    You have to work the jaws of the clamps into the post a little to ensure a good connection before testing. You can't just clip them on.

    Just picked up one of these load testers. The 15 second timer actually starts as soon as you start placing a load on it, not once you reach your target amp rating. You're usually only on your target load for 3 or 4 seconds because of how much you have to turn the knob to get there.

    I’m wondering if there’s a better modern alternative like a digital load tester or variable load tester that can be used at a range of voltages or something. I think I’ve seen things like that usually with fans or something

    What’s the difference between a 500amp and a 100amp load tester

    • @pcrb141
      @pcrb141 Год назад

      the amperage rating of the load tester tells you how much current it can draw from the battery. the higher the amperage drawn, the greater the demand you place on the battery. the battery's voltage will fall as the load goes up since you are pulling stored charge from one side and distributing it to the other side until they even out and thus there will be OV difference in potential energy between the two sides. Such a battery has no energy to power anything. It is also useless if there is a measurable voltage difference, but that difference isn't sufficient to meet the demands of the device it is supposed to power. As an example, Autozone uses a 100amp tester. It draws 100A from the battery for xSeconds. If the battery can maintain 12V or higher for that time, Autozone says the battery is good. The problem with that is that your vehicle's manufacturer may actually have a higher standard set than that to rate a battery as good because the vehicle may need to draw more than 100A to get started. Get your vehicle's repair manual to find out what that specification is for your vehicle, and make sure that your battery can maintain it. This thing I have learned though as a DIY mechanic is that you don't even need a load tester. If you think your battery is weak, then charge it on an external charger, or pull the battery and connect it to a good running vehicle. Your battery should be able to be charged in a few minutes with the vehicle-charging method. It may even take up to 30min if it was deeply discharged. Either way, once the battery has reached 12.6V, it should be able to start it's own vehicle. if it can't start the vehicle, go buy a new battery. If the battery can only start the car properly once on a 5min car ride, then the battery is weak. Replace it. If your routine is 5min car rides, an occasional trip, maybe once a week of double that time should be fine to maintain your battery. If you account for idle time spent running, you probably never even need to go out of your way to allow the car to run just to maintain the battery.

      @@404notfound..... I don’t have a load tester so I’m trying to sus out the heath of my battery with a multimeter on one of my motorcycles it drops pretty low when just turning on accessory mode. Like as low as 12.13-12.24….and hangs out around there in accessory mode, this is when it’s at a resting voltage of 12.6. When it’s at like 12.8-12.85 it doesn’t drop as low but relatively speaking it still drops. I don’t recall how low it drops during starting. I was worried I damaged it because I put it on the charger and left it in 10amp boost mode for like 12-18 hours. So it was charging at like 14 volts and as high as 10 amps. Obviously it started drawing very little amperage at all eventually but I’m not sure if that would damage the battery or not. It sat around 13 volts with a surface charge and after putting a small load on it it recovers to between 12.8 and 12.9, but not sure if the actual capacity has been lowered because as we know voltage alone means nothing

      @@AppleiOSGenius Again.... what are you talking about mate something seems to be wrong with you you seem full of hate OK LET ME EXPLAIN, i mean i thought it was obvious but,... apparently not 1. I'm not yelling, what makes you think you i'm yelling . You see, Just because you say something about me , doesn't necessarily mean it's a fact IT'S JUST YOUR ASSUMPTION 2. i do really know the answer , BECAUSE I OWN THIS PIECE OF TECH 3. i'm not being bossy.... again... You're just assuming shit what i'm trying to do is to be helpful 4. I didn't give the answer because I WANTED TO GIVE THE OWNER OF THE CHANNEL AN OPPORTUNITY TO MAKE A FUCKING VIDEO ON IT ... Was that not obvious ?? But ok, you want the answer Here we go..... Fluke has a trademark feature called "EXACT PAIR IDENTIFICATION" the way it works is ... inside the main unit there is a micro-controller , and this micro among a lot of other things has the ability to CHANGE RING TONE (let's just call a ring tone for simplicity sake because everyone understands that) so what you do from your end is ... SCENARIO : say you have toned out a cable pair in UTP cable , let's say you are on the Blue /White Pair but there are 30 cables in the bundle and you tone them out and it comes down to 5 YOU LITERALLY CAN'T TELL THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN WHICH ONE IT WOULD BE Here is how Exact Pair Identification works... YOU TAKE THE 2 CONDUCTORS AND YOU SHORT CIRCUIT THEM (Touch them together for more than 1 second) Doing so will create a LOW RESISTANCE, HIGH CURRENT situation in the micro controller When this happens THE MICRO CHANGES THE RINGTONE if you do it again it cycles through to the next one, i think there are 5 in all so... Basically you can identify the correct pair because the cable that your main unit is attached to will only cycle through the tones if it senses a short circuit that's how Exact pair identification works it's better to show it in a video but again... if i didn't give you the answer you'd proceed to be a dickhead and say that i was witholding things not that there is a reason to withhold, i mean.. this is public knowledge but... You seem to be being an idiot for some reason so... yeah.. THERE YOU GO........EXACT PAIR IDENTIFICATION and it was kinda an important point of this toner a really big feature indeed that separates this toner from standard toners a standard toner does not have this feature and therefore when you have 5 pairs to choose from, you can basically kiss your toner goodbye as it becomes useless i reckon all toners should come with this feature, but..... FLUKE TRADEMARKED THE FEATURE so.... yeah anyway I'm just waiting to see at what point your going to come to your sense and apologize

