    Granted your layout is smaller than mine and I stayed with the postwar type layout idea But on my layout I haven’t actually drilled and wire holes into the table just incase I decide to move or add anything. Which adding has definitely happened. All my wires just come up from edges of the layout near whatever it is for. Luckily by using the style where the red and black wires are surrounded by a gray outer shell (speaker wire I think it is) It actually ended up having a really cool look seeing the wires

This creation we live in is for one week . Ponder that, a day unto God is as 1,000 years onto man and then all of creation is done away and a new world is made. If a spouse or relative thinks your obsessed with your creation destruction and recreation tell them you inherited it .

    One reason I'm a fan of MTH's Railking locomotives, you get a modern locomotive with all the bells and whistles (please excuse the pun), but can still negotiate the tight curves of a traditional style layout. Speaking of, it's nice to see a traditional style layout for a change when all the buzz seems to be about doing big (and expensive) scale layouts. Have an O-27 one myself, have a tiny train room and had the make the most of the real estate.

    • @aidan-hill
      @aidan-hill Месяц назад

      100% agree on the point about simple small layouts versus the big ones. One day I would like to build something for my Legacy engines, but even then, I’m envisioning something like a shelf layout with two loops and scenery on the edge. Some of those big layouts really are beautiful works of art, but it also does fuel a certain kind of FOMO I think…which is not healthy especially given the price point of the hobby. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed building this layout because the small space does really demand creative use of every inch, plus the end is much closer in sight - it’s not an impossible task to “finish” it. And frankly, I can count on these vintage pieces continuing their longevity with the build quality. I mean, do we really appreciate how some of these trains and accessories still operate 60, 70, 80 years after production?

    • @Shipwright1918
      @Shipwright1918 Месяц назад

      Well, the manufacturers fuel the FOMO to some degree, some more than others, as at the end of the day they're trying to sell product. I like my modern equipment just fine, some of the features are quite amazing, but I'm equally impressed that my eldest tinplate engine is 94 years old and still running strong. With good care and maintenance it will likely keep going long after I'm gone. What I really like are all the operating accessories, something you just don't see in the other scales anymore. Guess I'm a big kid at heart, but I get a big kick out of loading up logs and sending them over to the sawmill to be hewn into the little boards, having real coal to load and dump out, mailbags to pick up and drop off, a water tower with real water in it for the steam engines, milk cans to be unloaded at the dairy, reefers to be iced down with little cubes of ice, and so on.

    Thanks for the history, and the background information. I saw there you had a pliers with a groove there near the tip. Did you make that part of the tool or did you buy it that way? The only ones I have bought were former long nose pliers and then don't have the strength, but they do work to fix the end of the track so the pins fit well. As for your track cleaning, just be aware many of the older and some modern Lionel use magnetic wheels on the engine or have DC can motors in the power trucks. They will pick up any metal particles and get into the gears and the motors and ruin them quickly. The better cleaner to use is scotch brite and pads like them that are not metal, and then vacuum up or wipe up well any cleaning residue..

      Thank you! Rare indeed...what's amazing is that it's a relatively easy way to include a quick "motet" at a Mass if needed: pick a chant hymn, and improvise some little versets between, or use existing ones like this and piece something together. And - I think it appropriately preserves this method of alternatim, not fossilizing it in the Baroque period. As for the tone - it's tone 1D, which includes the little descending figure at the end.

      Thank you so much for responding so promptly, Aidan. I am thinking of doing this at my Advent Organ Series (it is rather long for Lessons and Carols). I am familiar with Organ and Chant from my studies of Tallis but I have heard one performed. I am lucky to have a group of music enthusiasts who like to learn about how pieces were authentically performed and the history of composers and their works - or, at least, they indulge my interests. I am enjoying your music very much and I thank you for your generous spirit in sharing your gift. All the best.

    I have heard the Prelude and Fugue in c minor BWV 546 many times, on various organs, and I really liked Aídan, including your magnificent interpretation, very well played. Congratulations, affectionate greetings from the east of the Kingdom of Spain.😊👍😊
