad copys? She was basically honey amber reddish or orangeish brown. Thanks for any free help. Yours very truly c.e.usa😅
Not really my area!
I thank you for showing your wonderful collection of violins. Thank you for your brevity and knowledge.
This is a real posh shop. You've got a good thing going, good sir!
❤❤❤❤
Did you sell your Audinot?
Not yet! Very nice example.
@@bishopinstrumentsbows6530 I didn't see it in your video.
Still playing the lovely Vincenzo Sannino although I’m still getting use to playing high octaves on that one😅. Would love to play the Vuillaume at some point😊
Feel free to visit anytime! Glad to hear it's going well. That was a great violin you got!
Thibout! Not Thibaud! Because is the maker Jaques - Pierre and not the violinist. And it is not "under 100k" it is about 50k... And Cesare Candi is Bologna school... Shame! Too much profit, not enough knowledge... Oh and Marchetti comes after Fagnola, not before. So I hope you sell your Fagnola cheaper and not raise the price for Marchetti more than Fagnola
Ha! Sorry if my Australian accent doesn't do justice to a french makers name. Thibout is what I said! Sorry to say, it's definitely not £50k. It's as I said "under £100k"! Simple. Luckily, I never force anyone to buy a violin. Candi is NOT Bologna school. Certainly born there but he is integral to the modern Genovese style. Feel free to argue but every book and every major dealer will agree ! Marchetti came before Fagnola as a maker! Even the fact that My Marchetti is 1898 should tell you that! Fagnola hadn't even made a violin then.
@@AdamantSeraph well, I own 2 Fagnola and 3 Marchetti instruments. Fagnola is my favourite 20th Century maker.
Very enjoyable and informative. Thanks. Will be looking for more in the new year
Amazing viola, wish i could win the lottery
Merry Christmas🎉
The criminal Voller brothers... The best Hart & Son exact copies have their label encrypted F a g n o l a...
I love this viola❤!
Sold it very quickly!
I would love to watch this video but unfortunately the room noise is distorting your voice. My suggestion is get a lav microphone. If good sound is the end result of these Violins, you need to start with good sound to describe them.
Sorry, I do have a microphone but forgot it when I was filming! It was off the cuff stuff!
I’m quite sure that these are all out of my reach. But all exquisite, nonetheless. Thanks for showing them off.
Thank you very much for your kind Information dear Mr Bishop 🙏 If I would live by you in 🇬🇧,I would have gone and informed from you with Violas and Viola Bows!!! @@bishopinstrumentsbows6530 Hallo dear Mr. Bishop; Please forgive me,Mr Bishop,I did not mean to offend you in any way! Nor to leave you standing there rudely!!!