      @@MrWzeljunior well i know everything about it , What questions do you have ? The main thing to understand about any instrument is WHAT DOES IT DO ? This does 3 main things 1. Puts a Tone on a line Via Alligator clips 2. Puts a Tone on a Line Via 6P4C Plug 3. Uses (a fluke specific technology) called "EXACT PAIR IDENTIFICATION" AND WHAT THAT DOES IS .... When you think you've identified a pair YOU SHORT CIRCUIT THE 2 WIRES and if those wires are the correct wires that the tone is on the instrument will change ring tone (The way it does this is by sensing the change in resistance when going Short Circuit) this condition can only happen if the 2 wires in question are short circuited BUT THE KEY TO THESE THINGS IS IMPROVISING AND USING YOUR IMAGINATION Example : Knowing that exact pair identification changes tone when you short the wires in question, Imagine you go up to a pair and put a tone on (NOT HAVING ANY CLUE HOW EXACT PAIR ID WORKS) you might be troubleshooting for 2 hours or so before your realize what's going on but, KNOWING HOW IT WORKS you put your tone on and your meter (without you testing exact pair ID) starts to change tone WELL..... YOU KNOW THIS MEANS YOU HAVE A SHORT CIRCUIT and that would take you all of 15 seconds to figure out See the difference between understanding your tools and then knowing how to apply them ASK AWAY MATE, GIVE ME ANY SCENARIO , I'M HAPPY TO HELP

    So I bought this and now I need to get a rj11 adapter to rj45 to trace what port it is on panel or cut the wire to trace it correct?

    • @pcrb141
      @pcrb141 3 года назад

      If you have an RJ-11 jack on your tone generator, and you want to trace tone with it, you are limited to the 4 wires that the RJ-11 has. If you want to test each wire on a cable, you can punch down a keystone jack as shown here ruclips.net/video/Cw9-WdpseQE/видео.html and do not cut off the excess wire hanging out of the jack. A mere 1ft down that cable the keystone jack is on, you will need to crimp an RJ-45 so you can plug your test patch cable into the jack you're testing. You will need that to attach a positive or negative lead of the tone generator, and attach the other lead to the other end of the cable. This do-able if you can get both ends of the cable in front of you. If you're troubleshooting an ethernet cable that is already installed and the ends are far from each other, you should get a tone generator with an RJ-45. It can send tone tone all 8 wires at once, and you can walk to the other end of the cable to check with the probe. A LAN tester is better to find out which wire has the problem but the tone generator can help you find where the break in the wire is.

      Mac Os Genius Huh ? LOL Mate.... to be straight, you don't sound like a genius also.. if you're saying what you're saying then chances are you shouldn't be using a tone generator LET ME GIVE YOU SOME MORE USEFUL ADVICE as one who has trained many many technicians Most techs are like zombies you hand them a piece of kit (FYI, KIT is a Piece of TEST EQUIPMENT in electronic terms) and you say ... Use it like this and they say............. OK and that's about all you're gonna get from them THIS IS A FUCKING POINTLESS EXISTENCE What is more productive to do is this... You get a piece of kit , Like the one in the video You then ask yourself WHAT DOES THIS DO you then ask yourself IN HOW MANY SITUATIONS CAN I APPLY THIS so... What does it do You might sound, it produces a noise NO..... GET MORE SPECIFIC More like this.... It uses a Micro controller to send voltage and frequency down a conductor and you identify the signal by using the inductor in the tip of the wand NOW THAT YOU HAVE THAT KNOWLEDGE You can do more constructive things like this You first need to test your Tone Generator and determine how much voltage it sends down a line, Let's say it's 5V for arguments sake well.... You then know if you have an energised circuit which has 12V YOU WON'T GET A TONE it doesn't mean the wire is faulty it means the voltage on the line killed the voltage from the Toner but if the voltage was 2V would you still get something SEE HOW THIS IS MORE USEFUL ? Next point, to address your question the standard thing to do is this Say you have a connector that has 4 Pins like this ------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------ ----------------------------------------------------------- well... the standard answer is you can only use the same number of pins on the other end .................OR CAN YOU MY ADVISE IS FOR YOU TO CONDUCT A FEW EXPERIMENTS DO THE FOLLOWING experiment 1 - Get 2 patch panels (or you can use wall sockets if you like) Punch 8 wires down on one end and 8 on the other end on 1 end put in your tone generator on the other end connect an ethernet cable that has been cut in half with the wires exposed TEST TO SEE IF YOUR SIGNAL IS COMING ON ALL WIRES OR ONLY 2 You will likely find it's only 2 Experiment 2 Research why this is so and why all 8 pins are not used for the tone Experiment 3, Learn what happens when you have the toner connected and on the other end YOU TOUCH THE WIRES TOGETHER Experiment 4, Theorize how many ways you could apply this knowledge and how many practical situations you could use this in Perhaps it would be a good idea for you to also purchase a cheap oscilloscope to understand what's going on Because seriously if you are asking the question you are asking it really means that you have little to no ability to adapt to situations or modify things to achieve the result you want start with those 4 experiments and see how you go and get back to me if you need more help the lesson for today is WHEN YOU BUY SOMETHING NEW.............. PLAY WITH IT, LEARN WHAT IT DOES don't watch you tube, Play with it , pull it apart, Understand it and don't just use it for it's intended purpose LIKE A FUCKING SHEEP LEARN WHAT IT CAN DO , LEARN HOW ELSE YOU CAN APPLY IT THINK OUTSIDE OF THE BOX this is what will make you a good technician and an expert Until that time comes... change your name to TELECOMMUNICATIONS STUDENT
