Salad Fork (mini Voron Trident) 3D Printer Build
This is video showing my completed build of the Salad Fork v1.1 3D printer. Salad Fork is a fork (hence the name) of the Voron Trident. It's scaled down to 1515 extrusions. This printer uses the DragonBurner toolhead, a LDO orbiter v2.0 extruder, an E3D Revo hotend, a Klicky probe, ZeroPanels panel clips, a Manta M80 v2.0 controller board with a Raspberry Pi CM4, and an EBB36 toolhead board. Connection between the controller and the toolhead board is via CANBUS.
The printer uses a small pins mod that I created and contributed back to the Salad Fork project. This swaps out captive pins for the screws that serve as axles for the X/Y axis idlers.
The build was fairly trouble-free, with one ex...

This enhancement uses a piezo-electric crystal and some analog circuitry to generate pulses as each cat treat hits the bowl. The microcontroller counts these pulses and uses this to stop dispensing treats when the appropriate number of been dispensed. The video was originally po...

      @@JennaToolls Oh, ok! The noise turned out to just be motor resonance for the A/B stepper motors. I changed homing speed and don't notice it much anymore.

    Hey, sorry for asking here as comments are closed... how did solve the noise issue on your Trident? (video 10 months ago) what was the issue? a bearing, a rail, some other mechanic or a config? thank you

    Did you get a solve for this? Mine makes this sort of noise every now and then, and with increasing frequency. Sounds like something coming loose, but I can't figure out what.

    • @mghumphrey
      @mghumphrey 6 лет назад

      Yeah, I printed an alternate x-axis idler holder. The Prusa design has a flaw that lets the idler tilt, which is what was causing the issue. It's very quiet now, and the the belt doesn't twist anymore. Here is the STL file: www.thingiverse.com/thing:2939488

    Sounds like the belt is rubbing. Is the belt running straight? Or is it rubbing against a printed part?

    • @mghumphrey
      @mghumphrey 6 лет назад

      Glen - thanks. I think you are right. I had the extruder cover off to work on x-axis belt tension, and while I was in there I noticed that the belt wasn't fully seated in the holder. I think this was enough to give the belt a slight cant, as when I corrected it and reassembled everything, the noise is now gone.

    • @mghumphrey

      I am not very happy with it right now. It was not really ready when they released it, and there are still issues even today. For example, the way that it measures height above the bed (the PINDA probe) is temperature sensitive, and although they have the hardware in there to measure the temperature so that they can compensate for this, there are bugs in the algorithm and so this doesn't work. This leads to inconsistent first-layer "squish". Also, they rely on measurements of the bed height at various points, and then try and compensate for this. However, this just isn't working well, so you get inconsistent prints depending on over what area of the bed the extruder is. The instructions didn't mention that the bearings need to be cleaned of the rust-prevention oil and then greased, so now I will have to take everything apart again and do that. Honestly, I wish I had paid half the price and just gotten a Tevo Tornado.

      I know how steppers work, and I understand now that it's "normal" for this printer, but it's indicative of not very good circuit design on the part of Prusa.

    Can you program this to dispense food based on sound. Basically, my dog suffers from separation anxiety, and I would like to know if you can program it to dispense treats, only if there has been no sound, i.e dog barking or howling for a set time. I feel this would be a great training aid for my dog to realise she will get a treat if she's quiet whilst I'm out. Thanks, great video.

      Hey man! I am not sure if you found out the answer yet, or not. It is not that hard to make that happen! Since it is a raspberry PI, you can just attach an USB microphone, and make a little python app, that looks for any type of sound. The calibration process, may need some time, because, if the dog walks around, depending on the collar or other factors, there may be some sounds. Maybe you can play around with pattern recognition and try to record some of the sounds that your dog makes. Still, to be triggered from time to time if there was no sound, that is not hard, but there are many variables, to make it function properly, if you just want it to work, if your dog hasn't been barking or howling for a longer while. We can recognize the sound differences, and also our brains filter out what we want, or don't want to hear, but for a computer it is just electronic impulses. Hope this helps, if you need more specific directions, feel free to give a reply!
